Wednesday, July 10 at 5 pm I will start another AKC STAR puppy class. I have 3 dogs registered for the class already. Class limit is 5.

The class runs 6 weeks and the puppies learn sit, down come, emergency recall, walk on a leash, stay, go to place/kennel, and to allow handling for exam, and how to sit for petting.

Classes are held in Hoover.

$200 for the class, and we will test for AKC STAR Puppy, CGC, and Trick Dog Novice at graduation.

Gearing up for a brand new group Puppy Class starting July 10 at 5 pm.

We cover all the good puppy manners and socialization puppies need to be your lifelong family member. We will test for the AKC STAR puppy and CGC at the end of 6 weeks.

Birmingham area folks, I will begin a Intro to Scent Work class on Mondays at 5 pm beginning June 10.

This is a fast track class and concentrates on preparing the teams for AKC Scent Work.

Class runs for 6 weeks and is $200.
(We will not have class on June 17 since I will be judging in Perry, GA at the Dalmatian Club.)

The next Hattiesburg, MS Scent Work clinics are scheduled for the evening of June 28, then all day June 29, and 30th.

I know there are some new dogs that handlers want to get started, and then many of the regular attendees want to come back to take the next step with their dogs.

The seminars include:

Friday night at 6:30 pm Let's Get Sniffing! This is a great introduction for your dogs to start their journey into Scent Work!

Saturday AM
Call It Already! Knowing when to call Finish in a search. This is designed for those working at the Excellent, Master, and Detective levels. Dogs and handlers will work on clearing searches, develop a plan for getting out of a search before talking your dog into giving a false alert.

Saturday PM
Problem solving Sniff N Go! This is a great way to work through your trial issues. We will run Detective, Master, Excellent, Advanced, and Novice in that order. (Changes to the Sniff N Go might need to be made based on the weather.)

Sunday AM
More Odor -working dogs on Anise, Clove, and Cypress. This is for dogs who are on Birch, and are ready to add in the next levels of odor. We will work Novice, Advanced, and Excellent level hides in this session (including all 4 AKC Odor elements.)

Sunday PM
30 minute Private Coaching sessions -we can work on your issues you have in training or trialing.

Seminars will be $75 each session.
Sniff N Go will be $35 per level entered (all 4 elements included: interior, exteriors, containers, and buried.)

New classes are forming! Jump in and let's get sniffing!

All Classes are 6 weeks in length and are $200/dog. Multiple dog/class discounts are available. Classes are based out of Hoover/Alabaster and surrounding areas.

Saturdays:
10:00 am May 11th - Little Sniffers! This is an introduction to Nose Work class for puppies from 8 weeks to 20 weeks.
11:30 am May 11 am Beginning Nose Work - this class we will introduce your dogs to searching.

Mondays
7:00 pm May 13 Intro to Odor - this class is designed for dogs who have either taken Intro to Nose Work, or has enough searching skills/equivalent from another trainer. We will work on Birch, Anise, and Clove.

Wednesdays
7:00 pm May 15 Scent Detection Sport Trial Prep - this class will prepare the handler and dog to compete in either NACSW Nose Work, AKC Scent Work, or other scent detection sport venues.

Get your entries in for the River Region Kennel Club UKC show before February 6th! (Please do not wait to the last minute. Your show secretary will appreciate it!)

Remember: Conformation, Junior Showmanshop. Obedience, and Rally entries are Pre-entry only. No Day of Show entries!

Precision Coursing and Puppy Match will allow Day of Show entries.

If you enter the same dog in all 4 shows or trials, the rate is $90, plus PayPal fee. Individual shows are $30 each plus PayPal fees.

There will be 1 puppy match per day.

A UKC Nose Work seminar presented by Karen Shivers on Friday will detail how to start dogs, and the differences between UKC and other venues.

For January, if I could offer drop in Advanced Nose Work classes on Thursdays in the Birmingham/Shelby County area would anyone be interested or able? I'm thinking daytime and evening options.

Your dog would need to be on odor, or at the pairing stage.

Classes would be in various locations each week. You would pay per class.

Don't worry if your dog hasn't done Nose Work in a while. They will remember!

Fullmoon Teddy Roosevelt Terriers and Labs (aka Kaye Stevenson) will be hosting a NACSW Odor Recognition Test on Sunday, November 26, in Millbrook, AL. Two runs on each odor, so you can enter two dogs!

I am acting as Trial Secretary for the ORT as well as the NW1, NW2, L1iI and am having surgery on my wrist/hand today. Please be patient as communication may be off for a day or two. 🙂

Kaye is still accepting entries for the NW1, NW2, and L1I trials in Marbury, AL on November 18 and 19.

There is a wait list for the NW1 and NW2, but we are expecting a lot of movement on the lists due to results from upcoming trials in other states between now and trial weekend.

There is no wait list for the L1I!!

Also, Kaye is hosting an ORT November 26. Entries open officially on October 25. There will be 2 runs of each odor, so you have a chance to get two dogs qualified to start their NACSW careers! We will allow dogs to run FEO if there is room. (Think container practice in a real world environment.)

It's not quite Friday the 13th, so it is still your lucky day!
The Marbury, AL NACSW trials did not fill! We still have plenty of space in the half day NW1, L1I, and even a few spaces in the NW2. The entries are going to be left open, so you can still enter!
If you didn't get your entries in yesterday before the draw closed, you can still submit entries and have a good chance of getting in!
Go to the registration page and click on the appropriate links to get your entries in! I'll be working to send out the confirmation emails after work today and tomorrow.

Ready to get Sniffing?

I am coming to Hattiesburg, MS Veteran's Day weekend. We will start off with a seminar to introduce you and your dog to the sport of Scent Work. The seminar will cover getting started and continuing on to the next level, Advanced. All four elements will be covered.

Sunday is for Excellent, Master, and Detective level dogs. The mock trial with coaching will help you to get ready for upcoming trials, work on problem areas you may have, and add a few new skills to your Scent Work toolbox.

Hello everyone!!

I know, it's been a long time.

I'm tossing this out there to see how many people are interested in a Nose Work/Scent Work class?

Classes will be at various locations around the greater Birmingham area. I'm thinking a beginner class for brand new dogs and an advanced class for dogs who are on odor.

Classes would run 4 weeks and would begin in November. What days work for you? What time would be good?

We still need volunteers for the NW1 and NW2 held October 29th and 30th at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, AL!

We will have a gift basket in the volunteer raffle each day. Lots of amazing food, and two great judges you will get to work with through the day.

No tricks, just treats! Volunteers are the life of Nose Work trial!

No prior experience needed! No need to have trained a dog in the sport. We have a fantastic on the job training program!
