Central Indiana Foster Cats Retired cat rescue that was focused on the Town of Speedway, IN, Racing Capitol of the World. We still have cats available for adoption.

Contact us for an application to adopt one of our furry felines! Our rescue only takes kittens on a case by case basis as space allows. We do not have space for adult cats UNLESS THE CAT WAS PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED FROM US. (We will ALWAYS take our cats back.) Felines in our care are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for FIV/FeLV and microchipped.

After a complete renovation and cleaning of the cages at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield (14720 Greyhound Plaza [US 31N]), all 4 of our bonded pairs are at the store available for adoption. You can visit them during store business hours and complete an application on site. Please remember that all of our bonded pairs are SHY and TIMID (except for Pawdrey and maybe Amewlia). No dogs and no children for these pairs.

We would love to see them adopted for the holidays to the perfect forever homes!

Last week at PetSmart, Pawdrey was showing signs of respiratory distress. We pulled the girls from PetSmart and finally made it to Banfield on Tuesday. Pawdrey and Amewlia received Convenia (antibiotic) shots for bronchitis. They are currently on cage rest at home and doing well. Like little kids, they are mad that they are confined when all they want to do is play.

The girls' illness left us with a substantial veterinary charge that depleted most of our bank account. In addition, we have six cats getting their vaccines updated within the next 3 weeks. So we have a fundraiser! Use this link:

https://www.kitnipbox.com/subscribe?coupon=CentralINFosterCats

KitNip Box is a fun themed package that arrives on your doorstep monthly with a treat and fun catnip toys for your cat. This picture is from the August box that our rescue cats received! Receiving new toys every month is especially great for our chewers and for our cats that like to make tea with their toys (water dish casualties).

So order your KitNip Box subscription today and help our rescue keep our cats in good health while they wait for their forever homes!

We are still here! We aren't taking in any new cats or kittens this year, but we still have several cats available for adoption. (I have been busy the past 2 months taking a college course, so my brain was overloaded. I got an A!)

Our cats needs adopters that aren't looking for the playful feline that loves your kids and your dog. We are looking for the adopters with quieter households (no dogs, no children) and lots of patience to give these cats time to bond to you. Except for Ghost, all are bonded pairs.

Amewlia & Pawdrey are still at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield. The girls have become very social in their time at the store. They don't like to be picked up (though we have to pick them up every day to clean their cage), but they love toys, attention and WET FOOD. The canned pate will be the key to their hearts. You can visit them at the store during store business hours. Applications are available at the store.

Pawtrick & Purrcy are an odd pair of young adult brothers as far as personalities. Purrcy is a fluffy love bug who wants your attention and to be in your business. Pawtrick would prefer a cat tree where he can look out the window, then he'll let you pet him there.

Rosetta & Clark are our senior love bugs who need a quiet place to call their own. They were adopted, but due to divorce, they were returned. They are now 10+ year old seniors who need a home they will never need to leave. They do not adjust to change quickly. Rosetta still hisses at me, even though she loves me. She just never learned that hissing is not a love language. Clark loves to be pet, but sometimes has a spot he doesn't like.

Azalea & Larkspur are young adults who need a special home. Their ideal home would have a very friendly cat to show them the ropes with the humans. Larkspur is very wary of human hands, but thanks to Purrcy's constant need for attention, Larkspur now asks to be pet daily. Azalea is sweet, and loves to be pet on her terms.

Ghost is our old black tomcat. He is a sweet boy, but he usually will hide because he is so insecure. He loves his daily can of shredded, fish-flavored food. He had heartworm but beat the odds. He is FIV+, but he has been a healthy, big boy who loves to be brushed with his comb.

If you are interested in any of our cats, please contact us at [email protected].

We will also be sharing our partnership with KitNip Box soon, so stay tuned!

We are not taking in any new cats this year as we continue to downsize. We still have 4 pairs of bonded cats, an FIV+ retired tomcat, and 3 unsocial girls who would do best in an enclosed barn.

We did have an adoption recently in that Jennipurr & Mewlius are now getting used to apartment life with their new dad! Congrats to this crazy pair!

First up for highlight is Amewlia & Pawdrey. These girls have been at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield since January waiting for the perfect forever home. They are sweet girls and the key to their hearts is canned food. They have socialized well while at PetSmart, chirping at some employees, and talking to us every night when we come in to provide their canned food dinner. They do not like being picked up, but they do love to have their backs scratched. They need a home with no dogs and no children under 12. They should be okay with other cats.

You can visit them at PetSmart during store business hours (M-Sat 9am to 9pm, Su 10am to 7pm) and complete an application at the store.

We are in desperate need of a very specific subset of adopters! No dogs, no children, lots of patience during the bonding process. We currently have 4 bonded pairs and one former tomcat in need of forever homes.

We forgot to post this big lug yesterday, but here is our former tomcat.

Ghost has already lived a long, hard life. He is now looking for a comfortable home where he can just be spoiled.

Ghost was a tom cat who was taken in by a nice couple that gave him shelter, food and care. He was diagnosed with FIV and heartworm. The couple contacted us when they knew Ghost would need further care and a good forever home. We worked with the vet team at IndyHumane who conducted radiographs, testing, neuter and eventually teeth cleaning and extraction. Ghost is now heartworm antigen negative, but still heartworm antibody positive.

Ghost is a big guy that is not the best at grooming himself. He will need someone who can give him regular brushing. He is shy, so we want to find him a quiet home with no dogs and no small children. He does fine with other cats.

Ghost is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested negative for FeLV. He is FIV positive. He is approximately 6 years old.

Adoption fee = $75

If you are interested in adopting Ghost, please email [email protected].

SENIOR ALERT!!!

Our final bonded pair is Rosetta Halftail and Clark. They are now 10 years old.

Clark is a large short-haired black neutered male who was born feral to an abandoned chocolate point Siamese mother (adopted from us and now known as Narcissa Malfoy). [Clark does NOT have blue eyes.] We never thought Clark would domesticate, but once he was neutered, he started to settle down. He isn't a cuddler and he doesn't like kisses, but he LOVES to be pet. He is BONDED with Rosetta Halftail and we will only adopt them TOGETHER.

Rosetta Halftail is a medium-haired torbie (brown tabby with orange spots) spayed female that was born to a feral Manx mother and lived outside for her first 10-12 weeks of life. She was the first of her siblings to be trapped, but also the nicest. She is a little confused with her signals - when you bring her food, she will hiss at you yet she eagerly dives in to eat. If you pick her up and love on her, she will easily purr but she doesn't like to be held for long. However, she does love to be pet and has "elevator butt" (scratch the back and the butt goes up). She does indeed have a little more than half a tail, which is where she got her last name. Fluffy and adorable, we can't wait to find her the perfect forever home. She is BONDED with Clark and we will only adopt them TOGETHER.

This pair is currently in our foster care, so if you are interested in them, please email us at [email protected].

We will post our final adoptable tomorrow. Stay tuned!

We are in desperate need of a very specific subset of adopters! No dogs, no children, lots of patience during the bonding process. We currently have 4 bonded pairs and one former tomcat in need of forever homes.

The third pair we will highlight is Azalea & Larkspur. These are not “cuddlers”. These are young adults that came to us from Indy Neighborhood Cats. They were born feral and we have been working on socialization for months. They do NOT like to be picked up, and barely allow us to pet them. But they LOVE playtime with tunnels and cat trees. ADOPTER WILL NEED TO CONTINUE SOCIALIZATION.

Azalea is a sweet girl who will only let you pet her on her terms.

Larkspur will not let you move him, pick him up, or do anything to him, except pet him sometimes. He was the spiciest kitten when he came to us and hasn't changed much. He does not trust human hands. We muzzle him when we need to trim his claws. He needs a covered litter box with no door or he will overshoot the sides of the litter box. They will come with their litter box.

This pair is currently in our foster care, so if you are interested in them, please email us at [email protected].

We will post our other adoptables throughout the week. Stay tuned!

We are in desperate need of a very specific subset of adopters! No dogs, no children, lots of patience during the bonding process. We currently have 4 bonded pairs and one former tomcat in need of forever homes.

The second pair we will highlight is Mewlius & Jennipurr. This brother and sister pair are also coming up on their first birthday. They are a rambunctious pair who love to explore. Toys and a cat tree with a window view are a must with this pair. They start shy, but once they bond, they will love to be up in your business getting attention.

Mewlius gets small rodent ulcers in his mouth. They go away within 2 weeks. We suspect a food allergy and currently have him and his sister on Core Wellness with no fish ingredients.

This pair is currently in our foster care, so if you are interested in them, please email us at [email protected].

We will post our other adoptables throughout the week. Stay tuned!

The first pair we will highlight is Amewlia & Pawdrey. These girls are sisters coming up soon on their first birthday. They are sweet girls, who will actually talk to you once they have bonded with you. They are also wet food addicts! We give them one 5.5oz can each day to share. They free feed dry food.

Amewlia will drool when she gets really happy during petting time, then choke on her own spit. Cats are quirky!

These girls are currently at PetSmart Westfield/Carmel (14720 US 31 N). Please give them a visit and fill out an application during store hours.

We will post our other adoptables throughout the week. Stay tuned!

ADOPTED

Currently available at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield (14720 US 31N). Applications are available at the store.

Caterina & Frederico were “Free Kittens” from Craigslist Indianapolis. They were adopted out summer 2022 to a young family. Unfortunately, Frederico couldn't handle the stress of living with 4 children under age 6. He began house-soiling from stress. The family decided that he needed a less stressful forever home.

BONDED PAIR. WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.

Caterina is a friendly and curious lady who wants attention. She loves to be pet, not so fond of being picked up. She would love a cat tree where she can watch everything outside.

Frederico is a high-stress male cat. He prefers a quiet environment where he can just play and be with his sister. He wants to be with his human constantly. He loves attention.

These cats have not been around dogs and did not do well with small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They should do fine with other cats.

Caterina & Frederico are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Date of birth is April 29, 2022.

We've been slow to announce adoptions, because we wanted to make sure all the cats settled in to their new homes, but we have had several adoption in the past 6 weeks!

Denali and Odina were adopted to a young man who wanted a cat in his home. They have been slow to come around, and Odina has actually been coming out more than her brother! We know Denali will show his friendly side soon.

Savannah was adopted to a home with another cat, and is settling in. The resident cat is intimidated by her, but hopefully will be best friends soon.

Boomi and Fang were adopted to a young couple who were very excited to have the playful, sweet black pair of kitties.

Gracie was adopted today to a wonderful couple that looks forward to spoiling her.

We currently have Caterina and Frederico at PetSmart. They are sweet young adult cats who would prefer a quiet household, or at least one without multiple small children. Frederico is a high stress dude.

We hope to have our 6 mostly-grown kittens at PetSmart next. We also have our big old tomcat Ghost available, but he won't be going to the store anytime soon as he is shy.

Happy Halloween, and keep supporting animal rescues!

A typical few days of voice mail messages:

"Hello, my name is KK and I am seeking shelter for a cat and I really need help or some suggestions. Could you please give me a call back at area code... Thank you so much."

"You know, girl, the state of Indiana's getting pretty bad about animals. I've got 5 kittens and I don't want nothing to happen to 'em and I've been trying to find 'em a home. It seem like everybody here in the state of Indiana, nobody cares anymore. It's like your recording you got on there now, you don't take stray animals anymore. Called the police department and that animal control over there, they don't do nothing. But who knows from over there. So, you know, it's sorta sad the way that the world's turned out to be, I guess, to animals. But, anyway, if it's somebody there, I hope I haven't said nothing wrong or done nothing wrong. But if someone there would give me a call, maybe you might be able help me, I don't know. My name is JT and my phone number is... Thank you."

"Hi, my name is RG... And I am currently just looking for a temporarily housing for my cat. I was, I just lost my apartment and I'm staying with someone who is allergic to cats so I can't keep my cat at their place. So I'm looking to just keep her temporarily while I work on getting my new place which should be pretty soon. Um, if you can call me back at... And maybe let me know where maybe I can get temporary housing for my pet I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you."

That second message was the most difficult. It's not that rescuers don't care, but where are we supposed to put more cats and kittens when every cage is full, our personal debt increases day to day (because rescues have NO money) and our mental health is constantly at risk? I am trying to get to a point where I can retire from cat rescue, and enjoy my time with my husband after a couple decades of raising kids and 12+ years of animal rescue. If I continue to just take on more and more animals, he will have an empty mental husk of a wife.

Please be kind to animal rescuers, especially in what you say. We do what we can with what we have, but we are only simple humans.

Instead of cats being adopted out, we have more cats returning. We currently have 11 adult cats. 3 are best suited to be barn cats. Another is temperamental and probably with us for life now that she is 10+ years old.

We have an old black tom cat named Ghost, about 6 years old, who is FIV+ and heartworm antibody positive. He has beaten some of the heartworm disease in that he is antigen negative now. He is a sweet boy who needs a quiet home. He is fine with other cats, but won't do well with dogs or children.

We have a sweet young black and white adult female named Gracie (formerly Janine) who was returned to us due to health problems with her adopter. She would prefer to be an only cat that gets lots of attention in an adult only home.

We have a young dilute tortoiseshell adult female, Savannah, that decided she's done with other cats after a short, unsuccessful stint at motherhood. She is available to meet at PetSmart in Carmel/Westfield. (14720 US 31 N.) She would love to be an only spoiled cat in a quiet household.

We have a brother/sister pair of cats returning due to stress in the household and peeing outside of the litter box. We need to find a quieter, no children, no dog home for them.

We have a pair of one year old orange tabbies at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield that need a quiet, patient home with no dogs nor children. Denali is long-haired, his sister Odina is short-haired.

We have a pair of one year old long-haired brown tabbies that need an experienced adopter. Azalea, the female, loves to be pet, but does not like to be picked up. Larkspur, the male, does not like to be handled at all and must be muzzled, but will let you pet him when he trusts you.

We have a pair of black kittens, about 6 months old, that are waiting for space at PetSmart. They are a crazy, playful brother and sister named Fang and Boomi.

We have 6 kittens that are awaiting FeLV testing, as 3 were faint positive at the time of spay/neuter. We cannot retest until they are 6 months old to get a more accurate result. They are up for retesting in early October. They are from a feral colony where they were socialized from birth, but can still be shy with strangers.

We are closed to all intake (except cats previously adopted from us) and are bursting at the seams. We have listed our available cats on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet. Please consider sharing our cats to help us find them the best forever home!

ADOPTED

Happy 1st Birthday to our orange siblings. For their birthday present, they would love an adopter.

Denali and Odina are young adults that came to us from Indy Neighborhood Cats as 4 month old kittens. They were born feral and we have been working on socialization for months. They do NOT like to be picked up (but we pick them up daily to clean their cage), and, thanks to PetSmart employees, love to be pet. They also LOVE playtime with tunnels and cat trees.

BONDED PAIR. WILL ONLY BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.

Denali is a long haired orange tabby. He loves to have his back scratched and his “elevator butt” always gives away that he is enjoying it. He does NOT like to be picked up. He has been the most social of his siblings. Treats are the key to his heart. He would benefit from regular grooming, especially in the armpits.

Odina is a short haired orange tabby. She has been the most difficult of her siblings for us to socialize, but PetSmart employees brought out her social side. She will hiss occasionally when she is startled, but let us pet her - including her stomach! Her previous foster mom, who had her for a week, says Odina is her favorite. Odina would benefit from a soft brushing regularly to cut down on shedding.

These cats have not been around dogs or small children. We insist on a cat-only household with children over 12. They should do fine with other cats.

Denali & Odina are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV and are microchipped. Approximate date of birth is September 3, 2022.

Adoption fee = $75 per cat ($150 total)

ADOPTED

Beautiful Savannah is currently at PetSmart Carmel/Westfield (14720 N US31, Carmel) waiting for her forever home. She is a sweet, petite little cat who is just waiting for a home of her own.

Savannah is a human-friendly cat who has tortie-tude. (Her color is dilute tortoiseshell.) She is 1-2 years old. She loves attention, but can also not want to be pet or picked up sometimes. We recommend grooming with a soft brush to help her shedding. Savannah needs to be an ONLY pet. We recommend no small children.

Savannah is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Her bed was a gift from her original shelter and goes with her.

Applications are available at the store. Store business hours are Monday to Saturday 9am-9pm, Sunday 10am - 7pm.
