The purpose of this page is to promote the animals that are at a higher risk of euthanasia at Daviess County Animal Control in Owensboro, KY.
This is a volunteer-run page that strives to promote the urgent animals at Daviess County Animal Control so that they may get a second chance at finding a forever home. The volunteers who manage the page are passionate about helping find homes for Owensboro's homeless animals and do their best to update this page in their spare time. No official DCAC staff members are responsible for this page. Da
viess County Animal Control takes in all of the stray and unwanted animals from Daviess. This is the only open door intake facility in the city and intake is around the clock all year long. The shelter takes in approximately 3000 animals a year. The staff and volunteers work hard to place all adoptable animals into rescues, adoptive homes, or foster care, but unfortunately there is not enough space. These animals need YOU to get them into loving homes and keep them alive! The purpose of this page is to specifically promote the animals that are at a higher risk of euthanasia at the shelter. The page administrator(s) of this page reserve the right to delete any comments posted to this page. Remember, this page is to help animals. Any comments posted that may directly or indirectly serve contrary to that goal may be removed. It can take up to 7 business days for the application to be processed and approved. We will notify you once the process is complete, by phone or email. Incomplete applications will delay the process and may not be processed. Submission of the adoption application is not a guarantee that the animal you are applying for will be available to you. We do not hold dogs during the application process; the animal could be adopted by a previously approved adopter or pulled by a rescue group. The reason why we do not hold animals during the adoption process is this: to help keep our euthanasia rates down. The Daviess County Animal Shelter does not participate in the Managed Intake movement; we are still an open door facility. We are required to take in ANY animal (from a Daviess County resident), regardless of how full the shelter may be or the health or temperament of the animal being surrendered. When an animal has the opportunity to be adopted or go to rescue, we have to do so to keep kennel space available. We take in dozens of animals nearly each and every day. (Sometimes A LOT more, sometimes less.) We believe it is in the best interest of all animals to keep an open door mentality - unwanted animals need an immediate place of shelter and protection, and the Daviess County Animal Care & Control is dedicated to providing such a life saving service for the furry & feathered companions of our county.

UPDATE!! GOAL MET. 💜💜THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. They left for rescue this morning.
🙏Hopscotch(brown/white) and Fluff(black/white) both have broken legs😫😫
Kentucky Pets Alive rescue is willing to take them but we need to help with medical bills to treat them.
We need to raise $600 to cover initial xrays, hospitalization and care. This is not even close to what their care will cost but it's going to help.
All rescues are struggling with overwhelming numbers of animals coming into their care.
They can't take them if we can't raise the donations. They have taken so many medical cases from our shelter lately and they never say no but these times are coming to an end.
Our shelter kitties are very fortunate to have this rescue on their side. Without them these young babies would be euthanized. 😫

😪Kentucky Pets Alive desperately needs donations to help with medical expenses for our shelter cats that have endured traumatic injuries and illness.
KPA never says no to our pleas....They take them at a moments notice otherwise these cats would have been euthanized on intake😪
Here are a few recent cats they have taken recently.
Luther, who had been shot in the face.
Josie, who has stomatitis and needed all of he r teeth removed.
Falkor, who had 3 broken legs.
Mike Wazoski, who needed an eye removed
Dobby, who had an ear infection which caused a head tilt
Kirk, who had a deformed leg that needed to be amputated

Daviess County Animal Care & Control is seeking a Veterinary Technician.
This position is responsible for the daily care of animals in the Shelter and the Spay & Neuter Clinic.
The successful candidate will assist with surgical procedures and daily operational duties, as needed.
This job does require working rotating weekends to facilitate adoptions and caring for animals at the Shelter. The starting rate is $19.54 per hour.

😳How is this boy still here?? Damon is a short chunky guy who is ready for a forever home! This boy is a bulldog/pittie possibly. He is a stout 40-45 pounds. He is a low rider😍
Damon has been at the shelter since May 9th. He was found running loose with no owner and no one ever contacted the shelter about reclaiming. He was thin, dirty and confused. He has blossomed into this lovable playful hunk💯
He does well with most dogs so proper introductions with any dogs are recommended.
He LOVES people. People are his thing.😘
He is heartworm positive but the shelter is treating him and will continue treatment at no cost to the adopter.
His adoption fee has been sponsored. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

😪Peanut has clearly been starved for quite sometime. These are her intake pictures. She has been at the shelter 7 days and is ready for a forever home. She was found wandering with no owner. She is a young girl around 8-10 months old. She has been great with dogs, cats and LOVES people despite the cruelty she has endured.
She will be spayed, microchipped, vaccinated ans heartworm tested.
Her adoption fee has been sponsored by her finders.

Happy Sunday Animal Lovers! Great news! Hulk is doing wonderful in foster care, but he is still on the search for his FURever family! He does great with the other 3 dogs in the home, does well in his crate, and has had no accidents in the house! He loves couches and car rides! He came in as a stray, guessed at 3 years old, American Pit Bull!
I can’t post videos and pictures together, so I am posting pics in the comments because this Freedom Ride video will fill your heart with joy!
