"D.J." Update!: Just a quick bit of information on how well D.J. is doing here at HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary! He is one amazing little guy and he is doing awesome! D.J. saw Dr. Frederick at Flag City Mobile Veterinary Clinic yesterday for his Neuter Surgery. He is recovering well and will be taking it easy for a bit until he is fully healed. D.J. is estimated to be 2 years old, he tested negative for HW and Lyme, he is now neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and has had no accidents in his crate or in the home! We are so proud of him! He is a very good boy and will be ready to find his Forever Home very soon! D.J. is a sweet, kind hearted, gentle and fun loving little guy! He loves the companionship of the other Dogs and of course he loves belly rubs and being around people and getting lots of love and attention! D.J. seems to be a fairly quiet Beagle too and he has been so well behaved, we just can't say enough about how good of a boy he is! His hair coat is still quite sparce from being infested with fleas and his lack of care, prior to coming to the Rescue but it should all grow back and fill in as he is continuing to improve every day! We are grateful to everyone that Donated towards D.J.'s Vetting costs and we thank each and every one of you for your Support for D.J.! Keep watching for more updates soon! And remember to go to our website and get an Adoption Application filled out and submitted for D.J.! He is going to be a wonderful addition to one very lucky family!

In Loving Memory of "Mable". Our hearts are heavy and we are deeply saddened to share that our Sweet "Mable" has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Mable came to live with us at HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary back in September of 2020 after we pulled her from the euthanasia list at Franklin County Dog Shelter. While at the shelter, she had been diagnosed with multiple mast cell tumors. Her prognosis at the time was "guarded". Well, she proved everyone wrong and lived a very happy life with us for the past four years! Mable was a gentle soul with a strong will and just a bit of an attitude! She always let the other Dogs know immediately who the queen bee was and if she liked them or not. She would pick her Dog friends and that was the way it was! So Mable had her small group of Dog friends and she enjoyed their companionship. She always had a kind and gentle demeanor with people and she loved everyone she met. Mable was a delight to be around, was easy going and just a lovely girl! We will miss her dearly and we are so happy to have had her as part of our lives for the past four years. Run free our Sweet Mable. We love you, we will miss you and we will never forget you! May you have eternal peace, happiness and full restoration of health. God rest your soul Mable. 💔🙏🌈🐾

We are extremely saddened and our hearts are heavy as we had to say goodbye to one of our Senior Sanctuary Dogs. Our lovely boy Bailey "Bucksnort" crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. We had pulled Bucksnort from the euthanasia list at FCDS back in October of 2023. Although he was not with us for very long, those eight months we had with Bucksnort were and will always be cherished. If any Dog could be considered perfect, it was definitely true of our sweet Bucksnort. He was an absolute gem. He was loving, gentle and easy going, he was quiet as a church mouse, he had a delightful personality and loved every human and every Dog he ever met. Bucksnort had been diagnosed with kidney disease as well as being completely deaf. Being deaf was no issue for Bucksnort. He was very attentive to where we were and would come to us when we used hand signals as well as the fact that he just always wanted to be near us. Unfortunately, Bucksnort's kidney disease progressed to kidney failure. We are very grateful to Dr. Frederick at Flag City Mobile Veterinary Clinic for the loving care she provided Bucksnort over the last eight months and for being there for him, and for us, for his passing. Run free Bucksnort. We pray that you have eternal peace, happiness and full restoration of health. We were honored to have you here and we will love you forever. 💔🌈🐾

"RUDY" UPDATE! Rudy saw our Veterinarian on Wednesday and had a multitude of things done! He had a complete examination, he was neutered, he received his vaccinations, he was microchipped, had blood drawn for testing, got his toenails trimmed and had a dental cleaning and polishing! Dr. Frederick estimates that Rudy is 5 to 6 years old. His bloodwork all came back within normal limits and he is recuperating from his neuter surgery and is doing very well! Rudy's teeth all looked really good and no teeth needed to be extracted! Since testing positive for Lyme and having an unknown injury to his paw/foot, while he was at the dog pound, Rudy was started on a month long round of Doxycycline as well as pain meds. Upon his initial arrival to HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary, we gave Rudy a medicated bath and pulled three live ticks off of him and removed numerous sharp briars that were embedded in his skin. As you may remember from our first post about Rudy, he had an unknown injury to his paw/foot and was not weight bearing upon arrival to the pound. Within the first few days of being here at the Rescue, he had already started putting weight on the foot/paw and showed no signs of pain or discomfort. Upon our initial check of him, we did not locate any source of his discomfort or any reason for his lamemess. During his exam with Dr. Frederick however, she found an area between his toes that was most likely the area of injury and initial cause of his pain and lameness. We believe it was most likely a briar that had been stuck in his foot between his toes, and over time or because of him licking and chewing at it, the briar had finally worked its way out, thankfully. Rudy is a very sweet, happy and playful boy! He seems to love everyone he meets and is very friendly around the other Dogs! Once Rudy has completely healed from his neuter and we have worked with him a bit on basic manners and house training, he will be coming Available for Adoption! Thank you to those that Donated towards Rudy's initial Vetting costs and care. We appreciate you all so very much and we are grateful for your support! We could not do this without your help! We thank you and Rudy thanks you! - Loribeth Bethel Martin , Teresa Jo, Rob Pagura, Colleen Hawksworth , David Dauphinais and Stuart Snyder

Saturday Smiles! It's Freedom Ride Day for this guy! Please help us welcome "Rudy" to HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary! We pulled him from the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound today! Rudy was picked up running stray and no owner ever came for him. He has an unknown injury to his front paw/foot and has not been weight bearing since arrival to the pound. Although he is not weight bearing on the paw/foot, he does not seem to be in terrible pain. The pound staff started him on antibiotics and pain meds. He also tested positive for Lyme. We will continue with pain meds and he will be on a month long round of Doxycycline for the Lyme. Our Veterinarian will be seeing Rudy on Wednesday for xrays, exam, vaccinations, bloodwork, microchip and neuter. We ask that you please consider a tax deductible donation towards Rudy's Vetting costs and care. We are grateful for any donation made in any amount and we are very thankful for your support! We appreciate any contribution made to help us provide for Rudy's needs! We also want to say a very special Thank You to Aimee Gintz for helping with transport! We are so grateful to you for helping get Rudy to us! And a huge Thank You to Beth at Tuscarawas County Dog Pound for seeking Rescue for Rudy! We are very happy to be able to help him! We will post an update after he has seen our Veterinarian on Wednesday! Welcome Rudy!!

"TEDDY" - Post Surgery Day 1 Update: These pictures pretty much say it all! Judging from Teddy's expression in these photos, his overall demeanor and his s***ky attitude this morning, we feel that we definitely made the right decision to have Enucleation Surgery done. Teddy is doing amazing already since having the surgery yesterday! Of course, we have him on pain medications, he is wearing a cone and he is on restricted activity during his recovery but let me tell you, he is doing great! There is no swelling or discharge, he is not whimpering and wanting to rub his eye constantly and he is not showing any signs of discomfort, which he had been doing prior to his surgery. Being it is just the first day post surgery, we are elated at how well Teddy is doing and how well his surgery site looks! A HUGE THANK YOU to our amazing Veterinarian, Dr. Katie Frederick of Flag City Mobile Veterinary Clinic for her great skill and surgical expertise! And a Very Special THANK You to everyone that Donated towards Teddy's Surgery. We appreciate you ALL so very much! 💕💗🐾

Our Senior Saturday post is one that we wish we didn't have to post, but we could use your support and some prayers. "Teddy", one of our Senior Sanctuary Dogs, will be having Enucleation Surgery on Tuesday March 12th. Teddy has been with HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary since we pulled him from the euthanasia list at Franklin County Dog Shelter back in December of 2017. After arriving here at HRAS, we had Teddy seen by our Veterinarian. Teddy was diagnosed with both Diabetes Insipidus and Progressive Retinal Atrophy. Teddy was started on medication to control the Diabetes Insipidus and continues to take it daily and will, for the remainder of his life. As there is no treatment or medication for the PRA, Teddy's vision loss has slowly progressed over the years to almost complete blindness in one eye and total blindness in the other. Unfortunately now, with the continued progression of PRA, Teddy has developed cataracts ( "toxic cataracts") which leads to the painful complications of both glaucoma and lens luxation. We have been administering multiple prescription eye drops and pain meds for quite some time to help with the discomfort and control pain but have come to the conclusion that it would be best to have his eye surgically removed. Enucleation surgery will be performed to remove Teddy's eye and in doing so, relieve pressure, pain and the daily discomfort that he is having. The eye that is being removed is the one that he has no vision in. Teddy does very well navigating our home with very limited vision currently and we are quite sure that he will continue to do so after the surgery but without any pain or discomfort, once he has healed from the surgery. If you would like to help towards Teddy's enucleation surgery, please consider a tax deductible donation. And please, say an extra Prayer for Teddy. Thank you.

"GERALD" Update!! Gerald is settling in quite well here at HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary! He is getting accustomed to the daily routine, has happily met a few of the other Dogs here and he is doing fantastic! Gerald can be quite the little pistol! Getting a good photo is impossible because when he is not napping, he can be as fast as lightning and as busy as a bee! For an old guy (10+), he still has some s***k! And of course Gerald is an excellent napper too! Like most seniors, he can nap the day away with no problem! He curls up on a comfy bed and blankies and you don't hear a peep out of him for hours! He loves everyone, he very much enjoys getting ear rubs and will talk the whole time, he has a super sweet personality, a very good appetite and for the first few days or so, he was a leg raising little pistol! The good news is that with every passing day, he is getting the daily routine down and figuring out that outside is where we do our tinkles! Major business he has down pat and always does his poo outside, so there is that good news! Gerald saw our Vet last Friday for his exam, blood work, vaccines and microchip. He was a perfect gentleman for Dr. Frederick (Flag City Mobile Veterinary Clinic)! Gerald does have a heart murmur but his bloodwork results came back all within normal limits, so we have scheduled him for his Neuter and a Dental. As he had tested positive for Lyme, while at the Dog Pound, we have him on a month long round of Doxycycline. We are delighted to have Gerald here! We are happy to be able to give him a comfy home to enjoy his retirement and we are grateful to be able to give him all the love he deserves, the best care possible and providing all necessary Vetting. Please consider a tax deductible donation to help us cover Gerald's initial Vetting costs and his upcoming Neuter and Dental surgeries, scheduled for March 12. We would be so greatly appreciative of any donation and we thank you!

We figured there is no better way to help heal our hearts a bit, after losing our beloved Sanctuary Dog Whiskers, than by saving another senior in need! And so we did just that! Please help us Welcome "Gerald" to HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary! We pulled Gerald from the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound. He had been found running stray and no owner came to claim him. Sweet senior Gerald deserves to live a happy life during his retirement years and he will do just that! Gerald will enjoy the comforts of home, soft beds, a couch or chair if he prefers, securely fenced yards to play in, quality food and will have other Dogs for companionship. We will provide him all the love and attention he deserves as well as the best Veterinary care possible! Gerald will be seeing our Vet for an exam, bloodwork, vaccines and microchip and he will be neutered, pending his test results. He did test positive for Lyme while at the Dog Pound. We are treating him with a month long round of Doxycycline. Gerald is getting acquainted with the other Dogs and getting settled in, initially spending time in a playpen with a crate and soft blankets. Once he has adapted to the routine and we have done proper introductions with the other Dogs, he will be able to be loose in the home. So far Gerald is doing very well! Gerald seems to have a lovely personality and is just a sweet old boy! If you would like to help towards Geralds Veterinary costs and care, please consider a tax deductible donation. We would be so greatly appreciative! Thank you! Welcome Gerald!!! 💕💗🐾

In Loving Memory of our boy "Whiskers". Our hearts are broken and we are deeply saddened, as we had to say goodbye to one of our Senior Sanctuary Dogs, "Whiskers". We had pulled Whiskers back in 2018 from Wood County where he had been taken in as a very emaciated and neglected abuse case. Wood County Dog Shelter worked along with the Wood County Humane Society on Whiskers behalf and we were contacted to help. A special thanks to Pat Kjoller for contacting us and seeking our help, for Whiskers. We happily welcomed Whiskers to HOUND Rescue and Sanctuary on January 17, 2018. He quickly settled in to his comfy life here! He gained much needed weight, received the best possible Veterinary care and was showered daily with love and affection. Whiskers was a happy, sweet and easy going Hound with a lovely personality. He was a gentle old soul. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment we had with Whiskers He lived a very happy life here with us and it was our honor and pleasure to love him for the last six years. We will miss him terribly and we will love him forever. Thank you to David and Teresa Jo for being Whiskers other two favorite people and his loving extended family and thank you to Dr. Snell at Sycamore Animal Hospital for your care and compassion for Whiskers. Run free, our sweet boy, Whiskers. May you have eternal peace, happiness and full restoration of health. 💔🙏🐾🌈
