Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) / Pioneer Humane Society Non-Profit animal rescue operated mostly by volunteers located in Pendleton, Oregon. Contact us for information on low cost spay neuter!

We are open with a limited capacity and will expand as funding for more kennels and cat condos is identified. We take in the dogs from the Pendleton Pound, so space for owner surrenders is VERY limited right now.

UPDATE: Because of the weather, we have a few announcments to make. We will be closed to the public for the remainder of today, Friday, February 7th.

And we will be postponing our fence builds that were supposed to take place this weekend with Fences For Fido. We will keep you updated and let you know when those will be taking place in the near future. Stay safe!

This is Az, and he has escaped from a car at the Pendleton Convention Center. A humane trap has been set for him. Please do not interfere with the trap. If you see Az, he should be a friendly kitty who will come to you, but he seems to be scared and hiding. His family is very worried about him. Please let us know if there are any sightings of this sweet kitty around the Convention Center.

Please share to help Az come home safe

🚨🚨🚨February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month 🚨🚨🚨 Help us get ahead of Kitten Season by donating to our Spay/Neuter Fund NOW. During Kitten Season, we have 700 kittens in our shelter, and we are hoping if we can get as many cats spayed and neutered as possible now, we can reduce those numbers!

Our friends at the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon have done the math, and we've learned that if 1 unaltered cat and all her offspring have a litter of 4 each over a 10-year period, this results in a startling 1,398,101 cats! Please help us fix as many cats as possible by clicking "Donate" and sharing this post. Thank you!

It might be cold outside, but we have some heartwarming adoptions going on! Happy Adoption Day to Hercules and Polly! Polly was our longest resident kitty. She had been with us for 524 days ever since she came to us as a stray baby kitten. We are so happy for both of these pets and their fur-ever families 💗🐾

We greatly appreciate First Nations Veterinary and all the help they have given us. It is heartbreaking when we can't help every animal in need, and they have assisted with caring for and rehoming so many pets from the CTUIR. Please check them out and follow their page. No one in animal rescue works alone 💗🐾

Do you know this little dog? A kind citizen brought her in from the cold when he found her shivering at S Main and SE Kirk Avenue in Pendleton. He is bringing her to our shelter so we can scan her for a chip. Please let us know if you know this little dog, and please share to help her get home. Thank you!

Call for Volunteers SATURDAY *and* SUNDAY 💗 Fences For Fido is partnering with us to help us extend our fences to make them jump proof on Saturday, February 8th at 1 p.m. Let us know if you can help! Fence builders will need to be 18 and over, but younger volunteers can be given other tasks.

Sunday morning at 9:30, February 9th, Fences for Fido is partnering with First Nations Veterinary to build fences for a family on the CTUIR to help keep their dogs safe. We welcome volunteers 18 and over at that build 💗

Please share because many hands make light work 💗🐾

UPDATE 4:30 P.M. 2/3/2025 This kitty has had a long-lasting antibiotic injection and will be coming back to our shelter with an Elizabethan collar. He was hit by a car, but the worst injuries seem to be infection from his scratching his wounds. Will update tomorrow! Thank you, everyone!
