📣📣📣UPDATE📣📣📣 Big Guy has found his home!! Thank you to everyone who shared and made this happen! I will be gathering all the people who shared publicly that I can see and putting them in for the drawing of a kong or collar. I have a big week coming up but will announce when I’ll do the drawing soon. Thank you all again!! 📣📣📣📣
The hardest part about being a dog trainer is when you have to send them home. This time, I’m having even more difficulty as my big, goofy, sweet, thoughtful, stout, handsome client doesn’t have a home.
As he’s lovingly been dubbed, Big Guy showed up at Marvin and Peggy’s house several months ago. They spent weeks trying to find his owners, hoping he hadn’t been dumped. As it became apparent that no one was coming for BG, Peggy had him throughly vaccinated, fixed, and chipped. Their love for others (which is evident when you learn of their combined military and juvenile affairs history) wouldn’t allow them to give up on him even when it seemed like no one wanted to love Big Guy like they had come to. You see, Marvin, once a marine, always a marine, met his love, Peggy, when they were both working as Director of Programs for Juvenile Affairs and Assistant District Supervisor over Norman community services, respectively. Through a life full of serving our country (Marvin served in Vietnam) and helping others get on their feet, Marvin and Peggy are at a time in their life where, as much as they want to keep the sweet boy who showed up on their doorstep, life won’t let them.
Which brings me to what I want you, the reader, to know about why I’ve come to love Big Guy and how lucky you would be to have him in your home.
Peggy contacted me about keeping and working with him when the kennel he’d been staying at Hotel on the Hill, was unable to keep him for a couple weeks. It was immediately evident that they’d given him a good foundation to build on. As you can see from my pictures, BG and I have done everything from on leash to off leash, in the kennel to in the house, riding in the truck, and even introducing him to other dogs, my cats, sheep, and chickens. He’s a big boy who would thrive with someone who values structure and is firm but fair. He knows how to sit, heel, recall, and is very good about figuring out what you’re asking him to do. While he has a ton going for him, he does need someone who can handle his size. His ability to behave well will make him a dream to own, but he’s also still a younger dog that can get excited and needs someone stable that will be able to help him retain his self control.
As I wrap up my time with this amazing dog that I’m having a hard time not keeping (if you saw my family and crazy funny farm, you’d understand why another addition to the grocery bill is more than I can do right now), I’m reaching out to you help us find him his forever home.
I am doing two things to help get the word out and, Lord willing, find this boy a permanent place to lay his head. The first is this, even if you can’t welcome Big Guy into your home, please share this post. If you share it publicly, where I can see it, your name will be thrown into a drawing for your choice of one of my favorite products (either a Kong or an EzyDog martingale collar). If you are the lucky one who ends up getting to be Big Guy’s family, I’m offering a 30 min consultation to discuss ways to help you integrate him into your home. We will be vetting any inquiries due to his size and breed, but welcome you to give us a shout if you’re interested in this boy.
