Another amazing trap session with the missy trap thanks to Cinda Lansaw Lee who came out last minute at 5am to help me catch this missing boy.

Satchmo got out of his grandma’s yard on Christmas night. Unfamiliar with the area and ended up in Sharon Woods. With no sightings up until yesterday evening at 5p - I went out into the park at night. A quick few more sightings and hearing of his collar tags I was able to make a plan of action for his family. Thanks for the chat and help with this Natalie! (and for laughing so much with me when we jumped the fence and my butt/pants didn't survive the jump)

I called Cinda late last night and we arranged for her to come down. We set up the trap and bait and within minutes we got Satchmo!

His dad and doggy brother were so excited to see them. It was a happy reuinon!

And just like that two dogs, two crazy rescuers, and exactly one week apart we have made two families complete this holiday season!

I love what I do and the amazing people I meet doing this!

Wishing everyone a very wonderful holiday season! This year Good Paws with the help of several other wonderful neighbors made it possible for two long lost pets to make it home for the holidays!
For those of you whom have been following the journey of Buckeye (“Bucky”) the lost dog from Dayton - who made his way to Sharonville and West Chester (Cincinnati):
On Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:30pm- a long 5 months after Bucky went missing from his foster home, we were finally able to catch and bring him home!
With all the thanks to our neighbors in Indian Springs, Rolling Knolls, Bennington Drive, Cottingham Dr/Bath Ct, and Sprucewood Court who kept Bucky safe, VERY well fed, and helped keep spottings up to date without intervening. To all the families who let me park in their driveways, sneak around their yards and hide in bushes, set what felt like one million traps - and of course, Cinda of All Paws Matter, who was able to give our last ditch effort of bringing the most fabulous missy trap - THANK YOU!
I don’t think I have ever met such a wonderful bunch of neighbors in all my years of trapping lost/stray/community animals - and I am so lucky to have you in such close proximity to my own home and facility.
Bucky is now back with his original foster who will continue to work on his relationship with humans, his leash skills, and to minimize his flight risk. Bucky will be seeing a vet this coming week to do a full exam.
Bucky is looking for his forever home and if you are interested - should be ready for adoption in the coming weeks. Good Paws will be offering discounted training and boarding programs for Bucky if anyone in the neighborhoods who helped keep him safe adopts him. If you are interested, please contact us!
Good Paws spent close to 200 hours in the last 7 weeks working on bringing Bucky home. Good Paws is able to help lost dogs (or cats) like Bucky with the help of donations from wonderful neighbors like you! If you would like to donate to help offset some of these costs we have an amazon wishlist located https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2Y2YL8L6JLTHN?ref_=wl_share. We also accept donations via CashApp ($GoodPaws) and PayPal () that might cover costs such as vet bills, transportation, and/or other supplies not available on Amazon.
In addition to Buckey - wonderful neighbors helped to trap Trig (formally known as Socrates) a long time colony cat of Blue Ash who went missing in 2017. He was an extremely trap savvy cat and we were able to finally trap him on the same evening as Bucky. Trig now has his forever home where he will be loved for his remaining days. This cat is extremely close to my heart and I am so glad and grateful he has wonderful people caring for him in his last few years.
Again, Thank you everyone for working so hard to bring these two home! This is what community is all about! Happy Holidays and a wonderful, safe, New Year!

Juna is the puppy I helped rescue on the Fourth of July. After seeing the vet on Friday we learned Juna has a broken hip and will need surgery. The total cost of her initial visit, X-rays, surgery, spay, vaccines is $2,300. We have raised $1,500 so far.

Please help get the word out! All details are in the go fund me link including where to make direct donations to the vet clinic and the breakout of charges.

Today’s post is all about finding whom to hold accountable. Each slide offers a place to contact local representatives for the City of Cincinnati.
I have also included information. This has been an easy way for me to find my representatives and send letters to them on pressing issues where I want my voice heard.
Go to city council meetings. Make sure the topics discussed include our voices. Demand more from the ones who are supposed to represent you.
Don’t forget: Cincinnati police have a history of police brutality and currently are using excessive force during protests. Call Chief Isaac and demand he do better!
Sheriff Neil, who should have been voted out this year, raised the thin blue line flag during protests. Hold him accountable. He has a long history of racial tension and poor judgement calls.

Read the below caption. We need more than GESTURES. We are demanding ACTION. What is the Mayor of DC actually going to do to make sure things change?

・・・
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had a 66ft high Black Lives Matter painted on the steeet leading to the White House. She also renamed 16th Street NW, Black Lives Matter Plaza. While we applaud the symbolic gesture and how it will p**s Trump and his fellow racists off, we stand with when they call this “a performative distraction from real policy change.” , it’s time to and enact the demands of . In the coming week, I will continue to post information and resources regarding Black Lives Matter. This will include local, state, and national organizations fighting against Police Brutality, organizing of protests, bail funds, as well as local/state/national level government officials to call out and demand justice and change.
🐾
Let me make this clear: we are demanding JUSTICE not awareness. Be are demanding CHANGE not awareness.
🐾
I urge you to please donate supplies, time, or funds to any of the organizations. If you can’t do that, write a letter and call the officials! DO SOMETHING MORE!!

While we have fought battles against police brutality towards pets across many cities, today we are taking time to mention the police brutality seen throughout this country towards BIPOC.
🐾
Good Paws sees, hears, supports, fights for you!
🐾
No more! This must end! Donate, call, protest. Call your mayoral offices, city council members, governors. Do not let them sit complacent any longer. This is about change not awareness. Make them change! Vote!

Today, Indigo is demonstrating PLACE (with an implied stay) while being OFF LEASH. Why is place such an important command?
We use place as a means for impulse control, boundaries, and relaxation.
We live on a very busy main road and our front yard opens to Sharon Woods and a hiking trail. Here we see and hear people, squirrels, dogs, and birds all day. The last three are Indy’s weaknesses.
If you know me well, you know that I have not put much training into Indigo. But I have trained a recall and PLACE, allowing me to trust him off leash even in a heightened area of distraction and danger.
Indy currently is watching a squirrel try to cross the road but keeps running back to dodge cars. I know his instinct and desire is to go chase that squirrel. Training your dog impulse control commands like PLACE (stay, off, leave it) allows him to have freedom (being outside and off leash) without the worry he will dart off to fulfill his desire (of chasing) and get very hurt by running into a busy road.
Does your dog know the PLACE command?

Today, I saw two dogs escape their fence. Their home is on a very busy road. I quickly pulled over to assist. When I found out no owners were home, I had to improvise. I was not in my car so I had no equipment on me.
-
Both dogs did not have collars on. I needed to find a leash, luckily a neighbor was able to assist. I caught one dog with a make shift slip lead and tried to get the other dog to stick close by.

Both dogs were returned to their yard and I found some items to fix the several holes in the fence. This makes me send out a very important reminder:

When was the last time you checked your fence for escape routes? How about the last time you checked your dog’s collar or leash for areas of wear that can lead to a malfunction?

If you haven’t done so, please put it in your calendar as soon as possible! We recommend you should check your yard’s parameters at least once a month and your equipment quarterly.
Check doors and windows to make sure everything is secure. This is also a good time to ensure you have all pets microchipped (with your to date details). Make sure your dogs have up to date tags and registrations with your county.

The dog in this photo is not one of the dogs from today’s story. She is just a cute face. We would also like to thank Sharonville Police for the assistance!

✅ Say it louder for the people in the back!! ✅

This is actually the reason I decided to become a professional dog trainer; to help people with their frustrations with their pets and to help their pets understand what their people want from them.

Your dog's training in general obedience, which I consider an absolute necessity, WILL enable you to control him with the minimum rasping of your nerves and the maximum benefit to the dog's nerves, WILL enable you to direct him for his own good and safety, and WILL serve to calm him in excitable, confused situations - sufficiently to save his life, perhaps, in traffic jams, and at least enough to keep him from being a general nuisance to others.

Sadie has been boarding with us for just about 3 weeks.

She is getting her “going home” bath. Did you know when you board with us we send your dogs home with a fresh bath and nail trim?
🛁
She’s been a great and fun addition to the Good Paws family during this time. She’s full of a lot of kisses and silly antics. She’s going home with more confidence and coping skills than when she arrived.

Can’t wait to hang again Sadie! Indigo and Girl are going to miss you.

“Things People Say to Dog Trainers!” —-well s**t, a day in the life at Good Paws! This is very funny and very accurate.

26/07/2019

Rocksy has shown not only poor leash skills, dragging her owners down the street, but also severe dog reactivity. She does pose a bite risk and has a habit of redirecting onto the person holding the leash.
Regan’s parents are nervous and afraid to allow her to walk Rocksy by herself, and is one of Regan’s goals for training.
Up ahead, as well as, off camera to the left, are two dogs. This would usually cause Rocksy to be lunging, screaming, barking, growling with only concentration on the dogs. But you can see Regan has an incredible handle on Rocksy and Rocksy is completely focused on her handler. We have provided a positive experience for both and the parents to understand how to manage and handle Rocksy.
••
Great job, Regan and Rocksy!

Living in a city with so many dogs, I find it's important for people to understand and respect other dogs space while walking your dogs on leash.

📍 Too many people feel meeting random dogs is a good thing and how to socialize dogs. By having your dog run up and greet every dog on the street you are actually turning that into a habit of pulling to toward random dogs, that can get your dog bit and then form bad associations, teach you dog to be calm and walk by other dogs not go into their space uninvited.

📍Meeting random dogs on leash is not how to properly socialize dogs. it is a great way make your dog uncomfortable in forced meeting where they or the other dog can't get away and even get your dog bit.

📍Take the time to do appropriate dog meetings that advocates for both dogs.

Here is a step by step video guide;

📍 Just ask yourself if you know how to read both dogs body language, properly break up a dog fight and is it worth it.

Here is our annual July PSA! I am very adamant about providing safety details for your pets during this time of year. This is the #1 day of the year for missing pets.
Here are some ways to help prevent this from happening and what to do if your pet goes missing or if you find a lost pet:
🇺🇸🐾
Even the most well-behaved and non reactive animals can go missing. Let's keep this a day for celebration!
🎇
Make sure you put collars with UPDATED TAGS on all your pets. If they are microchipped, call the chip company to make sure your information is correct and up to date. If your pets will be in boarding, make sure you list a LOCAL emergency contact with the chip company too. This can include a vet's office.
🇺🇸
I always recommend keeping your pets at home on the Fourth. There are far better days to celebrate with your pets than this day.
🎇
Talk to your vet about some good light sedatives if your pet is extremely nervous and scared of fireworks.
🇺🇸
If you must bring your pet outside to celebrate fireworks, or must take them out to use the bathroom: keep them on a double leash/collar system (even in fenced yards). This means a leash should be attached to a training collar - either a martingale or prong, this is the leash you hold. These collars prevent the dogs from being able to slip out. They should be tight, only allowing room for two fingers to fit (three fingers if you have tiny hands). A second leash that is attached to a flat collar (normal collar) or harness and the leash will be attached to your pants/belt, or a back tie.
🎇
Crate them in a room that can be away from windows/doors to help muffle the sounds. Play some soothing music in the room.
🇺🇸
Keep them far enough away from any firecrackers. Remember, firecrackers may shoot in directions not intended and your pet cannot understand how to move in time.
🎇
Take an up to date photo of your pets. Remember lighting changes fur color and appearance.
🇺🇸
Stay tuned for more posts on what to do if your pet goes missing and if you find a lost pet!
🎆🐾
Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe Independence Day Holiday!
