Meet Livestock Vet Barbie 🎀—she’s rocking pink boots, a pocket-sized stethoscope, and an endless supply of enthusiasm for barn calls 🐴🐮. Sure, she’s a little shorter than the rest of us, but she’s already fitting right in!

Just kidding! In all seriousness, Dr. McCleery will be heading back to Texas A&M—her alma mater—next week to meet with equine-focused students at their job fair, working to secure that ever-elusive associate!

Here she is in her cold-weather coveralls, mixing ProStride to inject into a horse’s knee. What’s ProStride? It’s a regenerative treatment using the horse’s own blood components to reduce inflammation, promote healing, and help with lameness or arthritis. As I prepare to return home, I'm sharing my final post from the South African dip tanks. For those who have never seen it, the process of cattle leaping into dip tanks is quite impressive. Check out this video to see it in action! 🐄💦 The dip tank is designed to submerge the cattle's heads, ensuring ear ticks are treated. This leap may look scary, but it's crucial for preventing the severe damage these ticks can cause. Without treatment, ticks can create large wounds, abscesses, and udder damage that makes it hard for cows to feed their calves. Not to mention the threat of tick-borne diseases like Ehrlichiosis (heartwater), Babesiosis (red water), and Anaplasmosis (gall sickness). Although MEVS specializes in equine veterinary care, we are also happy to provide care for small ruminants (we love goats!).
