On Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we celebrate the joy and unconditional love our pets brought into our lives. We unfortunately had to say goodbye to one of our clinic cats, Peach, earlier this month. We miss her every day. We are comforted knowing that we gave her the best possible life while she was with us. We know she is over the rainbow bridge enjoying all the cheese and treats possible. 🌈🐶🐱

To remember those pets that are no longer with us, share a photo of them in the comments.

It is so important that your pet sees a veterinarian one or more times a year for a healthy, wellness visit.

"Why should I bring my pet to the doctor if they are healthy?"
🐾Your pet gets to build a relationship with their veterinarian and staff. The vet can be a scary place for some pets, and by bringing your pet to the vet when they are healthy, it tends to be more enjoyable process for them.
🐾They a get a nose to tail in-depth examination. We look for any lumps or bumps, check those eyes and ears, listen to their heart and lungs, and check to make sure their extremities are working as they should. All of these things are noted in their chart and we are able to refer back to those records when needed.
🐾Thanks to that record-keeping, we are more likely to catch any abnormalities regarding your pet if we see them more frequently, rather than a pet that was last seen when it was a puppy or kitten. We compare from year to year to make sure there are no major changes in their examination.
🐾Your pet will receive their yearly vaccinations which boost their immunity against many harmful diseases.
🐾We will check your pets for any internal parasites, the main ones being intestinal parasites (worms), and heartworms! We can either treat the pet that day or come up with a plan to treat them.

Is your pet overdue for their wellness exam? Time to get them in! Your pet will thank you in the long run. Call us at (618)594-4515 today to schedule your wellness exam for your pet!

Fleas can be more than just a nuisance; they can affect your pet’s health and happiness. 🐕🐈 Here are some essential tips to ensure your furry friend stays protected:

🐾Regular Flea Prevention: Use vet-recommended flea prevention treatments consistently. Spot-on treatments, oral medications, and flea collars are all great options.

🐾Routine Grooming: Regular brushing and baths can help detect and remove fleas before they become a bigger problem.

🐾Check Your Pet: Regularly inspect your pet’s fur and skin for signs of fleas or flea dirt. Early detection can prevent a larger infestation.

🐾Consult Your Vet: If you suspect a flea problem or need advice on the best prevention methods, your vet is the best resource.

Your pet deserves to be happy and healthy—let’s keep those pesky fleas away! 🐶🐱❤️

At Carlyle Animal Hospital, one of the most rewarding parts of our job is creating a bond with our nervous patients. 💕 Watching a frightened or anxious pet slowly open up and trust us is truly heartwarming. Ashlyn is pictured below with "Bonito" who is sometimes scared at the vet. He was able to create a bond with Ashlyn during a drop-off appointment, and he did so well!

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support and care for these special pets and to build lasting relationships with them and their families. If you have a nervous pet, know that we’re here to help every step of the way. 🐶🐱💖

Last week, Courtney had her last day at CAH before she heads off to SEMO to pursue her dream of studying pre-veterinary medicine. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re incredibly excited for her next chapter. She attempted to get a photo with the clinic cats to commemorate her time here... you can see how that went. 😹🐾💜

Courtney’s dedication, compassion, and hard work have made a lasting impact here. While we’ll miss her bright smile and unwavering commitment, we know she’s going to achieve great things in her veterinary career.

Join us in wishing Courtney all the best as she takes this exciting step towards her dreams. We can’t wait to see the incredible vet she’ll become!

🐾Patient Highlight: Meet Augie!🐾

Augie is a 13 week old Vizsla who has been visiting us recently to get all up to date on his puppy vaccinations. Vizlas are not a common dog breed we see in our area.

Some fun facts about Vizslas:
🔹Vizslas ONLY come in one color variation, a beautiful reddish, rust-color.
🔹The breed originated in Hungary where they were bred to be hunting/retrieving companions.
🔹They have the nickname "velcro dog" due to their extremely close bond with their owner. They are happiest when showing loyalty to their family.
🔹Vizslas require lots of exercise due to their energetic nature. Owners should be prepared provide both physical and mental stimulation daily.

Do you or have you ever owned a Vizsla? Share a photo in the comments!

Today is Dr. Gray's last day at CAH before she begins her maternity leave while we all patiently wait for baby's arrival!

Things to know:
🐾We have adjusted our appointment and surgery schedule to account for Dr. Gray's temporary absence.
🐾Dr. Schaffer will be filling in as needed for routine, wellness visits ONLY.
🐾On certain days, this could affect our availability to take on emergencies, and owners should be prepared to seek veterinary care at an emergency facility if needed. We recommend Hawthorne Animal Hospital in Glen Carbon (618-288-3971) or Veterinary Emergency Group in Brentwood (314-970-2545).
🐾Dr. Scott, Dr. Brown, and Dr. Schaffer will be doing their absolute best to keep up with the demand of veterinary care needed in our community during this time. We may schedule routine appointments further out to ensure we have room in our schedule to accommodate non-routine/emergent appointments.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time! We can't wait for baby-girl Gray to make her appearance!!

🐾🏥 We can't stress enough how crucial it is to bring your precious puppies in for their check-ups! Rosie the chocolate Labrador puppy visited us for the first time last week and got a clean bill of health! She also enjoyed a nice helping of cheese to keep those puppy wiggles at a minimum. 😉

Reasons your puppy needs regular veterinarian visits:

🩺Early Detection of Health Issues: Regular check-ups allow veterinarians to identify potential health problems early, when they are easier and less expensive to treat.

💉Vaccinations: Puppies need a series of vaccinations to protect them from serious diseases. Veterinarians ensure your puppy is up-to-date on these crucial shots.

🪱Parasite Prevention: Puppies are vulnerable to parasites like fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms. Veterinarians can provide medications and advice on how to prevent and treat these pests.

🍴Nutritional Guidance: Proper nutrition is vital for a puppy's growth and development. Veterinarians can recommend the best diet for your puppy's age, breed, and health condition.

🐕Behavioral Advice: Veterinarians can offer guidance on training, socialization, and behavioral issues, ensuring your puppy grows up to be a well-behaved and happy companion.

💖Establishing a Relationship: Building a relationship with a veterinarian early helps your puppy become familiar and comfortable with veterinary visits, reducing anxiety in the future.
