Happy birthday to all shelter dogs today! Today is a special day to celebrate shelter dogs whose actual date of birth is unknown. Let's celebrate by adopting a shelter dog, donating to an animal shelter, or volunteering your time at an animal shelter. If you are unable to adopt or volunteer, you can still help by donating to an animal shelter. Every little bit helps.
Today is World Snake Day! It's a day to celebrate snakes, which are often underappreciated and misunderstood. They may be slimy and slithery, but they do have historic and medical significance. For example, the Staff of Aesculapius, the official symbol of the American Veterinary Medical Association, is a single snake with the letter "V" superimposed.
Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day!
♨️Pets cause over 1,000 house fires each year in the United States.
♨️Nearly 360,000 house fires occur each year in the United States.
♨️Over 40,000 pets die every year in house fires. Awareness can save lives.
The best way to protect your pet is to include them in your fire safety plan. Pet alert window clings, which should be available at your local fire house, that First Responders will see and know to look out for any pets inside.
There are many ways to keep your pet from causing a fire. Blow out candles before leaving home, block off access to the kitchen or remove stove knobs if pets can reach it, and keep any and all wires out of chewing distance.

There are so many dogs in need of a good home everywhere in the world. Let's help reduce the populations in animal shelters by adopting through them. These dogs are in the shelters quite possibly for most of their lives and deserve better.
Let's see some pictures of dogs that have won your hearts over and have been rescued.
Happy Memorial Day!

Anxiety, a mental condition, is the body’s natural response to stress and persistent fear. Dogs, like humans, are prone to anxiety. According to doctors, anxiety is a rather healthy expression of a dog’s emotions, but it can often spiral into something disastrous at any minute. Dog Anxiety Awareness Week recognizes that the emotional well-being of your anxious furry friends is in jeopardy and a human intervention from time to time is an essential requirement.
Dogs can develop anxiety for various reasons. Some dogs may experience anxiety as a response to traumatic experiences and health conditions, while others may experience it due to various environmentally related causes.
Symptoms of Anxiety in dogs:
▪️Aggression (destructive behavior)
▪️Urinating or defecating in the house
▪️Panic (panting, pacing, active escape behavior)
▪️Depression (trembling, tail-tucking, hiding, reduced activity and passive escape behaviors )
▪️Restlessness (Pacing, tail chasing, and circling)
▪️Repetitive or compulsive behaviors (Drooling or panting, lesions secondary to licking and chewing, or excessive barking)
So how do we treat anxiety in dogs?
▪️Training, counter-conditioning, or medication.
🐾If your dog is experiencing anxiety please contact your veterinarian. Start with a thorough checkup and a behavioral consultation.
National Tabby Day falls on April 30 worldwide, celebrating those lovely striped cats. Thought by some people as a cat breed, tabby is not. It’s a coat pattern seen in almost all domestic cats. There are four known patterns on these tabbies’ coats: the classic, mackerel, spotted and ticked. Also, there’s a variant of these patterns — the orange tabby. Orange tabbies have a stereotype of being lazier than other cats. It’s probably due to the popularity of a fictional cat who, you know, hates Mondays and loves lasagna and sleeping.
The classic tabby, also known as blotched tabby, has the 'M' pattern on the forehead but, rather than primarily thin stripes or spots, the body markings are thick curving bands in whorls or a swirled pattern, with a distinctive mark on each side of the body resembling a bullseye.
Instead of having bands of stripes, spotted Tabby cats have bands of spots. The spots vary in size and can resemble broken stripes similar to those of a mackerel Tabby
White spotted cats, also called piebald or bicolor, are simply cats with any quantity of white on them but that aren't entirely white! The white spots can be limited to a locket on the chest or just some white mittens, up to an almost entirely white cat except for its ears and tail.
Ticked tabby cats exhibit hardly any stripes or spots. Although their coat stripes are very thin and barely visible on legs, face or tail, these are tabby cats through and through. It's not the coat but the hairs themselves that are striped.
Patched Tabbies have patches (hence the name) of dark or grayish brown and patches of red or orange with the Tabby pattern throughout both colors. They are often referred to as Tortoiseshell (or Tortie) Tabbies because the brown and orange spots are like those seen on the shell of a tortoise.
Happy Earth Day!
