Our Story

Laurie Barnum, CEO/ Founder, welcomes you to SAVE A SMALL DOG RESCUE, INC. We are a non-profit 501C3 tax exempt California charitable organization. We are a public corporation that rescues small breed dogs from high kill shelters, owner releases, and abandoned situations. We operate on volunteer service and donations.

Our Rescue facilities are located in PHELAN, CA, and we partner with PETCO. Adoptions are processed from our PHELAN location during weekdays at scheduled times, and from our Adoption Events held each Saturday and Sunday at PETCO in BEAUMONT, CA. Our Rescue facilities provide a home-like environment in which we allow as much time as necessary for individual rehabilitation. Doing so helps us to become aware of each dog’s personality and needs. This not only helps us to focus on their individual rehabilitation, it serves to help us in our search for the most compatible potential adopter.

We house and care for an average of up to 20 dogs who are less than twenty pounds. We are devoted to providing LOTS of love, nurturing, socialization ( a big factor), and patience with each dog in our care. In return, we strive to find people who will love them as much as we do, who will provide them with the best of care, and who will include them as a family member in a forever home.
