Not doing house calls! I haven't in over a year.

1. I don't own a car, I don't have a driver's license. I cannot operate a mobile business.

2. The economy sucks. Mobile grooming is a luxury service with massive overhead that fluctuating gas prices hold by the BALLS. 😡
I Charge $90/ an hour to groom house call and still have too many clients calling me. Gas prices were lower in 2020 and I charged $70/hr and had too many clients to fit on the schedule.

If I start to charge what gas prices are at now?? People would suddenly find whatever it was they needed in order to take their dog to a cheaper in building salon. 🙄 all of the sudden fluffy CAN ride in the car. Suddenly you have enough time to drop the dog off during a work from home lunch break. Because it's cheaper. And I'm saying that I GET IT. Please do whatever you can to save money! But asking for mobile grooming services for less than the cost it takes to drive to you while you sit on your own 🍑 in your own home isn't it. 🥺 Ok?
Do you know how HEAVY dragging half a portable grooming shop in and out of an Uber is??

3. That last one was a long bullet point..
I can't do any mobile grooming because I opened a grooming shop location in Corning NY that has been operating for over a year.

I'd love for you to come see it or at least support it on Facebook. 💞
I've been grooming for TWENTY Straight years. 🥺
It doesn't seem possible does it?

But I've finally opened up my own grooming spa and I enjoy running it the way I love to with organic and natural shampoos, cage free dog areas, cat grooming and boarding. All natural and raw food in my sale boutique on the first floor.

⚠️ Toxic Contaminants Hiding in Pet Foods ⚠️

Kibble and canned pet food is “fast food:” it’s super convenient and sustains life, but is it an ideal food for a lifetime? No. The same is true for humans living on all-in-one nutrition bars and nutrition shakes: it’s easy, but not an ideal type of food for the body, over a lifetime.
Not to mention the “feed vs. food” issue. There’s “feed grade” ingredients and “food grade” ingredients, and it is important pet owners know the difference.

One of the reasons ultra-processed pet foods have so many recalls and create so many health problems is that top-selling brands use ingredients that don’t pass human food inspection standards – they use “feed-grade” ingredients that are only intended for animal consumption (and yes, that means the ingredients are NOT deemed safe for human consumption 🤢).

In a recent article appearing in the pet food industry trade magazine, things we should expect to find in pet food are arsenic, mercury, PCB, BPA, dioxin and aflatoxins. No, I’m not joking. Thankfully, there are a growing number of startups/new pet food companies using only human-grade ingredients in their pet foods (which dramatically reduces the risks for lots of contaminants). I’m thankful we have lots of new brands to choose from (and there’s always making nutritionally complete pet food in your kitchen 😊). Read today’s free article to learn more: https://bit.ly/3L2FWJr

Repost from

Happy Labor Day. Thank you to the radical workers who organized to demand policies and practices that support our dignity and humanity. We are far from done. Here’s to our reclamation of life, wellbeing, and care. Here’s to the fading power of capitalism, exploitation, and grind.

RIP Barbara Ehrenreich

Text reads: “When someone works for less pay than she can live on—when, for example, she goes hungry so that you can eat more cheaply and conveniently—then she has made a great sacrifice for you, she has made you a gift of some part of her abilities, her health, and her life. The 'working poor,' as they are approvingly termed, are in fact the major philanthropists of our society. They neglect their own children so that the children of others will be cared for; they live in substandard housing so that other homes will be shiny and perfect; they endure privation so that inflation will be low and stock prices high. To be a member of the working poor is to be an anonymous donor, a nameless benefactor, to everyone else."—Barbara Ehrenreich

Kitties Can Help Repel Pests 🐱

If you’re a cat parent, then you probably know that your kitty finds catnip and silver vine irresistible. This is because of the nepetalactone molecule in both plants that activates the pleasure center of cats’ brains. 😸

But did you know that these plants can repel pests, too? And when your cat nibbles on them, their repelling effect becomes more powerful! Read more in today’s free pet article (link below).

🚫 A Warning to Pet Parents This 🚫

Macadamia nuts are the only nuts pets should steer clear of, as they can cause profound GI upset if ingested even in very small amounts. Other types of raw, unsalted nuts are safe for pets – they don’t contain any toxins that affect pets – but are still listed on many websites as “foods pets should avoid” because they can be a choking hazard (so chop all nuts into tiny, bite-sized pieces before using as training treats 👍). And remember, no macadamias for pets.

What type of dog water bowl do you use? 🐶💧

The dog water bowl has previously been identified as the third most contaminated🦠 item within the household and can be a breeding ground for dangerous germs & life-threatening bacteria🧫 that can put the entire house at risk, researchers at University Centre Hartpury have revealed.

So, which dish is best to use for a dog water bowl? The bowl that grows the least amount of life-threatening bacteria!

In the first study of its’ kind, Hartpury scientists found stainless steel grew the least amount of bacteria and over time, plastic bowls grew the highest amount, but the shocking part was the most harmful bacterial species (including salmonella, E. coli and MRSA) were most frequently identified in CERAMIC bowls!

Lead can also be a problem when using ceramic bowls, and the endocrine disrupting chemicals found in plastic bowls are a no-go! Also be aware plastic bowls🥣 can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis🙀: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, leaving the nose👃🏼 and adjacent areas with pink blotches.

So stainless steel🍴 bowls are the safest, right?

Well not so fast…. there’s even been recalls on stainless bowls😫. In our upcoming The Forever Dog book, in the chapter titled Environmental Impact and the section labelled “Toxic Toys, Chews, and Beds", we cover how to choose the best chemical-free bowls🚫 that won’t leach contaminants over time. The Forever Dog is available now for pre-order, worldwide, check out the www.ForeverDog.com/about

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT HERBS TO EVER ADD TO YOUR PET’S DIET!

In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers looked for the presence of toxic chemicals in umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. Of the more than 400 chemicals tested for, 287 were detected in umbilical cord blood. Of these, 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain or nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animals. - Environmental Working Group

Hello toxic planet and the skyrocketing occurrences of cancer in our pets (and in ourselves)!

Let me introduce you to one of my top 5 most important herbs that needs to be in your pet’s life, if it isn’t already!

Milk thistle!

This herb has been used for over 2,000 years to help fix a zillion different problems!

Recently, scientists from the Radiological Physics and Advisory Division in India found in their study on milk thistle that silibinin, found in milk thistle, programmed cell death in breast cancer.

“Early laboratory studies show that silymarin and other active substances in milk thistle may have anticancer effects. These substances appear to stop cancer cells from dividing and reproducing, shorten their lifespan, and reduce blood supply to tumors.” - University of Maryland Medical Center

Personally though, I love it for its allergy-fighting properties! If your poor pet is constantly itching and scratching, milk thistle can help!

According to The Truth Cause of Allergies – It’s In The Liver:

“The liver has to process toxins and when it can’t do its job it stores them. If it stores them it also produces additional histamines to protect itself. If an allergen is present the brain sends a message: ‘Send out a few histamines! I think there’s an invader!!’ and the liver proceeds it releases too many, and you have the allergic response. Cleanse the liver and maybe [...] you’ll become allergy/asthma free.”

Dosages:

Use ¼ of a teaspoon per 20lbs of body weight.

Detoxification is such an important process, not only for us humans, but also for our pets. We can be feeding our furry loved ones the best foods in the world but pores clogged with toxins will not allow essential nutrients to pass, causing a weakened immune system. A pet’s weakened immune system equals a multitude of problems! Milk thistle is the boss of detoxifiers!

Shave - Shave the hair on, in around the affected area. The thought of this might make you cringe a bit, but if you don't take off the hair, it will become trapped in the wound by pus, and you'll have a much harder time healing the hot spot. In fact, hair in and around the affected area can create a perfect environment for the wound to enlarge and the infection to get worse.

If the infection continues to spread, you know you're not treating it effectively at home and you should get your dog to your veterinarian as soon as possible. Some hot spots can result in fever and serious underlying skin problems, so if you see the wound getting worse instead of better after a couple of days, it's time to seek veterinary care.

Once you've shaved the area and identified the margins, clip the hair ack until you see healthy skin.

Hot spots on dogs are raw, painful areas of skin that are typically red and inflamed, and the fur has often been licked, rubbed, or bitten off. The medical term for hot spots is pyotraumatic dermatitis, acute moist dermatitis, or superficial pyoderma.

Hot Spot Triggers - Just about anything that causes your dog to scratch, lick, or bite at an area of skin until it is irritated and inflamed sets the stage for a hot spot. They are also created when a dog's natural bacteria overpopulates areas of their skin. When an infection arises from a dog's own bacteria, there is almost always a root cause. Hot spots often occur in dogs with underperforming immune systems. Once the skin is red and raw, it's primed for infection, which creates a vicious cycle of itching, scratching, and further trauma to the skin.

It's important to note that hot spots can come on very quickly. For example, you might leave your perfectly comfortable dog one morning to go to work and by the time you get home, they are hard at work on an area of skin that has become irritated, inflamed, and oozing over the past few hours. Hot spots tend to be very painful and sensitive to the touch. Any dog can develop the condition, but it's most commonly seen in dogs with thick coats, dirty and/or moist skin, and dogs with allergies, including flea allergies.

Tomorrow we start looking at treatments.
