Sable Sunday

One of the most amazing aspects of a well-bred sable German Shepherd is watching their colors transform over time. From a dark puppy to a light adolescent, and then back to their darkest as they mature—it’s incredible to see how their coat evolves. Iorek is a perfect example of this stunning transformation. Coming from a long line of titled and health-tested dogs, with a titled father and fully health-tested parents, he exemplifies strong genetics and beautiful, dynamic coloring.

Sable German Shepherds are truly unique, and their evolving coats are just one of the many things that make them so special.

PSA:

I need to address some rumors that have been circulating about my kennel, Pinnacle K9, and set the record straight.

Between July 4th and July 5th, Ruby went missing from her latched crate inside a secure kennel sometime between 11:30 PM and 8:30 AM the next morning. As soon as I noticed she was gone, I immediately began searching my property. I paused only to feed and care for the other dogs before continuing my search.

I contacted Ruby’s owner while still actively searching and called local vet offices, animal shelters, and enlisted help from a few close friends and colleagues. I even shut down my business to devote all my time to finding Ruby, resulting in significant financial loss.

While I understand the owner’s anguish, the continuing harassment and negativity from the owner and others has been unhelpful and disruptive. This is a difficult situation, and I would love nothing more than to reunite Ruby with her owner and put a stop to all this nonsense.

The police arrived without prior notice, so I graciously extended an invitation to tour my entire property, including my home and facility. During their visit, I made sure they were thoroughly acquainted with all my dogs, both personal and client, as well as the crate that had been damaged and the window from which the fan had been displaced.

Despite the owner’s claims, I have been out searching daily. We search the property multiple times a day, leave food out, and ensure someone is always present in case Ruby returns. I have investigated all possible sightings and leads. I am grateful to the few community members who have been helping tirelessly, although they prefer to remain anonymous to avoid the same harassment I have faced. They are immensely appreciated.

The negative attention, threats, and slow drives by my home have hindered my ability to search effectively. To my knowledge, the owner has only searched for one day and has never been to my facility, with her previous dog or this one, as this is the SECOND dog I have trained for her.

Although the owner has requested that people not contact me, if you genuinely want to help with Ruby’s search, please feel free to reach out directly. I appreciate any sincere interest and am happy to coordinate efforts for those who are truly committed to assisting.

For the record, Ruby escaped from a latched crate inside a secure, climate-controlled kennel building. She then pushed out a window fan, escaping through the window. This was caused either by the fireworks or the storm, or both. I did have an AC unit, fan and radio going for ambient noise. All dogs were fine when I last checked on them at 11:30PM. This has never happened to me before in my 15+ years of working with dogs professionally, and I am devastated.

Additionally, I want to address the FALSE claims that I have stolen and/or sold her and other dogs. Let me be clear: I AM NOT IN THE BUSINESS OF STEALING AND SELLING DOGS. This is completely untrue and defamatory.

To address the rumors of me stealing this dog for breeding purposes: she is unregistered and does not meet the temperament standards I uphold for breeding dogs. Due to my exceptionally high standards, she is considered subpar at best. Her aggressive biting behaviors and OCD tendencies are entirely inconsistent with my breeding criteria.

If or when I begin breeding, it will be with cherry-picked specimens from Germany bred for health, excellent temperament, work ethic, and adherence to the rigorous German standard for breeding (proven via show and the highest working titles). This includes passing the breed survey, an essential tool for preserving and advancing the German Shepherd Dog breed.

The breed survey evaluates a dog’s temperament in various situations to ensure they are friendly, self-confident, and controlled. To enter the breed survey, dogs must be registered, fully vaccinated, at least 2 years old, and have successfully completed endurance and temperament tests (BH/BH-VT). They must also have received a rating of at least “good” in a breed show, obtained a performance title (IGP 1 for SV breed survey or SchH 1, IPO 1, or IGP 2 for USCA breed survey), and have certified hips and elbows. Only the best dogs, selected for their temperament, performance, and anatomy, can pass these rigorous standards.

In my 29 years of owning some incredible dogs, I have never bred a litter, intentionally or by “accident,” because of these high standards.

There is no legal authority that can compel anyone to post on social media. I am posting now to clarify the situation. I would prefer to spend my time working on the ground rather than online. The fact remains that spreading hate and negativity has not helped bring her home.

You are welcome to search my page. You will see that I am not regularly active on social media, as I have more important responsibilities than spending time on a computer or phone. This will not change due to public opinion.

The owner requested training for Ruby due to her behavioral problems and biting tendencies. She is nervous and reactive, and as such, requires a careful approach. Please exercise caution when approaching her.

My property is searched multiple times daily, and I would appreciate assistance in searching the surrounding areas. Message me and I can let you know where I have and haven’t searched on a daily basis.

I appreciate any and all assistance in locating Ruby. If your intent is to genuinely help rather than spread negativity, please private message me. Constructive efforts are needed to bring Ruby home safely, not unwarranted hate.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and helped during this challenging time. Let’s focus on finding Ruby.

To Heather Rousse: Let’s address the matter of trespassing. I can assure you, I would certainly be aware if you were on my property on the 4th of July. To anyone else found on my premises uninvited, be prepared to face trespassing charges. Unwelcome visitors will not be entertained.

I understand there have been concerns about my recent absence. I wanted to take the time to address everything comprehensively in one go. Addressing all the questions and squashing the rumors takes time. I know the court of public opinion can be quick to judge, but I want to ensure every rumor and allegation is properly addressed. Thank you for your patience, and welcome to my world.

Sincerely,
Pinnacle K9

🚨 URGENT: Missing Dog Alert 🚨

Our hearts are heavy as we share that a beloved dog has escaped from our training facility during the recent storms and fireworks. We've been tirelessly searching for Ruby all day. However, despite our efforts to keep the owner informed, tensions are high. The owner has even involved the police, causing more distress. I immediately notified the owner and was keeping her updated until she became aggressive and threatening to me.

Please, if you have seen or found this dog, we urgently urge you to reach out to the worried owner directly at (615) 400-9509. Any information or sighting will be greatly appreciated as we work together to reunite this precious pup with their family. Your help can make all the difference. Thank you for your support during this difficult time.

**If you see this dog, do not chase. No collar, no tags, she is microchipped. Gets along great with other dogs, so if you have a friendly dog she will approach.**

📈 Did you know that the Fourth of July is one of the days with the highest instances of lost pets? According to statistics, the American Humane Association reports that approximately 1 in 5 pets goes missing after being scared by loud noises like fireworks. 😢 Let's work together to keep all our pets safe during this holiday season.

Happy Halloween! 🎃

Our dogs like to share in the fun, too. Here’s a healthy treat recipe our dogs go crazy for!

Credit goes to: https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/healthy-dog-treats-recipe/
(Recipe slightly modified)

Ingredients:
▪️½ cup warm water
▪️¼ cup ground flax, for skin and coat health
▪️½ cup pumpkin puree, for dental health and breath (or sub unsweetended apple sauce)
▪️2 tablespoons natural peanut butter, for protein and healthy fats (smooth or chunky)
▪️2 tablespoon dried parsley, for fresher breath
▪️½ teaspoon cinnamon, for brain function
▪️2 ½ cups whole wheat flour, for fiber, protein, and minerals (or sub oat flour)

Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350F (180C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or leave it dry (the treats shouldn't stick).

2. In a small bowl or measuring glass mix the warm water and flax. Set aside for about 10 minutes to thicken.

3. In a large bowl add the thickened flax mixture, pumpkin puree, peanut butter, parsley, and cinnamon and mix well. Add the whole wheat flour and mix to make a stiff dry dough (it won't come together just yet). Dump the dough and any remaining flour and bits from the bowl onto a clean work surface. Gather the dough and knead to incorporate all the flour. If your dough doesn't come together and is too dry, sprinkle over 1 teaspoon of water at a time until the dough comes together into a stiff dough.

4. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to about ½ inch (1.3 cm) thick. Cut the dough into treats. I used this bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the treats but you could use any cookie cutter, or just cut them into squares with a knife or pizza cutter. Gather any dough scraps, and reroll to make more treats.

5. Lay the treats out in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for 45 mins - 60 mins until the treats are golden on the bottom and dry. Let cool before giving one to your pup. I like to let my treats cool on the baking sheet and sit out in the open overnight to dry even more and become more crunchy. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or you can freeze them.

ARE YOU WORTH COMING BACK TO?

There are many reasons why dogs don’t come back when you want them to. A dog’s genetics play a big role in this when an environment is far more stimulating and exciting and listening and coming back to you disappear into the background as genetic instinct takes over.

An exciting scent or seeing something to chase can all override a response to you.

Genetics aside, a common reason why dogs don’t come back when called is because it’s not a positive experience for them.

I often cringe when I watch owners trying to get their dogs to come to them when they call.
They call and call and get increasingly angry and frustrated as their dog keeps ignoring them.

When their dog eventually does come back, or has been chased and "captured” by their owner, they get screamed at, yanked about, smacked or punished in some way for taking so long and not listening. Why would a dog want to return to someone who does this to them!

Make coming back to you worth it by always making it a rewarding experience.

Have a little patience if it takes longer than you would like, let your dog finish what they’re doing before calling them, practice in different locations and environments and never reprimand or punish them for coming back.

There is never a guarantee of a perfect recall each and every time, but making it rewarding will greatly improve the rate of success.

I always thought, when it came to my dog, I needed to do more.

When my first dog had behavioral issues…

I thought he needed more exercise…

More training…

More mental stimulation…

More interactive toys.

What I never realized was…

He was really good at DOING things.

But the skill he lacked…

The one that got us in trouble ALL…THE…TIME…

Was the skill of doing…

NOTHING.

He didn’t know how relax.

And all I did was keep him busy.

Listen…

I don’t care if your dog is reactive, or if you have a dog that you are competing with in dog sports…

Teach them how to do nothing.

Teach them how to chill out…

How to relax…

And for the really busy dogs…

Make them practice it often.

Your sanity and theirs will thank you 😉

There’s huge value in teaching your dog to be calm. We work on that daily to prevent and treat problem behaviors. 🙏

Today I spent two hours in a tire shop, waiting for my jeep to get new tires, alignment and an oil change. I had Branch, my young english shepherd, with me. As I sat in the lobby, reading through facebook posts, answering a handful of questions, and chatting with folks online Branch lay at my feet, doing nothing. He was relaxed, and patient. He spent the entire time just relaxed in his doing of nothing. And it occurs to me that too often we push activity as a form of management for dogs (especially certain types of dogs prone to high energy - like an english shepherd) and too little we stress the importance of teaching a dog to do nothing. I think sometimes we take the needs of high energy dogs too literally, and the focus is so much on their exercise or active training that we forget these dogs need time to relax and rest too. And many dogs who struggle with anxiety also struggle with being unable to relax. Teach the value of hanging out just relaxing in place for a period of time to your dog. It's useful for you, and beneficial for them to know how to just switch it off, power down for a bit and do nothing.
