K9 Kismet Dog Rescue Based in Long Beach, CA our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs. K9 Kismet is an all-breed rescue.

We believe in compassionate rescues where we know the dog is on borrowed time and likely to be overlooked or deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state or breed. We ensure all animals we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

📢 Seeking foster, foster-to-adopter, or adopter❕

Recently, Tiger Lily suffered a loss in the form of her person passing away. For the last 2.5 years, she has lived as an only-dog to an elderly man who loved her. He had been Tiger Lily’s temp foster through the shelter and continued to be there for her once we pulled her into rescue in an effort to save her from euthanasia and get her the extensive emergency dental care she needed. A great fit for each other, Tiger Lily enjoyed being his companion. Now a healthy senior at nearly 10 years young, she’s looking for an adopter to spend her golden years with.

It’s hard to describe Tiger Lily without overusing the word love. Afterall, that’s what she’s all about. Tiger Lily loves everyone she meets. When petting this extremely affectionate girl, she leans in as though to say, “Where have you been my whole life?” Her doting nature is carried over to her stuffed toys. We’ve seen her meticulously pick out her favorites from a toy box and, one-by-one, carry them over to her bed before diving in and enjoying them.

Don’t let her age fool you: Tiger Lily lights up at the very mention of a walk. Forget all the fitness apps: If you need an exercise partner to motivate you to get your daily steps in, Tiger Lily is there for you. Her preference would be a route that never ends, but she’s happy to follow your lead. Tiger Lily is well-mannered on the leash, sticking by your side and waiting for cues.

Tiger Lily would be happy as an only-dog or living as part of a pack. At the end of a long day, this sweet soul will put herself to bed, where she sleeps peacefully through the night. She’s more than ready to find a home to call her own.

🚨 URGENT COURTESY POST 🚨 Meet Harlan. We recently received a call about this handsome 5 month old male labrador/hound puppy. A good Samaritan pulled him out of a bad situation with the hopes of finding him a better life. Sadly, the Good Samaritan can't keep him much longer, so Harlan needs to find a new home ASAP.

Here is what Harlan's temporary guardian has to say about him... "He is sweet, gentle, and a very quick learner. He is good around small children and animals. He currently lives with an 8 year old child, a 7lb Yorker, and an elderly cat. He does great in many new and different situations as I have had to have him babysat often due to my heavy work schedule. He is housetrained. Enjoys walks, playing fetch, playing with toys, going to the beach, being around other people and animals. He does fantastic when he's playing on his own in our yard and can keep himself entertained."

Harlan is fully vaccinated and microchipped. He is not neutered yet, but his temporary guardian is willing to take care of that before he is rehomed.

If you are interested in adopting Harlan, please message us here or email us at [email protected] so we can put you in touch with his guardian.

Harlan is a big baby who deserves a loving family. Please help us help Harlan find his forever home. or

Levi is a good boy who loves people and all that goes into being part of the family. He’s affectionate, cuddly, and–quite honestly–hasn’t gotten the message that he’s not a lapdog. He’s going to find a way to snuggle close and lay his giant dome on your lap. He’s also a pro-sleeper through the night. You may have to rustle him for breakfast, versus the other way around. Levi enjoys getting out-and-about to smell all the smells and meet all the people.

He had to rebuild his stamina after being found as an emaciated stray with an abdominal blockage, but he now has all kinds of pep in his step for walks and hikes. If you like to mix up your exercise routine, Levi is great in the car, always eager to jump in the back seat and see the sights. He also lights up around a hose and a ball. Levi would do well in a home with other dogs or as the only dog. House-trained, curious, smart, tolerant, and motivated by treats and praise, he’s going to make an adopter very happy.

Second Chance Canine will meet with Levi’s foster or adopter to pass on best practices and to offer guidance for the transition period. If you want to meet Levi, fill out the application today!

Thanks to Just Food For Dogs for donating food to the K9 Kismet Pack, Mocha is enjoying delicious and nutritious meals while on her healing journey. As you can tell, she loves it!

There will be a more in-depth update to come, but in the meantime, please know that the treatment plan for Mocha is well underway. Stay tuned!

💲Please consider making a FriYay $1 donation to help us get Mocha healthy and ready to be adopted. It may not sound like much, but dollars (much like our vet bills) have a way of stacking up! Since we’re a 100% volunteer run organization, that dollar goes directly into the care of the dogs in our care.

🎉 Pippi has been adopted! This lucky dog has been settling in with her new pack members, complete with two big humans, two little humans, and two cats.

Thanks to fosters opening their doors, donors like Just Food For Dogs and you, and the generous funding provided to us by The Marion and Richard Graham Foundation’s 2024 Established Organization Grant, we were able to answer a good Samaritan’s plea for help.

Now vaccinated, spayed, and fully recovered from the severe leg injury she suffered after being run over as a stray, Pippi the puppy was able to bid farewell to her patient medical fosters and grow roots in her new home.

Join us in congratulating Pippi and her family! 💕

Meet Copper. We are smitten with this dog who reminds us of his resilience every day. With an intake date of 10/26/22 at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center and the fate of having to spend the next fourteen months on evidence hold, Copper’s world was very small. For a love bug like himself, the fact that he was rarely allowed to exit from his kennel must’ve been torture. Even after the hold was lifted, Copper didn’t attract an adopter; due to overcrowding at the shelter, his future was put in jeopardy.

On 1/17/24, we were thrilled to tell Copper that we were breaking him out of the shelter, once and for all. He’s a handsome four-year-old, 54-pound Ridgeback-Shepherd mix. Copper is an effortlessly cool, mature boy who loves a routine and is eager to please. He is independent and crates well, knows his basic commands, and is food motivated. When Copper comes out of his shell, he shows off his goofy side, especially during training and playtime. He’s a good companion dog because he loves to be around humans and other dogs. Affectionate and friendly, he melts when you pet him.

If you think Copper might be a good fit for you, fill out an application today to introduce yourself!

78,840 hours of fighting to make a difference. 3,285 days of learning, growing and loving. 108 months of hard work, good laughs, and many tears. As we look back at the past 9 years we've been in operation as a 501(c)(3), we count our success as an organization through the 524 lives changed.

Today, as we reflect on our recue journey, we celebrate the dogs that came into our lives, the broken hearts that we helped to heal, the trials and tribulations that taught us things we might not have learned otherwise. We remember every freedom walk, trip to the vet, paw held, tearful goodbye, and love match made. We cherish each of our moments in rescue. Moments we wouldn't trade for the world.

It has been our honor to serve the dogs, our community, and our hearts these past 9 years. Thank you for being with us through it all. We wouldn't be the rescue we are without you: our volunteers, fosters, and supporters.

Today, as an anniversary gift, a private donor is matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to $900. We hope you will consider supporting us today, too. There's still so much work left to be done. Work we can't continue to do with YOU.

Today’s is for a dog who has been red-listed due to severe kennel stress. Our handsome friend Gallant does not care for the noisy, overcrowded shelter environment he's called home for the past 131 days. Please help us his story so we can find him the calm, loving accommodations he truly deserves.

Name: Gallant
ID:
Gender: Neutered male
Age: 2 years
Breed: Mountain Cur Mix
Weight: 75-80 lbs
Stray Intake: 3/22/24

*URGENT: Must be rescued/adopted by 8/1/24

City of Long Beach Animal Care Services Shelter Notes: “He has participated in playgroups with other active non-assertive dogs and has done well. Over the course of 4 months, Gallant has been housed at the shelter he has continued to display increasing levels of kennel stress & in-kennel anxiety. Gallant displays concerning levels of in-kennel arousal behavior & reactivity towards other dogs kenneled near him or approaching his kennel, Gallant will jump/spin on kennel walls when hearing or observing activity from other neighboring dogs followed by alarm barking & lunging towards kennel. Recently lesions/wounds have been observed on Gallant legs/abdomens, likely as result of jumping/leaping on walls of kennel causing abrasions from structural hardware. Due to Gallant’s high levels of kennel stress and continued poor quality of life/deterioration at shelter, Gallant needs placement by the end of day on Thursday, August 1st 2024.”

Knowing that Gallant does great OUT of the kennel, a shelter volunteer was allowed to take him to an off-site adoption event. Unfortunately, the few people that attended were looking to meet smaller dogs or cats, so at the end of the event, he had to be returned to his least favorite place.

According to the LBACS volunteer, Gallant enjoys long walks and being pet or brushed. He knows the commands for “sit” and “down” and is friendly with people. He is great on leash, but is less great around lizards, squirrels, and small dogs. He was amazing in the car and wonderful at the adoption event in Silverado Park. We walked comfortably near the tennis courts and the skatepark, and he loved relaxing on a blanket and playing with toys.

If you or someone you know would like to meet Gallant, run, don’t walk.

You may have noticed that our posts lately haven’t included Levi. We were hoping to make a long overdue adoption announcement this week, but unfortunately, it’s become a return-to-rescue sort of post. After 6.5 weeks, Levi seemed to feel the loss, but it wasn’t meant to be. We’re going to do our best to find him a true forever family so this becomes a distant memory. Dogs are resilient, and he’s no different.

Levi was dealing with separation anxiety in the home, but he’s in great hands with his temp foster who is an experienced dog trainer and ready to do the work while we put together a long-term plan. We have high hopes for Levi the Lovebug. After all, he’s never met a human he didn’t immediately want to know.

Follow for updates on his rescue journey.

Want to meet this adorable smoosh face? Resistance is futile. Fill out an application today to introduce yourself.

“I came into this room for a reason…!” 🫠

The one thing Clark never forgets is that he’s looking for an adopter. It’s tough out there for these seniors. After 6 months in the shelter and now 26 months in foster care, he can’t help feeling a little forgotten.

Wonderful news for a wonderful dog. Willa is officially home!

Thanks to a sweet soul who chose to focus her dog search on a senior in need of a second chance, Willa will be living out her days knowing what it means to be loved.

From an injured stray to a shelter dog to a pet living in a peaceful home with someone who understands that dogs are family, it’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do.

To all who donated to Willa’s care including Just Food For Dogs, her foster for being her rock when no one else would, and the volunteers who helped her along the way, thank you! ❤️

Our newest pack member, Ezekiel, developed a cough yesterday afternoon. This morning, our vet confirmed our boy has an upper respiratory infection. 😔

With medical upon intake (x-rays, bloodwork, f***l testing, treatment for giardia, treatment for his skin, etc.) and today’s visit, we've spent over $1,000 on Ezekiel's care so far.

If you’d like to honor a pledge or make a tax-deductible donation to help us with little Ezekiel's recovery, we sure would appreciate it! As an all-volunteer rescue every dollar we receive will go directly to his care.

It’s hard to find a pic where Pippi isn’t grinning from ear to ear! From being a stray that was hit by a car to loving the good life in rescue, we’re guessing she knows she has it good. We can’t continue to offer dogs sanctuary and a path back to their forever home without supporters like you.

🐾Five dollars may not seem like a lot, but we make every dollar count. Please donate for Pippi who is currently undergoing a spay surgery. While she’s under anesthesia, she’s also getting the “spare” dewclaw removed on her back leg where one is normally not found. Sticking out and floppy, it’s a trouble maker that’s been begging to be banished.
