Home for the Holidays for pets...Do you have room to love on a foster baby for the holidays? This is a wonderful program!
Do you have room at your Thanksgiving table for one more? 🦃🍂
We are looking for foster families who are willing to welcome our animals into their homes during Thanksgiving for our first annual "Home for the Holidays" program!
VOCAL provides all supplies needed for your foster guest like food, leash and collar, beds, litter box, etc. All you have to do is love on them for a few days! This provides the animals with a much-needed break from the stressful life of the shelter and allows our adoption team to learn how they act in a home! Not to mention, they will get to experience the holidays in a loving home for possibly the first time!
You can pick up your furry guest on Tuesday 11/26 and they can return to us Saturday 11/30 (unless you fall in love)!

😺 Interacting with cats as a professional pet sitter is not as straight forward as you might imagine. It's especially challenging for most people to read the body language of a cat who is of two minds. They may purr and rub up against you, but that doesn't always mean Pet Me! In fact, you may hear people say, "They bit me or swatted me out of nowhere!" Or "That cat is like Jeckle and Hyde" when in fact there were signs.
🤔 I've found that this is fairly common for shy or anxious cats who are missing the affection of their owners. They want to be loved, but the underlying anxiety is still there and they also want you to respect their boundaries. A cat sitter who just jumped in with tons of affection and petting is risking breaking trust with the cat and getting bit.
🐾 This is why, as a cat specialized pet sitting business, I train my sitters extensively on cat body language. I get to know each individual cat in our clients' households and discuss the best way to care for them with my team and review the experience they're having during their visits. This results in comments from clients such as, "Wow, my cat doesn't like anybody, I can't believe you were able to pet him" or " I'm amazed how you've bonded with my kitty." I love for these comments and we work really hard to achieve this level of care with each and every pet.
This guy here is one of those cats and he has become extremely loving during our visits. His big purr-motor is amazing. However, we don't push the limit with his pets and after a certain amount we just sit and allow him to rub up against us instead. He tends to get overstimulated and will grab and attack our hands. He's not out to hurt us, but it's usually pretty startling and I want to avoid it if possible. lol!
Take it from me, cats don't always need you to be touching them. They love just being together. 🥰

2018 UPDATE! We’re Growing! Now offering services to a wider area, including the WEST side of Ocala! I’m so excited to expand our service areas and to welcome a new TEAM model of pet sitting. This will allow me to take some needed time off (your pet sitter needs a vacation, too!), give me more time to handle some administrative duties to continue providing the personalized attention our clients deserve, and will provide us all with excellent backup coverage for times when one of us gets sick or has an emergency. My Mom, Carla, has moved to Ocala and will be a fantastic addition to the team. She’s high energy, experienced, reliable, and well....you know, that’s where I get my love of animals in the first place ;) We also have a few other team members who will be introduced along the way as we grow.

Hi I'm Shannon and I LOVE all Animals! Over the years I have been owned by Great Danes Zeus & Hercules, a little Shih-Tzu we rescued named Chewy aka "The Boss", our black kitties Sebastian and Oliver, and a brilliant African Gray Parrot named Cocoa.
Growing up in South Florida I always had a mix of pets including snakes, bunnies, lizards, mice, hermit crabs, ferrets, and stray turtles that wandered into the yard. Thanks to my Mom for that!
I often tell people my husband says "There's No room for more pets" so, I researched ways I could turn my love of animals into a small business for myself. In 2006, after graduating from UF with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Biology, I decided to turn my part time pet sitting hobby (for family and friends) into a full fledged professional pet sitting business. I never really imagined I’d be doing it this long and continue to love it so much, but here I am...ready to meet you and your furkids and welcome them to the Ocala Pet Sitting family.
