Uptowncharlybrown Stud LLC The Uptowncharlybrown Stud thoroughbred racing partnership might be the best kept secret in America.
Founded in 1999 by Bob Hutt it's grown from two horses with a dozen investors to where today they own one-hundred horses, fifty individual partnerships with five-hundred partners all by word of mouth. How many other businesses can you find on Google with nearly a perfect five star rating? For the fourth consecutive year Uptowncharlybrown Stud ranks in the top one percent in the Owner's Standings.
The best part it's AFFORDABLE as you can get involved for as little as a thousand dollars which includes the first three months of training expenses. Uptowncharlybrown is NOT a claiming stable. Instead investors get involved in promising unraced two-year olds where the sky's the limit; and, the stratosphere is where some of their stars have gone. It all started with Uptowncharlybrown back in 2009. Charly took his lucky investors on the ride of a lifetime campaigning on the Triple Crown trail. Today, he proudly stands as the number one stallion in Pennsylvania. His progeny hit the ground running and have never looked back. Midtowncharlybrown and Wait For It are multiple stakes winners each having earned over a half-a-million dollars; Dixie Serenade another multiple stakes winner won the Grade III Victory Ride Stakes at Belmont, earning $350,000; and, Midnightcharly, yet another stake winner, has four-hundred thousand on his resume. With Uptowncharlybrown Stud you don't need to spend like a millionaire to feel like one. Everything's included soup to nuts including the Win Photo as there's no hidden extra's. Bob Hutt and Joerg Hoffmann form the management team that treat their investors as if they're royalty keeping them informed of the going on's at the stable. Their communication skills are second to none with daily emails, pictures, videos, race replays and Past Performances. As an owner you're welcome to come back stage to observe training. On race days, you're cordially invited with family and friends into the paddock. When your horse wins it's so exciting that you literally feel as if you're "walking on air". It's a guarantee, that if you love horse racing it's more fun to stand inside the Winner's Circle than on the outside looking in. So if you've ever thought about participating in the Sport Of Kings what are you waiting for as here's your golden affordable opportunity. Great story about one of our former race horses.
"Gumdrop's Chiclet is now affectionately known as Trix at her home, Pony Paddock. I got her as a five-year-old when I was fifteen. We were both still learning, and still are. We currently train with Molly Cobb and we are competing in First Level dressage and Novice eventing. Trix is such an amazing partner, she is quite opinionated and can be hot-headed but there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for me. She is such a sweetheart and loves to work. She is such a cuddle bug! She even occasionally works in lessons! Her favorite part is cross country, she doesn’t blink an eye at anything. I can be a nervous rider, so she is my perfect pair, even bringing me to tears at our last competition in Novice at Florida Horse Park. We are currently schooling training XC and second-level dressage movements. I am so excited to see where we go, she has a forever home with me. I am so glad that she made it into my care. " - Sophie
Gumdrop's Chiclet was retired by her Trainer, Edward Coletti, and Owner/Breeder Uptowncharlybrown Stud after 5 races because she was "just slow".
Trix was originally sent to Lara Anderson at Full Gallop Farm to be restarted in eventing. In 2021 she competed in the Retired Racehorse Project with Kaitlyn Hartford in eventing, finishing second overall. Kaitlyn also decided to enter her in the barrel division for fun to show the diversity of OTTBs!

Our Story
Bob Hutt was born and raised in New York City and is the President and creator of Uptowncharlybrown Stud LLC, a thoroughbred management company. Bob’s also a successful businessman having owned a financial consulting business as well as recently serving on the Board Of Directors at the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation. Prior to creating UTCB Stud, Bob privately owned CalHutt Stable where he owned and managed more than 70 horses.
UTCB Stud was created to honor his late father David (1998), and then subsequently his best friend trainer, Alan Seewald (2010) who passed away in his sleep while Uptowncharlybrown was on the Triple Crown trail. UTCB Stud has become a family, where friends meet similar to the long running sitcom on NBC, CHEERS. On any weekend you can find fellow partner’s visiting the backstretch to watch our horses train. You, your family & friends are always welcome to join us. The barn's our social club where partners share a love for these magnificent warriors. The most important thing about UTCB Stud is we make owning a thoroughbred racehorse simple, fun, exciting; and most importantly, affordable.
Where else for as little as $1,125, can you enjoy all the privilege’s of FULL OWNERSHIP as you aren't required to spend like a millionaire to feel like one. Visiting the barn & backstretch; talking to the jockeys, coming in the paddock on race day; and you'll swear that when we win, you're walking on air into the Winner's Circle. Even the Win Photo is included.
The one element in racing that forces new owner's to leave the business as fast as they got into it, is always TRAINING EXPENSES. Make no mistake, that at all major racetracks, it costs the same to feed/care for the Kentucky Derby winner as it does for a low level claimer; about $4,000 per month. At UTCB Stud, we offer unmatched first class royal service with the best communication in the industry. We send out daily educational emails at least three times a week. We're not one of those "the horse is racing, be there" kind of racing partnerships. Our huge difference is we offer young unraced two-year old's where your upside is "the sky's the limit".
On the other hand, should you get involved with a cheap claiming partnership there's rarely any upside as eventually the weight of the economics in the "Sport of Kings" will eat you alive. At UTCB Stud your investment includes six months of training expenses. Everything is included "soup to nuts" without any hidden surprises. Should the horse still not be paying its' way six months later, you're only obligation is to pay an affordable training expense that you share with your other Limited Partners. At UTCB Stud we never charge monthly expenses as other partnerships have been known to do! And, as a "Limited Partner" your personal assets are fully protected. Some expensive racing partnerships want a financial statement before they'll even speak to you. Not at UTCB Stud!
As for winning, UTCB Stud is right up there with the TOP OWNERS in the United States. In 2017 we won at 27% as we finished in the TOP 2% of all owners in the United States. So far in 2018 we’re off to an even hotter start as we've been winning at 47%. UTCB Stud is now ranked in the TOP 1% in the Owner’s Standings. Compare our "average earnings" to the most expensive racing partnerships as you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for an "affordable" racing partnership then you've come to the right place.
UTCB Stud is NOT a claiming stable. Instead we offer unraced two-year old’s in training. Owning a thoroughbred is very exciting as you never know when you’re going to find that
next special champion. We’ve been blessed as UTCB Stud has found and developed multiple stake winners. We don’t buy other people’s stake horses as some of our rather expensive competition have been known to do. We prefer to develop our very own.
Our history includes purchasing an unraced R Betty Graybull for $60,000. All she did was win multiple stakes and earn nearly a half a million dollars. Today’s she’s a successful broodmare as we sold her for $300,000. We were blessed to buy an unraced 2YO c**t in Uptowncharlybrown for $57,000. He then took us on a magical carpet ride which included the Grade One $1,000,000 Belmont Stakes.
Today “Charly” as he’s affectionately known is an outstanding sire standing at Diamond B Farm where he’s the #1 leading third-crop stallion in Pennsylvania. In 2017, his progeny won at 80% and averaged an outstanding $60,000 per foal. Pennsylvania is second to none as it offers the best State-bred breeding & racing program in the land. PA Bred’s race for 40% more in open Maiden Special Weight (MSW) races as the purse is $65,000. Midtowncharlybrown, Charly’s 3YO son, won $173,000 in 2017 winning 6 out of 9 races including a second place stakes finish. He was voted 2017’s leading 3YO at Parx. Charly’s already has had 3 different one-hundred thousand dollar earners from just his first two crops of racehorses.
Since 1999, we’ve sold-out most offerings, mostly thru word of mouth. Back in 1999 when we first started it was just ten partners and one horse. We then won our first two races and have never looked back. Today, UTCB Stud proudly boasts over 400 Limited Partners, more than 25 active partnerships, 70 horses which include racehorses, a stallion, broodmares, weanlings, yearlings, and two-year old’s. We do hope that you decide to join us. For further information, or should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give Bob a call at 732-241-6606 or you can write to him at [email protected]
