Gentle, Soft, Incredibly SWEET Hazel thought her dream had FINALLY come true of a forever family, when suddenly, and within 48 hours of her enjoying the comfort of a warm and cozy bed, her new parent dumped her right back at the hellhole that is the BACC for "Personal Problems". Alone, lonely, her worst nightmare come true....she now waits in her tiny kennel, staring off into the darkness and wondering if she will lose her life on Monday. It's heartbreaking. And we are devastated for her. She has, as the volunteers remark over and over, the kindest eyes, and her personality is so soft and inviting...she sits quietly next to you and slowly reaches out a paw and places it ever so gently on your knee as if to say "Thank you so much for being her for me, I so appreciate your love and kindness." The look in her eyes is so intensely lovely...a plea for love, of gratitude, of devotion. As if her incredible personality is not enough, she is also lovely on leash, housetrained, crate trained and she knows commands and executes them with grace. She was so excited at her new home that she played exuberantly with the small dog and kids, that earned her an Experience rating -- imagine her joy at finally having a family only to have it snatched away?) :-( Her favorite things are cuddling, snuggling, kissing and belly rubs. All she dreams of, right now, is a family to love -- something she is sorely lacking and that if she does not get by midday tomorrow will mean the end of her life. A life this beautiful should NEVER end. If you agree, step up for this amazing girl now...she is a treasure, and a decision you will NEVER regret. Foster or adopt Hazel. She is a one in a million dog.

A VOLUNTEER WRITES: If you’re one that believes the eyes are the window to the soul, Hazel makes for the best living proof. And if you’re not….well, Hazel might change that! She has the kindest eyes and they are outdone only by her incredibly soft personality. She solicits attention from her cage with eye contact and tail wags, and when I approach, she does a little tap dance with her front paws. She quickly syncs with me on leash — staying at my side and frequently looking up to check in. Hazel seems housebroken and is reported to be successfully crate-trained. When I sit down on the bench in the yard, Hazel jumps up at my side, and manages to steal my heart in record time! Almost as soon as I ask her to “sit” she places her paw on me. She holds it there until I move my hand away, only to then offer me her other paw! Though she does love treats, her motivation doesn’t seem to be food, but human contact — a physical manifestation of the bond she is so eager to make. She loves to be petted, and a loving look is all it takes to push her over into belly rub position. She gives kisses very diligently and is not overbearing at all in her displays of affection — she’s very gentle and mild mannered. Every time I walk Hazel I fall more in love with her — she is really something special, and would be so happy to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!

INTAKE NOTES: 08/17/15 15:42 Hazel is a 6 year old female spayed white American Staffordshire mix who is being returned because the owner can no longer have her in the home. Hazel lived with 1 adult and no other animals and she has not yet been exposed to small children. Hazel was only in the home 48 hrs so infomation was limited. Owner reported that Hazel walks well but has no information to report about encounters with other dogs. On walks Hazel was insistent on leash. Hazel did not have any accidents with eliminations in the home. Owner reports that Hazel was receptive to female visitors but could be defensive to her male friends. Upon intake Hazel was still for introduction but was not defensive to kennel rope. Hazel walked well on leash but could be insistent. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (positive) but did not collar or photograph. Hazel was responsive to guidance on leash.

SAFER NOTES: The previous owner reports that Hazel is tolerant respectful and affectionate with children, but interacts in a somewhat rough manner because of her size. The owner also states Hazel is tolerant and respectful of larger dogs, but does not do well with smaller breed dogs. Hazel was said to be house trained and rarely has accidents in the house Her activity level was said to be a medium and it was stated that Hazel is shy and fearful of things she is not comfortable with. It was mentioned that Hazel has been crate trained and can spend up to six hours in her crate, and she was also said to be well behaved whether she is left in the home alone or outside in the yard. During the Intake process it was noted that Hazel was friendly and interacted with people she came into contact with. During SAFER Hazel was very social and jumped on the assessor to solicit attention. She maintained a loose body posture for all handling items, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Hazel was easy to handle when engaged with the food, but was not interested in the toys, and only showed minimal interest in the rawhides. Hazel appears to be very social with human handlers, but can become uncomfortable with other dogs, so it is recommended that introductions with other dogs are done slowly. Hazel was also reported to play rough with children, and does not do well with smaller dogs, so the department feels Hazel would do best with an experienced adopter with no young children, and no small dogs. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When of leash with other dogs, Hazel is loose and wiggly when greeting. She is tolerant of brief greetings, but intolerant of lengthy or multiple greeting and will give correction.

DOGGIE PLAYGROUP NOTES: When off leash with other dogs, Hazel will greet the other dogs politely but seems to grow uncomfortable with prolonged interaction. 8/19 update: Hazel greets the other dog politely initially but will offer distance seeking behaviors if the dog attempts to re-engage. 8/20 update: Hazel is social, engaging in pushy running play. She will mount and use her paws in attempts to solicit play. She will correct mounting. 8/21 update: Hazel is tolerant of pushy behavior, may engage in play briefly and offers appropriate corrections for mounting. 8/25 update: Hazel greets politely and is tolerant at first but becomes less interested in interacting and offers correction when sniffed. 8/28 update: Hazel is social and playful, engaging in rough running play with both males and females. She will offer appropriate correction for mounting. 8/29 update: Hazel is social and greets other dogs politely. She may engage in brief bouts of play when solicited.

You can only claim ignorance for so long. Don't you wonder how they get animals to submit? To behave? How they break their spirit? A long time ago I thought it was "neat" to go to the circus and then I learned of the horrible existence these animals have just for "our entertainment"
This turns my stomach
They are wild animals that unless injured should be allowed to live their lives free not abused and mistreated for the sake of a few dollars
Please do not support this :'-(
