Helping Outside Animals

Helping Outside Animals A foster-based animal rescue in CT run by volunteers with f/t jobs. HOA originated in 2009 in NYC. We work with several reputable rescues.

We feed, trap, transport, foster, and provide medical care for strays in need, then get them into safe/loving homes. We work with authorities on enforcing the law pertaining to dogs who are being forced to live outdoors without adequate shelter, food and/or water. We also work on getting help for stray cats and/or TNR.

He spent eight years being someone's everything. Now, he's just another old cat in a kennel.

They found him in the quiet apartment, a faithful silhouette against the silence where a heartbeat used to be. He waited by the door, as he always had, for the sound of familiar footsteps. The footsteps never came. The NYPD found him there, a 17-pound testament to a love that had suddenly, tragically, vanished. His owner passed away.

Now, when people walk past, they see an old cat. A senior. They see a reserved gentleman, curled up in the back of his cage, who doesn't make a sound. They don't see the eight years of sunbeams and soft blankets, of gentle hands and a voice that said his name like a promise. They don't see the profound loss that weighs him down. They just see another overlooked soul, his golden years ticking by behind a glass window

But Merry is so much more. He is sweet. He is kind. In the face of unimaginable change, he still offers a soft head bump to a caring hand. He doesn't understand what he did wrong, because he did nothing wrong. He only ever knew how to love.

New York, we can do better than this. We are a city of second acts and big hearts. Let's rewrite Merry's final chapter. Let's flood his world with so much attention that the right person sees him, the person with a quiet home and a patient heart, ready to offer a soft landing for a soul who has lost his sky.

Share his story. Be his voice. Let's turn this quiet tragedy into a roaring testament that in this city, no one is overlooked. Let's find the someone who will make him their everything, once more.

Adopt Merry. Because every ending should be gentle. He is at Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC)w

β€œ Hi, I do rescue on a shoestring budget with no help from the rescues in this city. I've been feeding this tom cat for 1.5 years. His name is Flip we named him that after his frostbitten ears that curled up before we even knew him. I live on the 2nd floor and he has always stayed on the ground floor as he waits for me to leave him food multiple times a day. In the last 3-4 days he has let me get within 3 ft of him which I thought was odd and thought his ears looked a bit off until today I saw his ear hair was clearly blood drenched on the outside and I didn't want to press my luck so I stayed a few ft away so I could snap some pictures and a video I provided. I noticed over the summer he seems to scrunch and lick out one side of his mouth and I am assuming its due to dental or gum pain thats why I feed him wet food and leave him seafood medley since its a little easier to break down when Im unsure if he had eaten or not.

There is a total of 4 unneutered toms that frequent my yard. 2 I've fed for 1.5 yrs and 2 others who showed up 1.5 months ago and the other I think on christmas sadly. I have tried to organize tnr for them with my city 501c3 rescues who know me well and it got ignored. I have taken in these toms kittens and there moms along with other emergency situations in my immediate vicinity but I've been so busy keeping up with it all that these toms keep getting overlooked which cannot go on another kitten season. I've done it for 2 kitten seasons and Im financially spent and have had to put my other cats I rescued needs on the back burner. I have senior cat who constantly needs bloodwork and transdermal meconazole due to hypothyroidism, another cat has had chronic non stop diarrhea do to I beleive GI issues and another cat who has an extreme case of stomatitis the vet quoted at 2,200 with a friends rescue rate that is dropping weight cause they can barely take in watered down Ge**er chicken and gravy baby food. I look forward to speaking with you and I appreciate your time and response. β€œ

We are incredibly relieved and grateful to share that Rocco is now safe following an emergency situation. (See photo in his new home)
Pax has a meet this Saturday and Sheba will be entering foster into our rescue. Three dogs in dire emergent need that are now safe. This outcome would not have been possible without the many people who stepped up β€” sharing, tagging, and helping spread the word. Your support truly made a difference, and we are thankful for each of you.

Owner-to-owner outcomes like this don’t just happen on their own. They are made possible by dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes β€” people with full-time jobs, families, and children β€” who put in countless hours to create safe, responsible solutions.

There is also an important reality that needs to be acknowledged. In CONNECTICUT, yes, dogs are euthanized all the time:
Healthy βœ…
Young βœ…
Purebred βœ…
For any reason: lack of a place to go βœ”οΈ minor behavioral (jumping, barking) βœ”οΈ minor medical (a food allergy, fleas) βœ”οΈ lack of funds to care for or treat an issue βœ”οΈ you name it!

In CONNECTICUT, there’s no animal control, animal shelter, tax-payer funded or private shelter facility, nonprofit organization or Rescue group obligated/required to accepted an unwanted or owner surrendered dog. CT is unlike many other states in this regard. This means throughout our enitre state, regardless of circumstances or emergency, there is no place to legally drop off your dog.

While we welcome constructive help, negativity does not save dogs. People do. There are real humans behind this work, doing their absolute best in an imperfect system.

Thank you to those who continue to lead with compassion, action, and understanding. Moving forward how can you help for future dogs??
