A Unique Approach to Puppy Playgroup
We run a playgroup Mon thru Fri for dogs to be socialized in a safe, fully monitored, off-leash, environment which is outdoors on acreage where the dogs get to run and run.
We pick up dogs from their home between 10:00 -11:00, bring them to the ranch for structured play and then at 1pm we start our rounds dropping them home, tired and very happy. The time spent here however, is not a “free for all” as we work on basic obedience such as learning to wait at gates, wait their turn for a treat etc etc. With young puppies it is terribly important to work on recalls, which we do on a regular basis while they are playing with distractions.
We also work with toys, I love for our young ones to learn to play tug with the older dogs and other puppies as this is a very appropriate form of play. Each dog goes through a thorough assessment to ensure he/she is a good fit for the highly stimulating playgroup environment. I introduce the new pup to their future playgroup companions one at a time and watch the body language of your pup, but also the dog that I am familiar with, to see if there is any avoidance going on there. If the new pup is too anxious or fearful, then we rethink whether this is a good environment for them. Either way, you can be certain of an honest assessment as our ultimate goal is for the dogs to have fun.
The facility is split into 3-4 different areas where we separate dogs according to personalities and play styles, one for the body slamming rough players such as Labradors, Goldens, Airedales etc., another for all of our softer dogs, nearly always our doodles (we have a ton!) and our much smaller dogs. We are based on sand with excellent drainage, so no tall grasses or standing water.
