We can bust myths on Wednesdays too!

Myth Buster Monday!

Let's bust some of the most common myths about spaying and neutering pets.

❌ Myth: It’s healthier for a female pet to have one litter before being spayed.
✅ Fact: There’s no health benefit at all. In fact, spaying before the first heat reduces the risk of certain cancers later in life.

❌ Myth: My pet will gain weight after surgery.
✅ Fact: Weight gain comes from too many treats and not enough playtime, not from spay/neuter. Keep them active and eating right, and they’ll stay fit!

❌ Myth: Spaying/neutering will change my pet’s personality.
✅ Fact: Your pet will still be the same loving companion. The only changes are positive such as less roaming, fewer behavior issues, and no surprise litters.

❌ Myth: Outdoor cats don’t need to be fixed.
✅ Fact: Outdoor and community cats are the biggest contributors to overpopulation. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) keeps colonies healthier and helps stop the cycle.

Every year, millions of healthy cats and dogs enter shelters simply because there are too many being born. The best way to prevent unwanted litters is spaying and neutering.

WHY Spay and Neuter? It saves lives!
🐾Prevent Unwanted Litters: Eliminate the possibility of unexpected pregnancies for your pets. Preventing unwanted litters will keep thousands of animals out of over-crowded shelters! It is an essential part of lowering our community's pet overpopulation in an ethical and humane way.
🩺Protect Against Health Concerns: Exclude the risk of certain cancers and infections, as well as minimizing the risk of injuries from fighting or accidents from roaming to find a mate.
🚫Curb Unpleasant Behaviors: Behaviors like mounting, marking, roaming, or over-excitability can be reduced or eliminated after spaying/neutering.

REMEMBER: Pets can be fixed BEFORE they reach reproductive maturity! Some can start reproducing as early as 4 months old.
