Each week, we’re answering our most-asked customer questions! This week: Why does my pet shed so much?

Shedding is natural for both dogs and cats and happens for a few key reasons! Seasonal changes play a big role: as winter approaches, pets shed their lighter summer fur to grow a thicker coat, and in spring, they lose that winter coat to stay cool. Certain breeds, such as Huskies and Labs for dogs or Maine C***s for cats, tend to shed more, while others shed minimally. Age, diet, and health can also influence shedding, so it’s worth keeping an eye on changes in fur.

If you’re noticing extra fur around the house, our grooming salons offer the Furminator treatment—a deep de-shedding process that can significantly reduce shedding for both dogs and cats. For at-home maintenance, we carry the Equigroomer, a gentle and effective tool for regular brushing that works great on dogs and cats alike without irritating their skin.

And with the holiday season around the corner, our grooming appointments are booking up quickly! Be sure to reserve your spot early to keep your pet looking and feeling their best!

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month

This cause hits close to home for us here at Dog Krazy. Just recently, as Ella, one of our incredible groomers, was simply petting my Bulldog, Pork Wonton, she noticed a tiny lump under his arm. A vet visit later, we learned it was another malignant mast cell tumor. This experience has been a powerful reminder of how essential it is to regularly check our pets for any new lumps or bumps. Mast cell tumors can be tricky—they often grow and shrink, with some appearing on the skin's surface while others, like Pork Wonton’s, are subdermal and feel like a small bug bite. Ella found the tumor when it was 7mm and felt like a tiny pea under his skin. The day of surgery the tumor shrunk to the point of them not being able to find it again. When it was found it was only 3mm. Thankfully, Pork Wonton had his tiny tumor removed, and it was classified as a grade 1 MCT. Today, he’s cancer-free, and we’re just keeping up with checks every three months to stay proactive!

As pet owners, we all need to stay vigilant. Give your dog those extra pats, check them over, and if you find anything unusual, visit your vet. Remember, no online advice can replace real veterinary care. Early detection can make all the difference!

***the photo shown is after they aspirated the tumor and the area swelled due to multiple pokes. Before the aspiration the area was flat and no signs of a lump was visible***

Every week we answer one of our customers most asked questions. We deal with this question often and we also deal with it often as our Beagle has an odd obsession with hu***ng our pot belly pig! Sometimes things get weird up in the DK household!

Hu***ng is a common, though sometimes embarrassing, behavior in dogs. While many people assume it’s purely sexual, dogs hump for a variety of reasons:

Excitement or Overstimulation – Dogs may hump when they’re overly excited, even during play or social interactions. It’s often just a way for them to release pent-up energy.

Dominance or Social Behavior – Sometimes dogs hump as a way to assert dominance over another dog or even objects in their environment. However, it’s not always about dominance; it can also be a way of interacting socially.

Stress or Anxiety – Dogs may hump as a way to cope with stress, frustration, or anxiety. In these cases, the behavior is often repetitive and can indicate they need help managing their stress levels.

Attention-Seeking – If your dog knows that hu***ng gets a reaction from you, they may do it simply to get your attention—whether positive or negative.

Medical Reasons – If your dog suddenly starts hu***ng more than usual, it could be due to an underlying medical issue such as a urinary tract infection or skin irritation. In this case, it’s best to consult your vet.

If your dog’s hu***ng becomes excessive or problematic, try redirecting their behavior with a toy or treat when they start, increase their physical and mental stimulation, and provide positive reinforcement when they engage in more appropriate behaviors.

Need toys or chews to keep your dog busy? Visit Dog Krazy for the best options to help channel your dog’s energy in healthier ways!

Every week we answer our customers most asked questions. This is a daily question we get at all our stores.

Choosing the right chew for your dog can be tricky, but natural chews are a great option for keeping them entertained while also promoting healthy teeth and gums. Here are some of the best natural chews for dogs:

Bully Sticks – Made from dried bull pizzle, bully sticks are long-lasting, fully digestible, and great for keeping your dog occupied. They also help reduce plaque and tartar buildup.

Dehydrated or Freeze-Dried Chews – Options like duck necks, chicken feet, and beef trachea are rich in nutrients, easy to digest, and help satisfy your dog’s natural chewing instinct.

Raw Bones – Raw bones (never cooked) like beef knuckles or marrow bones are excellent for dogs. They help clean teeth, provide mental stimulation, and are packed with nutrients.

Antlers – Naturally shed antlers from deer or elk are long-lasting, durable chews that are perfect for dogs who love a challenge. They are low in calories and rich in minerals.

Himalayan Yak Chews – These hard cheese chews are made from yak and cow milk, offering a unique, long-lasting option that’s high in protein and free of additives.

When choosing a natural chew, always supervise your dog to ensure they are chewing safely. Each dog has different preferences, so it may take some trial and error to find the one they love most. At Dog Krazy, we carry a wide selection of natural chews to suit every dog’s size, taste, and chewing style!

It all started with a Bulldog

Dog Krazy was established in August of 2006 when Nancy realized she wanted to spend every moment of her life with her Bulldog, Piglet. Piglet is the inspiration behind Dog Krazy and the love that Nancy has for her is the reason you can walk into any Dog Krazy location and know that everything you see, feel and touch is only the best for your beloved pets. Piglet passed away in 2016 but her memory will live on through Dog Krazy.
