“Curious 🤓 Does your dog travel with you? Yes/No”
TRAINING TIP: Teach your “what to do” instead of telling them “what you don’t want” them to do. In our first Household Manners Group class .sjc, the pups learned to settle with a chew toy in the presence of other dogs and people - not to mention in super close proximity.
When you have guests at home or you have a work meeting - give your dog a bully stick, a bone or a frozen food toy and have them settle on their bed while you focus on your list 💙.
A list of “must read” books for every dog owner. Thank you Silicon Valley Dogs for putting this list together 🥰.

8-20 week old pup parents!
If I could provide a safe, structured “puppy social” where your SMALL SIZE dog learns to play, listen & relax around other dogs would this be helpful?
Sometimes a “Coffee & Danish” is all I need for 5 minutes of self care.

Ever wondered how to make public outings a breeze for your pup? 🦮🐕🐩
Watch our new reel to see how our Group Classes can help your dog be calm and confident in any setting. In this class we worked on teaching our pups “how to be calm” and “wait for permission” to greet a friendly stranger we met on the walk.

Dog Safety Reminder: Never Leave Your Dog in a Hot Car! 🚫🔥
As temperatures rise, we must remember that cars can quickly become deadly for our dogs. Here's why:
🌡️ Heat Danger: Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a car can soar to dangerous levels within minutes, putting your dog at risk of heatstroke and organ damage.
⚠️ Quick Risks: Dogs can't regulate their body temperature as efficiently as humans, making them highly susceptible to heatstroke in just a few minutes.
🚗 Precautions: If you're out with your dog, take them when you leave the car. If you see a dog left alone in a car on a warm day, alert authorities immediately.
Let's keep our pets safe and cool this summer in Silicon Valley! Spread the word to help raise awareness.
Need to see happy faces. Please share a favorite photo of your pup🐕💞🥰
Please feel free to share this with your friends and family as I’ve seen so many dogs at the ER with a possible Foxtail injury. It’s a good thing I always discuss the signs of a Foxtail injury with my clients. I hope this reminder helps!
Foxtails are in full bloom in Silicon Valley and South Bay, and they can cause significant injuries to dogs when embedded in their fur or skin. Here are the signs to watch for if you suspect your dog has encountered a foxtail:
Persistent Sneezing or Coughing: A foxtail entering your dog's nasal passage can cause continuous sneezing or coughing as the body tries to expel it.
Head-Shaking or Pawing at the Ears: Foxtails can work their way into a dog's ear canal, leading to irritation, head shaking, or pawing at the affected ear.
Redness or Swelling: Check for any signs of redness, swelling, or discharge around your dog's eyes, nose, ears, or between the toes.
Limping or Lameness: Foxtails can pe*****te between a dog's toes or embed in their paw pads, causing pain, limping, or lameness.
Excessive Licking or Chewing: Dogs may lick or chew excessively at an area where a foxtail has embedded itself.
Visible Signs on Fur or Skin: Depending on the location, you may be able to see the foxtail stuck in your dog's fur or skin.
Behavioral Changes: If your dog is unusually agitated, restless, or uncomfortable without an obvious cause, it could be due to a foxtail injury.
If you suspect your dog has encountered a foxtail and is showing any of these signs, it is crucial to seek veterinary attention promptly. Foxtails can migrate and cause serious internal damage if not removed promptly and completely.
My biggest struggle with my own dogs (when I was not a dog trainer) was navigating life in Public Places. As much as I wanted to go everywhere with them - Santana Row, Carmel Beach etc., I found it a bit challenging to transfer our group class learning outdoors.
That’s why our Group Training Classes for puppies and dogs focus on helping my clients (both dog and human) navigate public places with confidence and calmness.
We have new classes starting in the next few weeks. Link to register is in the comments.
Please comment “GROUP CLASS” and share this post to get $50 OFF your class enrollment.

What “makes my day” as a professional who works with dogs?
💙 Getting photos like these from my clients 💙
Rustom’s parents prep bags of yummy food for him over the weekend. This helps them get through the week with ease. I really have some of the best clients in the world 🥰.
Rustom is a mini Aussie who is learning to navigate the human world with calmness and confidence.
My favorite thing to do for Diesel used to be preparing about 80 food toys for the week. Diesel’s favorite activity was “finding” those toys that I would strategically hide everyday. It was a delight to watch him work.

Y'all, please JOIN ME in wishing Buffy a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The Dog Trainer in me is "amazed at his self control". His mom baked a meat cake (ground turkey + egg + rabbit liver + pork tongue + veggies + wild rice + blueberries). I wish I had the same level of patience around food like Buffy does.
Guys: Meet Bodie (Golden Retriever) and Stryker (Samoyed). They are in my Calm & Confident Puppy Board & Train program and are best buddies. I did an overlap session with both their mom’s at Pet Food Express. We practiced “mind your own dawg business” when in public. I don’t know who I love more - these pups or their moms? Our Board & Train programs teach our pups the rules of living in the human world and navigating life’s situations with calmness and confidence - https://dfordogtraining.com/board-and-train/
A snippet from D For Dogz “About Town - Impulse Control” class. We worked on “ignoring food on the floor and going to mom/dad when called”. Walter (Aussie) and Veit make this look so easy. This is the result of an amazing bond he shares with his pup. Walter was in our Day School Program and his parents worked very very hard to ensure he turns into a well adjusted dog and can navigate living with humans with ease. If you want your dog to pick you over meat and cheese on the floor, please reach out to us - www.DForDogTraining.com. #dfordog #dfordogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining #siliconvalleydogs #australianshepherd #rewardbaseddogtraining #dogsofpaloalto #amazingclient #recallgameswithdogs #dogtrainingclasses
Rainy days like today call for “unleashing your creative” side 💙. Meet Rustom, one of the smartest Australian Shepherds I am currently working with. Rustom was mostly “self employed” and mastered “doggie chores” guided by his DNA - herding moving objects, guarding the house, barking at every sound etc etc., His parents had to learn “the art of giving jobs worthy of his breed and intellect”. What a fabulous team they make 🥰. #dfordog #dfordogtraining #evidencebaseddogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtrainer #positivereinforcementdogtraining #australianshepherd #australianshepherdsofinstagram #daytraining #dogsofcampbell #ilovemyjob #ilovemyclients #awesomeclients #canineenrichment
Let’s talk about the most important skill we want to teach out dog when we are out and about in public places. Simply put it is “mind your own dog business” 🙂. Do we teach our kids to say hello to, and engage with every person we see on when we are out and about? NO, right? The same rule applies to our dog. Camper’s owners are very outdoorsy and love taking Camper every where with them. We are working in down town Los Altos on taking the “mind your own business” protocol to the next level - ignoring people in small busy downtown places. What skills do we need our dogs to learn in public places? being calm, staying next to you when needed, not just settling but actually relaxing, ignoring people, other dogs, noises, bikers on the pavement etc, In short “minding their own business”. Install these behaviors individually and then practice practice practice in different locations. Choose the level of difficulty based on your dog’s current skill set. #dfordog #dfordogtraining #positivereinforcementdogtraining #dogsofinstagram #bordercolliesofinstagram #publicmannersfordogs #bordercolliepuppy #bordercollielovers #dogsoflosaltos #dogsoflosaltoshills #doggiedayschool
The first session at school this morning was “group play”. Meet Coco (the Husky), Billie (the Frenchie), Momo (the Aussie) We divided the pups into two groups of 3 (odd number, I know. so against my own rule) and this group has so much fun. It was amazing to watch the play dynamic between these pups. I also love recording in slow motion so you can see how every muscle moves during play. #dfordog #dfordogtraining #puppydayschool #positivereinforcementdogtraining #puppytraining #husky #frenchbulldog #australianshepherd
