Buckeye Lake Area Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located about 30 miles east of Columbus in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. Our "purpose" is to help find shelter, protect, re-home, provide medical care and altering for injured stray, abused, neglected or otherwise needy animals in Licking, Perry, Fairfield and other southeastern counties in the state of Ohio. In addition, the Buckeye Lake

Area Humane Society intends to educate the public on the importance of providing quality care and implementing humane principles when dealing with animals, as well as the importance of reducing the pet over population by spaying and neutering pets. The greatest need, in the Buckeye Lake area, is to provide emergency medical assistance to sick or injured animals that are not currently provided for under Ohio law (such as cats or owned dogs) or whose owner does not have the financial capability of paying a veterinarian up front for the cost of necessary treatment. Since we do not yet have an actual facility, financial assistance and medical care is our immediate focus. Another of our goals is to keep pets in their homes by helping pet owners who may not be able to afford food or necessary supplies for their pets. We rely solely on donations of materials and financial donations and of the time and tender loving care of foster parents. Without our foster homes, we would be very limited on what animals we can help and we thank them so very much. In addition to financial donations, we are in need of material donations such as, cages, food, litter, towels, paper towels, disinfectants, blankets, heating pads, kennels, pet dishes, pet toys, and household cleaning supplies. Financial donations can be mailed to BLAHS, P.O. Box 1502, Buckeye Lake, OH 43008. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us by sending an email to [email protected]. You can also give us a call/Text at 740-964-9651.

Our annual Christmas in July Facebook Silent Auction will begin Thursday, July 25 and ends Sunday, July 28 at 9 pm😻 This helps our rescue with vetting expenses (which have recently raised:/), foster supplies (including puppy pads, KMR, wet food, dry food, terramycin, squeeze ups, toys, etc.), and antibiotics when they are sick. If anyone would like to donate an item or gift card to this auction, please call/text Joyce at 614-632-7831. It doesn’t have to be cat related. If you have already donated to the Pat and Donna day or bought something off our Amazon wish list we don’t expect you to donate again, but you can certainly bid on items 😉 We are SO grateful for ALL your support!!!

COURTESY POST: One cat home needed for an 11 year old, spayed female, purebred Turkish Angora, Brown tabby. She had surgery last year for an ear hematoma from an untreated infection. She's sweet, loves affection and has good potty habits. She was previously owned by a domestic abuse victim (mostly emotional abuse) although she wasn't abused herself. If you're interested, please email [email protected].

Tomorrow starts a string of dangerously hot days for our 4-legged friend. Please bring them in or make sure they have adequate shade (not their hot box where air doesn’t move) and plenty of water. Remember, if you see something, say something!

UPDATE ON CAT CAUGHT IN LEG-HOLD TRAP - Buckeye Lake, OH
This cat, Kiki, is recovering from having to have his entire leg amputated after being caught in a leg-hold trap that was set in a residential area of the village of Buckeye Lake. The trap severed part of his leg but it couldn't be saved. We received donations from lots of concerned citizens to help pay for the surgery. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If anyone needs a tax receipt, or just has questions, please feel free to contact Bonnie at 740-964-9651.

Someone in the village of Buckeye Lake caught this cat in a leg-hold trap. The cat's leg was severed above the foot but now the whole leg has to be amputated. We could sure use your help in collecting the estimated $815 - $1118 that will be needed for this cat's medical treatment. Please donate whatever amount you can, no matter how small. You can donate through Paypal by visiting our website at www.buckeyelakeareahumanesociety.org; Venmo @ Bonnie-Mansfield-7; U.S. mail to BLAHS, Box 1502, Buckeye Lake, OH 43008; or call Feeder Creek Vet at 740-467-2949.

We're also asking that you share this post and contact the Village of Buckeye Lake at 740-928-7100 and voice your agreement that these inhumane traps be banned in the village.
NOTE: pictured is the cat in the leg-hold trap and another trap, called a Conibear trap, that was also at the same property along with a box trap.
BLAHS sends a special "thank you" to Petplex, Feeder Creek Vet, BLPD, BLFD, Pat and Donna and everyone else involved in trying to help this cat.

Update at 7:25am. Both kittens passed overnight. No real surprise there. 😭 Thank you to our foster Vickie for doing her best to care for them. 💔💔💔💔💔

To clarify: This is NOT a photo of a dead kitten. The kitten passed away hours after the photo was taken :(
------------------
A reminder. Again.

A well intended citizen snatched up two newborn baby kittens last night, thinking they needed to be "saved." That was highly unlikely the case. Momma cats hunt for food. They have to. They leave babies "someplace safe" while they are out.

The two that came in still have their umbilical cords attached and they probably did not make it through the night with their foster. If they did, we will need a nursing mom today.

Please please, please leave babies where you find them so that mom can come back and do her job. We are not equipped to provide them with mothers milk, nutrients, body heat, and everything babies need to grow. That is a job that mom does best. Left to the care of humans at this young age, they often die. 💔

Miss Ethel is a sweet girl that has not seen kindness from humans. Despite that she took her babies to a back porch hoping she could get help. Suspected leg trap is the cause of this poor girl ( rumors from locals of someone doing this.) Ethel is needed amputation due to the damage on her front limb.
We have a goal of $450 to reach for her care.
Thank you to the ones that have already put towards her surgery! 🐾❤️
If anyone would like to help the healing process on Ethel or sponsor her please reach out to BLAHS- Bonnie Mansfield. Or If you would like to contribute to their care, you can call refugee canyon ☎️-740-929-1493 Call in a payment for BLAHS
