Second Chance Greyhounds is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It's a win-win for everyone involved!

We are a dedicated group of volunteers working to place former racing Greyhounds into adoptive homes. Our Greyhounds are unique in that they are fostered and trained by State inmates. This teaches inmates patience and responsibility, relieves idleness in the prison facilities, and allows the inmates to experience unconditional love. In turn, the Greyhounds are provided a foster home, one on one at

tention by the foster inmate, and the training necessary to complete the Canine Good Citizenship testing.

Happy birthday to Alice (SCG White Rabbit). 🐇 She had a party this morning with her family, and everyone enjoyed dog cookies and ice cream. Alice volunteers at her local public library as the therapy reading dog for children. In her leisure time, she enjoys hiking and visiting the lake.

Happy 2nd birthday to Norma Jean (SCG Norma Jean). This sweet girl has a lot going on. She loves lure coursing and participated in the LEGS Fun Trial in April. Her other hobby is visiting with the patients at Manor Lake Assisted Living and Memory Care. Her mom is her Uber driver and lure coursing coach! At home she enjoys lounging and tormenting her Greyhound brother Scout.

Eight Aussie pups took a flight to Dallas and are on the road to Atlanta! After arriving, the retired racers will relax in foster homes, get spa treatments, have their photos taken, and then check in for 10 weeks learning from our prison trainers.

Joe Be Slick will graduate on his birthday on March 31. His birthday wish is to go to his forever home. ❤️🥳☘️❤️

Here is what his trainer says about him:
“Training is going very well. He knows his basic commands and a list of extras. He knows room, water, leave it, give, catch, fetch, off and lift. Lift is a new one he just learned. When his trainer needs to wipe off his paws, she will tap his leg twice and say ‘lift’. He will raise each paw off the ground so she can wipe them off.”

The newly arrived Irish Greyhounds traveled to the prison today. Inmate trainers will spend the next 10 weeks teaching the hounds basic obedience…and probably a few extras.

The Irish retired racers arrived safely last night. Foster parents picked them up at the airport, and everyone went home to get tucked in to sleep off jet lag. Next, they’ll get their adoption photos taken and prepare for a 10-week training session in prison. ☘️
