Thursday Night Lecture!!!

Join us this Thursday, April 20th, at 7pm at the Rockport Aquarium Education Center in the Rockport Harbor for our fifth round of Fall/Winter lectures.

Which Rookery Islands Are Worth Restoring?

Join Dr. David Essian, an aquatic ecologist with the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies as he discusses predicting breeding distribution and population numbers of water birds, and how a tool he is developing will identify sites for rookery island rehabilitation that have high conservation value and can be built at minimum cost.

As always, we are free and open to the public!

Join us this Thursday, February 16th, at 7pm at the Rockport Aquarium Education Center in the Rockport Harbor for our fourth round of Fall lectures. This month our topic is "The Wood Stork and Whooping Crane: Contrasting Journeys Coming Back From the Brink".

Join Dr. Dale Gawlik, Endowed Chair for Conservation and Biodiversity, Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi as he contrasts the way in which populations of the Wood Stork and Whooping Crane have grown and why they might have different responses to the environmental changes ahead.

Marley poked his head out to say 'hi' at the Texas State Aquarium. Before Hurricane Harvey we loved celebrating our favorite Moray Eel's birthday. The State Aquarium has done a fantastic job caring for our friend and we will be highlighting his life there in the coming months but for now...when did you and your loved ones celebrate his birthday? We want to hear stories and see pictures in the comments.

The Coastal Bend is known for our great variety and numbers of birds. Wading birds, such as cranes, herons, egrets, spoonbills, and ibises are very visible due to their majestic size. They depend on water for food and shelter and often for nesting sites. Rather than swimming or diving like many water birds, wading birds wade into shallow water to catch their food. Their habitat includes places that people use for recreation and their livelihood, which can affect the birds.

Come hear Dr Dale Gawlik discuss wading birds in our local area this Thursday the 17th. See you at the Rockport Education Building at 7:00pm! 🏖👂🗣🧠

Earlier this month we hosted a public hearing for Texas Parks and Wildlife concerning Spotted Seatrout regulation proposals in response to last years major freeze event. We were happy to see so many in attendance working with our local management team!
