Sprinkles came in for boarding for the final week of her brother, Maverick’s board and train. This final week I’ll work on them training together, walking together, recall together. And I’m not quite done with him individually as well, we still need to go to the courthouse! He was happy to see her, her not so happy to be back in training and be with her brother! Someone likes being an only dog!!

Well it’s been a day for Dexter and his family and friends.

About seven months ago his toe was bothering him and so we took him in for x-rays. Both toes were suspicious on xray, but we amputated the one that from the outside, looked the worst and bothered him the most.

Last week he started licking the other toe.

This morning, his new x-ray showed conclusively that he had cancer in it.

Last week, he also started regurgitating his food sometimes, and sometimes he would just be laying down and a bunch of clear, foamy spit would come up.

So she thought while we were there, we should take x-rays of his abdomen and chest .

He has multiple lesions in his lungs, but his breathing has not yet been affected.

He has a huge tumor, which at first we thought was on his spleen, but after an ultrasound we learned it’s his liver and is likely pushing the stomach, causing the regurgitation.

Keep in mind, my boy is 12 years old. Because of that, we have elected not to do surgery on the liver. Probably the time for him to leave us will be when he’s not wanting to eat anymore or not being able to keep food down anymore.

I’m going to be feeding him three times a day to cut down on the bulk of the food going into his stomach, and 100% farmers dog fresh food which will be easier to digest.

He’s now on more supplements to help aid digestion and mushrooms to hopefully help slow down the rate in which the cancer grows. He is also on pain medication for his toe. If we can control the pain, we won’t have to amputate. If we amputated it, he would have no outside toes, which are his weight-bearing toes so walking could be difficult.

Basically, we’re just trying to keep him happy and comfortable and with us as long as possible while maintaining his dignity and his quality of life.

He’s the goodest boy and we’re just soaking up every minute we have with him. 🖤🤎

This is Skillet, he’s from Prescott and he packed his wonky ears for his board and train! Isn’t that cute!?! His ears are always like this! He’s about 2 hrs old and a mixed breed. He was adopted and his new owners found me on Bing after having him for 4 days! That was the first reason I was interested in working with them. They haven’t owned a dog in 40 years, and admitted they needed help and that was the second reason I was interested in working with them, they’re a clean slate! He was insecure. You guys know I’m a sucker for an insecure dog, there’s reason number three. Now here’s where it gets interesting. They were going to travel in June and have to put this guy at some random boarding facility. Ugh I couldn’t have that! I didn’t have an opening for a three week b/t for 6 months. But I had one week increments available with one week in between those increments. So I did something I’ve never done,,,,he’s booked for 3 NON consecutive weeks this month and next! He lives close by so pick ups and drop offs are easier and they have homework in between his time with me. He’s a great dog and really came out of his shell while they were waiting from April to now. I’m so excited to get them started off in such a great way and learning while he’s boarding.

Took Llylla downtown today and as soon as we walked back to the jeep it started raining and as soon as I got in the jeep it started hailing! I was freaking out because I don’t want hail damage on my girl AND the visibility sucked! Luckily I had parked close to a county employee parking garage so I pulled in there for safety! The hail was coming in the garage sideways and the roads were full of water! It was nuts! Gotta love a monsoon storm that comes out of nowhere!

This is 8 month old Maverick. He is the dog of a repeat client. This kid is so smart, has such a good attitude and today, being day 3, already started ecollar conditioning 🧠. His dog sister, Sprinkles, will be here in two weeks to join him for his final week!

Cruz was adopted on Thursday, 6/13/24! While he was here and by 5 months old, he learned all of his obedience, walked in a perfect heel, was e collar trained, learned how to hike off leash, hung out with 11 balanced dogs, went for a razor ride, and melted anyone’s heart that met him. He’s such a good boy and his new family is so lucky to have him and he’s lucky to have them! They are repeat clients of mine and Dave at Empowered K9. He’s loving his new home with kids and a grass back yard, and a female senior dog. They are keeping up with his training and I’ve been in contact every day. I’ll post updates on my stories! Thanks to Shelly at for letting me take him and giving him the best start at life! 🖤🖤. I love my CruzShip, BoozCruz, CruzAmerica and CruzControl. Yes he may have acquired some nick names 😉😂😂

All the dogs love it when I take them to the grass! And this was Cruz’s first field trip. He did so well! Walked in heel, held down/stays, went into his down on first command. New things to see today too: Fire hydrant (he was like what’s that!?!), people walking, cars going by, dogs walking…things that I don’t have in my neighborhood. He’s a little gem. He goes to his new home on Thursday! I will post more about that on adoption day.

On Monday, Oso could not do this down/stay when I took him to the courthouse because of his stress levels. He was a late bloomer to training and his confidence was lacking, so his owners and I decided that he should stay for another week. He will go home next Wednesday and so far this extra week is proving to be beneficial. 💚

This is Lylla! She’s a one year old Goldendoodle and is the dog of a repeat client 🙌🏼. She’s a wild child and brings all the puppy behaviors to her board and train! But she’s very very smart and has a great attitude and is already doing well on day two.

Last month we lost another great one. Flower🌺. She was also a that I trained for Shelly when she began severely resource guarding everything, including a little girl, garbage cans and the kitchen. I still use Flower🌺 as an example when I’m chatting to new clients about resource guarding. She overcame the behavior and also her fear and mistrust of humans with the help of training and a dedicated owner who trusted my recommendations and she lived a very fulfilling life full of love. Whenever her owner and I would chat about Flower🌺 we always used that emoji and that will always be her emoji. Her legacy lives on as she is able to help dogs in the future because of her story. You can read all about her on my website blog. We miss you sweet Flower🌺 and we will never forget you!! 🌺🌈🌺🌈

There are some newly broken hearts this evening. Mufasa was a and I think the very first foster/trainee that I did for Shelly. He started into kidney failure and was put to rest tonight. Moof was adopted by an amazing family in 2014 that loved him very much. Little Diego the chi and him were buds. Dexter and him were buds too. I love all of the dogs that come through here but Amy has always kept me up to date so it feels like losing a family member for me too. Rest easy sweet boy 😢❤️🌈

Little Cruz is a that Gronk’s owners transported for us!! He is being fostered by a past client of mine that is going on vacation, so when I’m done training him, Michael can keep it up! He’s a little sweetie that needs a confidence boost and he’s at the perfect place for that!

Sunday is back! Just kidding! This is her lookalike sister, Prudence. After Sunday’s training, my clients mother wanted Prudence trained. She has some insecurities, but is overall much more confident than Sunday, she counter surfs, needs her walk cleaned up and one of the things that drives them the most crazy is she puts her nose in your private parts…front and back lol
