On February 4, 2025, officers with the Poplarville Police Department responded to 1203 McGehee St., Lot 16, in Poplarville for a welfare check on a dog that appeared to be malnourished. Upon arrival, officers observed a gray and white pit bull mix in extremely poor condition. The dog was severely weak and barely able to stand. Additionally, officers noted that the kennel where the dog was housed was in unsanitary and inadequate conditions.

Attempts to make contact with the residents were unsuccessful at that time. As a result, the dog was seized and placed in the care of the Pearl River County SPCA. Through the course of the investigation, officers identified the occupants of the residence. On February 5, 2025, Sade Monique Jamison and Quinton Marcell Rogers were arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Cruelty to Animals.

Animal cruelty is not a victimless crime. Pet owners have a responsibility to provide proper care for their animals, including appropriate shelter, sufficient food and water, and necessary medical attention. Owning a pet is a commitment that comes with financial and ethical obligations. If you are unable to provide the necessary care, it is important to reconsider pet ownership.

The Poplarville Police Department conducted an investigation into a case of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, after a citizen's cat was fatally shot with a crossbow on January 30, 2025, within the city limits of Poplarville. Through the cooperation of community members, officers were able to swiftly identify a suspect. On February 4, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. As a result of the investigation, Justen Michael Gramling was arrested and charged with Felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty.

Chief Dorn extends his gratitude to the community members who generously contributed to a reward fund. These funds will be donated to the Pearl River County SPCA to support spaying and neutering services for over 30 feral cats.

We still need fosters! Let’s get these pups in a warmer environment for at least 3-4 nights. Who can help?! Show up Monday 💜🐾

📣 Urgent Cold Weather Foster Call! ❄️🐾

We still have about 40 outdoor adult dogs left.

Due to the overwhelming response, we will be opening the shelter office this Monday from 10 AM to 12 PM to get more dogs into foster homes during this cold weather. Let’s keep these pups safe and warm! 💕

Thanks to Erin Regan Animal Sanctuary and For Bullies Sake Bully Breed Rescue, we’ve secured 8 additional crates and will have even more available.

🔑 What you need to know:
• Please make sure you’ve completed our foster application ahead of time: http://prcspca.org/fostering/.
• We will not be answering phones or emails Monday, so please just complete the application and come by the shelter.

Your help can make all the difference! Let’s show these pups some love during this cold snap. 🐶❤️ Thank you!

Miss Chippy is a calico kitty who wandered into the Crosby Arboretum a few months ago, but needs a loving, forever home. She the SWEETEST and most well-tempered cat any of us have EVER met and was obviously someone’s pet.

She is gracious, friendly, and vocal, and quick to steal hearts, but she deserves a family. We’re concerned about her experiencing the winter here and whether she may become prey for a wild animal.

Miss Chippy is still young, perhaps one to two years, litter trained, and is getting her shots and being spayed this week. She has a temporary arrangement with a couple who have taken her in to help with her recovery period. She is an excellent lap warmer.

Please email [email protected] or call the Arboretum at 601-799-2311 if you would like to give her a home or know someone who might.
