DRA advises all pet lover's to be sure their pet has an id tag attached to it's collar. Many people think if their pet has a chip inserted it takes the place of a tag. It doesn't. The tag is the first line of defense and absolutely necessary. There are several problems with the chip; it takes action on the part of someone finding your dog or cat because they don't necessarily know there's a chip installed. This means someone finding a dog wandering around the streets has to take the dog somewhere to find out and then hope that the place chosen has the correct scanner. Not everyone will want to be bothered doing this. With the tag it's quick and doesn't necessitate any special handling.
