Good Monday read ☕

Older untrained horses, and by “older” this might mean as young as 5 or 6, don’t have nearly as good a chance of having a good future as those which someone can get on and ride.

I was just reading about breeders who sort of stockpile year after years’-worth of foals, but who don’t get them into training programs, and how those green horses can’t find homes.

If the green horse is only two or even three, there’s still plenty of time to get the youngster started, but at some point that lack of training becomes a big liability. This article made the point that the best thing that someone can do to be sure a young horse has a decent life is to get the baby well and quietly started.

The problem that we see so often, though, is the huge missing link, those people that some call “colt starters”, riders capable of dealing with young and often high spirited babies. There aren’t many of them, and the good ones are expensive.

The article went on to suggest that many breeders may be older, not riders themselves any more, and that unless they can afford training, they should get those youngsters sold as weanlings or yearlings, or should stop breeding.

Thoughts? As in when is a green horse to old to still be untrained?

What is boutique style? 😊

Boutique style means we are very small and personalized to each individual, due to that there's only limited space, but a very high value of what's offered.

Although limited space, there are other facilities in the area that specialize in giving lessons to all that can be recommended. Some of those facilities we have assisted with their lesson programming ideas anyway 😉
