We had so much fun at the Santa Monica Pupsgiving last weekend! We’d like to introduce you to our Turkey Trot Trick competition winner: Bear! He’s a 12 yr old sassy young man who loves butt scratches and will do anything for food. His lucky pawrents won a training session with us and are looking forward to work on Bear’s barking - he has a lot to say! 🐾🐻 Congratulations, Bear!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: You and your dog are amazing right now, just as you are.

Any goal you have to improve behavior—yours and theirs—is great AND you are both worthy of that same love and appreciation right now.

Teddy graduated yesterday! It was a nice pick me up for all of us to celebrate Teddy. He is always happy and really wants to do the right thing. We worked a lot on trying to figure out the best way to get him to settle during walks and at home - a lot of dogs struggle with the ability to be calm and “do nothing”! We also worked on walking nicely on leash and figuring out ways to help him not get too overwhelmed on his walks. His parents were so amazing, wanting what’s best for Teddy and not wanting to dampen his fun spirit. Teddy is still a young boy and hopefully they now have the tools (and, of course, still have us a resource) to help him settle in to adulthood. PLUS look at those eyes!! Talk about staring into your soul! , ,

Listen: trying to walk a dog who is pulling your arm off isn’t easy. We get it. At best, the walk isn’t enjoyable and at worst it’s straight up dangerous.

But in order to teach your dog to walk loosely on their leash, we have to take a few things into consideration:
1. Why are they pulling? (This will likely be a number of reasons in different environments.)
2. How can you be more successful?
3. Have you practiced this enough in low distraction environments?
4. Have they had enough exercise?

Before you get angry at your pup, try to see things from their perspective. Loose leash walking is a BIG ask from a dog considering their attention is being pulled in a million different directions by exciting sights, sounds, and smells AND it’s often their only opportunity to get out of the house.

So be patient with them.

This is Bentley. He’s working super hard on his reactivity troubles. So he went to the beach for his session because who doesn’t love a beautiful beach day. We are happy to report he didn’t have any reactivity the whole time! Way to go Bentley!

Play is a necessity for both dogs and people! Play means more than just fun; it’s a chance to burn off energy, keep their minds sharp, and develop social skills. Regular play can reduce anxiety, prevent boredom, and even promote better behavior. Play is a powerful way to relieve stress, boost mood, and stay active. It brings joy, laughter, and a chance to connect.

When we play with our dogs, it’s not just exercise; it’s a bonding moment that strengthens our relationship and creates happy memories. So, make time for play—your dog will thank you, and you’ll feel better too!

There’s nothing quite like letting your dog run wild and roll around in a pile of crisp, colorful leaves. Watching them dive in, tail wagging, and come up with leaves stuck in their fur is pure joy. 🐶🍁 It’s the little things that make autumn so special.

Let your pup enjoy the season, make a mess, and savor every playful moment. 🧡

An amazing graduation yesterday! Riley was having a really tough time with reactivity towards bikes, rollerblades , Razor scooters, kids, people who move strangely and some dogs. Jennifer has been working really hard with having Riley disengage and redirect her Focus away from all these scary things, with the added challenge of finding something that Riley really loves to eat. Colby cheese was the answer! What amazing strides they were able to accomplish! Four bikes in a row in her neighborhood flying by her and she was able to refocus on her mom! We up the ante for graduation and went to Lacy Park. What a joy, Riley definitely held it together with all that was going on and even with the biggest Great Dane walking by! Congratulations Jennifer and Riley. After the new year they would like to join obedience class. I look forward to having them.❤️👏👏

We want to hear your love story!

Was it love at first sight? Or maybe a slow burn? Maybe there was a moment that you looked at them and for the first time you realized how much you loved and appreciated them? Was it subtle? Or was it like fireworks?

Let’s talk body language! Dogs are talking all the time with their bodies. We just have to learn what they’re saying.
From our trainer, Amber:
“Bane’s mom and I talked a lot about reading body language. She brings him into the office almost everyday and Bane has been on high alert. We read through the Body Language book together and assessed, from videos she took, what we are seeing and the “why” behind the language. It was super helpful for her to notice the ears, mouth, tail, eyes…etc but most importantly, what we can do when we see this body language.”

Our Story

Customized dog training programs in Los Angeles, Seattle, and San Diego. Our approach to behavior modification is based on the science of learning using positive-reinforcement techniques.

Tully’s Training started as a dream of Mary Tully. She always knew she wanted to work with animals, and she has literally worked with them all! In the spring of 2013, Mary left her beloved world of zoos and aquariums to start Tully’s Training. In the beginning, it was just Mary doing the training and Alex managing the website. We had a group class in the park with one actual student and a bunch of Mary’s friends who were bribed to come to the class and make it look like we had a full roster! Soon, Sara came on the scene and together, Mary, Alex, and Sara have grown from one real client to, well, more than one! We are so proud of all the trainers who work with us and all of the clients who make it all possible. Since the beginning our mission has been simple. We want to teach people how to connect with their dogs. When families and dogs are connected with one another, the rest takes care of itself. It isn’t always easy! In fact, it’s never easy. But it is always worth it. We love our clients and we love their dogs. We hope to meet you soon :)
