After many years of of spending countless hours with dogs! One thing we have learned is that many people don't know that you should be trimming your dog's nails once a month. When you wait extended periods of time and the nails begin to grow out, several things can happen,
1) the nails tender the natural position of the foot which can cause issues and make it very uncomfortable for your friends to walk.
2) nails can quickly become curled and embedded if not Pierce the paw pads! We've seen it happen many times
3) you risk males getting snagged on blankets, furniture, carpet, etc. Which may result in a trip to the veterinarian
4) your dog will build up an intolerance to cutting the nails and see it as something to fear
5) the longer you wait to clip the nails, the quick /vein, which is a collection of nerves and blood vessels INSIDE the nail, begins to grow out into the nail. If you examine your dog's nails and they happen to be white, you will see a little pink coloration inside the nail. That is the quick!
What this means is that the nails cannot be cut any shorter than the quick. If they are then this can result in the dogs nail bleeding.
In an attempt to educate our community and encourage frequent nail trims- we have created a nail card!
In the month of January you can purchase 12 nail trims for your dog for the price of 10!
(Small dogs - $15 per nail trim - $180 per year dropped to $150!
Med dogs- $20 per nail trim $240 per year dropped to $200!
Large dogs - $25 per nail trim $300 per year dropped to $250)
If you are a household of more than one dog (in same size category) u may use the card on multiple dogs if they already come in for regular grooming!!
Ask us any questions u may have!
We hope this helps!
