Blue Mtn Winsome Willow - 05/20/2011 - 08/22/2024

With much heartbreak, we lost our Willow yesterday.
We are so sad and missing Willow but happy that she is out of her discomforts of late and back with Belle and Grace.

A better bird dog you could not find.

Sweet and spunky, with a killer nose and incredible bird sense,

Willow came into our life in 2011 from a Laurel Mountain Llewellins breeding of their Lady Bird to Lynnhill Ike Wind'Em.
Willow gave us the sweetest companionship as well as so many memories in the field.

With her "WooWoo" greeting when she was so happy to see you, we always smiled when we saw Willow. Winsome means delightful and that she was.

She loved to hunt and the sound of the neck collar bell or the sight of her orange safety vest being pulled out had her ready to go.

A great bird dog will give you a thousand beautiful days in the field and one heartbreaking one.

Willow, we love and miss you and will never forget the joy that you brought to us.

With the heaviest of hearts, I regret to tell you that Sugar's little pup has passed away yesterday.

Sugar's little pup gained weight on Day 2, but after that she slowly lost a few grams of weight daily. We tried to feed her bitch's replacement milk to get her strength up to nurse on her own, but she did not seem to get stronger with this helping hand.

In her only time as a mother, and with only one little pup, I can tell you that Sugar was the best mother we have ever seen. Sugar never wanted to leave her puppy and was very protective of her and carried the puppy to places she felt were safe. Sugar had skipped most eating in these last few days, we think because she didnt want to abandon her puppy for a moment.

When we went in for the last ultrasound check and emergency c-section on Wednesday,our vet advised that we do not try to breed Sugar again since she had lost pups since the first ultrasound and then c-section and because she never did go into labor on her own. . So we will be looking to spay Sugar in the coming months.

These last few days have been painful but also so beautiful to watch Sugar fiercely protect her pup as the little pup was slowly declining. Sugar did not have the experience of whelping, which kind of jump-starts the mothering instinct but it was all natural as we watched Sugar come out of anesthesia and jump right in to care for her one puppy, And Sugar never wanted to leave her pup, all the way to the very end. I've attached my last photo of Sugar with her puppy, you can see the puppy's nose between Sugar's legs. .

Dogs can teach us so much on an everyday basis. These last few days, I have watched Sugar show the most beautiful acts of mothering. We are so lucky to have our dogs.

Congratulations to our Sugar. While we were hoping for a full litter of pups, we are blessed to have one little girl. Name TBD

Dr. Rena Carlson, the president of the Schaumburg-based American Veterinary Medical Association, said most dogs and cats won’t be bothered by the eclipse. But crowds are another thing.

Our litter theme is "PBR World Champions". Our litter theme recognizes the recent World Champions of the Professional Bull Riders.

Please meet the "PBR World Champions" litter.

For our litters we choose a litter theme and give the pups temporary names so that we can get to know each pup by name for the 8 weeks that they are with us.

Puppy families are welcome to change their pups' litter name once they take their pup home.

Bird season coming right up !!

Bird hunting season is almost here! Before heading out on that first expedition, there are some simple training skills you can polish up on with your dog that will have a positive impact on your hunt.

⭐️𝐆𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is a skill applied during a loose lead or off-lead heel, as well as while working with you in the field. Practicing a joined up heel and changing directions at a distance pays big dividends in the field by getting your dog to think about where you are and about hunting with you.

⭐️𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is not just a good recall…it is also the foundation for a good retrieve! Practice recalls with your dog and work to ensure a heightened drive for retrieving bumpers or dummies to you before your hunts.

⭐️𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 is a critical element for staunch points, backing situations, when putting on hunting gear, and even during vet exams. It’s imperative to be able to effectively cue your pointing dog to stand still in any environment.

Practicing these three basic behaviors before going hunting this fall will help you to better handle your bird dog and keep your dog safer on hunts. This helps create a better experience for everyone in the field!

We reminisced about our many years of family vacations to the North Carolina Beaches and came up with a litter theme to inspire folks to check the many beautiful beaches on the NC coast.

Our litter theme is "NC Beaches". Families are welcome to change their pups name once they take them home.

Simply standing still can be one of the hardest things for our athletic bird dogs to do. Our stair-stepped dog training method builds a solid foundation, so our dogs are confident in what is being asked of them in training and while being steadied up on birds. They understand the cue to stand still and we help them develop proficiency at standing still in moments of high excitement (ie: birds!). This helps ensure they have good manners on birds and also helps us to maintain their safety in the field.
