From the moment she jumped into a volunteers car as a stray, Genny has shown her sparkling personality — it was assumed she would due well at county because her demeanor but unfortunately she caught an upper respiratory infection.

URIs are easily resolvable outside of the damp and stressful shelter environment, so she needs a foster or adopter to help her kick it!

As soon as she arrived at the shelter, Genny has shown what a sweetheart she is. With a soft, wiggly body, she allowed all handling and vaccinations with minimal restraint, eagerly seeking attention and loving every pet. In the shelter, she’s a superstar: easy to pull and return to her kennel, walks calmly on a loose leash, takes treats nicely, and ignores other dogs as she strolls by. Genny is always friendly, soliciting attention with her gentle demeanor.

Despite her incredible behavior and loving nature, Genny has been given a deadline due to a mild upper respiratory infection. She desperately needs someone to adopt her and give her the loving home she deserves. Be the hero Genny needs and bring this amazing girl home today!

Meet Happy Snaps, a dog with a story that's as unique as his name. Before we stepped in, Happy Snaps had spent over a year and a half at Pinal County Shelter, facing an uncertain future. Labeled "unadoptable" due to his mouthy behavior, he was on the brink of being euthanized. But we saw something special in him—a desire for attention and interaction, with no malicious intent behind his actions.

Upon rescuing Happy Snaps, we quickly discovered his two distinct modes: "Zoomie Mode" and "Defensive Tackle Mode." With the energy and agility that could rival any NFL star, Happy Snaps loves to engage in playful runs and can be a bit pushy when playing with other dogs. However, it's important to note that Happy Snaps is keenly responsive to corrections and backs off quickly, demonstrating his willingness to learn and adapt.

Happy Snaps's enthusiastic approach to life and interactions showcases his potential to be a loyal and loving companion. His previously misunderstood behavior reflects a high-spirited dog's need for engagement and activity. Recognizing this, we are committed to providing him with the training he requires to channel his energy positively.

We are currently seeking a dedicated foster home for Happy Snaps, one that will support him through his training journey. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative phase in Happy Snaps's life, helping him refine his manners and readiness for a forever home. The ideal foster family would be patient, understanding, and experienced in handling dogs with high energy levels. Training sessions with will be provided. Smudge was saved over 7 months ago from a life on the streets. It is time that she finds her forever home that she SO deserves. She is a young pup still with lots of playful energy. She would love a fenced in yard or someone who will take her on lots of hikes and walks. She will reward you in lots of kisses and affection. She would thrive in a calm household with a consistent routine and active lifestyle.

“I can’t believe I’ve already been fostering this sweet boy for a month!! While I could easily adopt him and have definitely thought about it, it would prevent me fostering more dogs in the future and saving even more lives. Every dog deserves a chance to find their forever family, and I want to give more dogs the same opportunity Sully has had. If you could please share we would really appreciate it!

A little more about Sully:
He is a 5 year old extremely chill, loving, gentle boy. He loves everyone he meets, even kids! He is dog friendly and would probably do best with a chiller dog that matches his laid back energy. He thinks he’s a big lap dog and his favorite thing in the world is cuddling and giving kisses. He’s house and crate trained and not at all destructive when he’s left loose in the house.

He is seriously the easiest foster dog I have ever had. All he wants is a soft place to rest his head and someone to give him lots of love and affection. Please share far and wide so we can find Sully the best family that he so deserves.🫶

Welcome Sully!!!❤️

Sully has been with us a few weeks now after spending over 3 months at county. He is 5 years old but walks like an old man due to some hip and elbow dysplasia, which we are treating. He doesn’t let this slow him down and loves going for (short) walks, stroller rides and car adventures! He even gets to go to work with his foster mom and is the best behaved boy.

He is incredibly sweet and affectionate and loves any and all people. He is very mellow and laid back, he’s happy to chill on his bed or crate and all he asks of you is some pets and cuddles🥰. He thinks he is a jumbo lap dog and love kissing and cuddling his humans!

He’s crate and house trained and is dog friendly. He would prefer pups who are a little less playful and a lot more chill to match his energy🫶. He is very gentle and would be ok with kids but may still their toys😂!

Aspen was one of 100 dogs living in a hoarding situation. She lived in squalor, fighting for survival, and had zero human interaction. We knew we couldn't leave her at the shelter when we saw her hidden in the back of her kennel. Aspen is a beautiful dog, but she is timid and fearful. Due to the lack of human interaction, she is terrified of people. However, she is learning to trust and is gaining confidence daily, thanks to the love and care of her foster mom.

We received a message from Pinal County about Ruckus. Ruckus is a very young Belgian Malinois mix with extreme barrier aggression. His barrier aggression made it nearly impossible for him to meet people safely and get adopted. Thousands of dogs are euthanized for this behavior because it makes it extremely difficult and unsafe to put these dogs up for adoption, even more so in a shelter environment.

We put a plan together to get Ruckus out of the shelter with the help of PhantomK9 training. David assessed Ruckus's behavior and has developed a training program tailored to his specific needs. It has only been one week since Ruckus arrived at David's, and he has already been able to improve Ruckus's confidence and gain his trust by teaching him appropriate ways to respond when someone approaches him through a barrier while gradually exposing him to different types of barriers in a controlled environment. His transformation so far is nothing short of amazing.

Ruckus is a true testament to how dogs with behavioral issues can be saved and rehabilitated with the proper training and support.

Welcome to the AFP family Skadi and Hannah! Skadi is a 10 month old heeler mix. She gets along with big and small dogs and this girl is a total love bug. Skadi is deaf and will work with a trainer so she’s set for success in her new home. Hannah is the cutest little girl. Playful, sweet and walks well on a leash. And those ears…perfection!! A big thank you to Tuba City Humane Society for getting these sweet girls to us. Tuba City Humane is an all-volunteer, foster-home-based rescue on the western Navajo Nation in & around Tuba City. Cairo is about 1 year old. We think he’s a Black Mouth Cur /Belgian Shepherd mix. He’s somewhat shy but Cairo is good with all dogs. We haven’t seen him around cats so that is unknown.
