Allergies can cause discomfort, leading to irritability, anxiety, and behavioral changes in dogs.
Look for signs like excessive scratching, red skin, or frequent ear infections.
Visiting a vet to treat allergies can improve both their health and behavior.
Addressing these issues is key to a happier, more relaxed pup!
We will ALWAYS want to see photos of your dog, and because today is National Dog Day it seems like the perfect day to share!
Drop a photo of your dog in the comments and make us smile!
Mayzie is a nervous dog who is nervous around strangers, but loves other dogs and her family dearly!
Mayzie tried to be the “fun police” and stop the family from playing when play got too rowdy. While this came from a place of caring, Mayzie’s interference was becoming concerning for her family and being the “fun police” with young children should never be a dog’s job.
Mayzie learned to trust Mary enough to participate in training, file her own nails on a Scratchpad (Etsy store), walk politely on leash, and most importantly, remain calmly in her bed when the family is playing!
Congratulations, Mayzie!
What is "socialization" for your puppy? It's more than you think it is!
Socialization is about gradually exposing your puppy to new experiences and positive interactions to build confidence.
It’s not about overwhelming them or just playdates. Ensure a balanced approach for a well-adjusted pup!

Fearful dogs respond in three ways:
Fight (reactivity)
Flight (hiding)
Fool Around (zoomies)
Understanding these can help you support your dog better.

Congratulations to our recent Teenage Manners graduates!
Teenaged dogs can be a handful, but the owners of Huckleberry, Marnie, and Lily made the most of this time by joining out Teenage Manners class. This class helps owners with the difficulties that are common among teenaged dogs: not listening, hyperactivity, and more!
Congratulations, and we can't wait to see you continue to grow!
Does your dog listen perfectly at home....
But as soon as you go anywhere, they act like they've never heard the word "sit" or walked on a leash a day in their life?
If this sounds like your dog, our Overcoming Distractions Class is for you!
This semi-private class allows you to focus on teaching your dog to listen consistently, no matter where you are! Participants should have graduated from a Manners Class or private lesson program before enrolling. If you are unsure if your dog qualifies, send us a message today.

Did you know that if you own a Doodle, Poodle, or other long haired dog, regular brushing is required?
In addition, most Doodles and Poodles need a full grooming ever 4-8 weeks. This means your dog will be getting groomed, clipped, bathed, and brushed... a lot!
In our upcoming class, Grooming & Vet Handling, we show you how to develop positive associations with grooming, bathing, and brushing for your dog. We can work on cooperative skills, such as staying still for brushing, as well as desensitizaton to tools like clippers and hair dryers.
Because all of our classes are Semi-Private, our curriculim is flexible. This allows us to focus on the skills your dog needs, rather than following a set curriculum!
Join us for our next class, which begins August 18th at 5:00pm!

With a new baby in the house, Izzy's family decided to work on some of her manners, especially around the baby!
Izzy learned how to be quieter around the baby, how to walk nicely on a leash by the stroller, and how to greet people politely! We are so proud of how well Izzy and Family did!
We would like to remind our clients that we will be closed August 11th - 14th. There will be no classes or private lessons during this time. We will respond to all emails and calls when we return to the office on the 15th. Thank you!
Take our Grooming and Handling Quiz, and see where your dog lands!
Dogs who scored a 4 to 8 could definitely benefit from our semi-private Grooming and Handling Class, and those who scored 8-10 would still see some improvement in their dog's comfort with grooming and handling!
This class is all about helping your dog be more comfortable with husbandry skills. These skills might include being bathed, brushed, trimmed, and more. Because of our uniquely small class size, we will adjust our curriculum to meet the needs of the students enrolled.
Help your dog be more comfortable and confident, and enroll in our upcoming class today!

Have you ever had experience with Foxtails?
Foxtails are plants with barbed ends. These plants can become embedded into your dog's skin, causing discomfort, infection, or serious health issues. Be alert to the areas you allow your dog to frolic in.
If foxtails are a concern, consider having your dog wear a hood such as the "outfox" hood to prevent foxtails from getting in the nose, ears, and eyes. These areas are where foxtails can cause serious damage to your dog.
Always check your dog for foxtails after walks in long grasses!
We may be nearing the end of July, but we still have some great classes for you!

Rufus is a precocious puppy with lots of energy! He had a problem with guarding food, like bully sticks. Just like any puppy, his claws and teeth were very sharp, and his senior owners realized quickly that their skin is thinner than it used to be.
We worked hard on "Drop It" and "Leave It", so that his owners could safely take away Rufus’s precious bully sticks when they need to.
Rufus learned how to stay "Off", with four paws on the floor, how to be gentle when taking treats, and how to walk politely on a leash so that his owners can safely walk him without tripping or falling!
If you are a senior with a puppy under 6 months of age, join us for our Semi-Private Seniors With Puppies Class, starting July 23rd. This class is held on Tuesdays at 1:15pm, so you can enjoy class without the hassle of rush hour traffic.

Fire season is (unfortunately) here.
What can you do to make sure you and your dog are ready for Fire Season?
1. Have a plan, and make sure that plan includes your dog!
2. Prepare a Go Bag for yourself, and one for your pets!
3. Train your dog now to make evacuating easier later.
Training is an especially important part of preparing your dog for a possible fire evacuation. Whether it is a house fire or a wildfire, having a dog who is confident in new environments and listen well will make an evacuation easier for you both.
If you need to brush up on your dog's manners or help your reactive or shy dog build their confidence, visit our website and join us for one of our semi-private group classes: https://www.marysangelsdogtraining.com/group-classes.html

Congratulations to Phoebe and her family on their graduation!
Phoebe loves everyone, but she was getting a little too excited to meet people. She was jumping on guests, and also grabbing onto people's arms in excitement. Her family worked hard on her impulse control and she is doing much better. She will likely be continuing her training in our Overcoming Distractions class to perfect her skills!
Great job Phoebe!
Did you know that we offer a Semi-Private Class, specifically for senior adults who have puppies under 6 months of age?
This class allows seniors to avoid traffic, meet other mature puppy owners, and get their puppy's manners and socialization off on the right paw!
What is a Semi-Private Class?
These are small-group classes. Our classes have between 2 and 4 students, meaning that there is always time for questions or extra help. This also allows us to have a more flexible curriculum, rather than following the same rigid curriculum for every class.
If you'd like to experience the difference a Semi-Private class makes, visit our website and enroll today:

As the weather gets warmer, it can be tempting to let your dog splash around and drink in puddles of water they find.
As tempting as that is, think twice before allowing your dog to drink water that has been sitting out. Leptospirosis can often be found in puddles or bowls of water left outside overnight. Always refill outdoor bowls with fresh water every day, and carry drinking water on hikes for your dog.
Leptospirosis can be fatal for dogs, even with treatment, so don't risk your dog-- always provide fresh water for them!

Do you know how to get good leash walking with your dog? The key is to build a solid foundation in a low distraction enviorment! Boomer would often get so exctied about walks that not only would she pull, but she often chewed her leash! Here, you can see the amazing progress her family is making!
We've all been there. You and your dog are enjoying a walk, but it's time to head home and your dog isn't ready to go! What do you do? The first option is to reward your dog for coming with you, but that's not always possible. Our second option, and one of Mary's favorite options, is to use a toy! This is especially great for puppies who can be extra excited at the end of a walk. Let your dog carry and play with a long toy as you walk home!
Look at this team go! If you know huskies, you know they LOVE running and pulling. This means we are training against their natural desires when we ask for nice leash manners. Here, you can see how well Abby is doing with her leash training. She is easily able to navigate throuhg a buys pet store. Key compnetents to successful leash training include building up to distracting locations, and good comminication. Notice how Abby is being told "this way" when a change of direction is made. This helps Abby stay on track and allows her to enjoy the enviorment without inadvertantly missing a turn. Walking together is a team effort, and we couldn't be more proud of how well this team is doing!
