Purpose

Mississippi Coast Doberman Rescue and Rehab (MCDRR) is a non-profit corporation and shall be operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code. Mississippi Coast Doberman Rescue and Rehab’s (MCDRR) purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate, repurpo

se, and rehome Doberman Pinschers in need who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. Our focus is to not just provide housing for Doberman Pinschers that are homeless, but to also take the time to learn each individual dog’s specific needs regarding health and training, so that the rescued dog may be successfully placed into a forever home, or repurposed towards another charitable cause. While MCDRR understands that not all Dobermans are prospective service animals, our goal will be to donate as many rescues as possible to other non-profit causes such as Search & Rescue (S&R) teams, Service Dogs for the disabled, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Companion for the Elderly. MCDRR plans to work in union with other animal welfare organizations in research as well as support, of the rescue and reduction of animal overpopulation. MCDRR believes that the Gulfport/Biloxi area is in great need of such an organization for the benefit of the general public, purebred dogs and Doberman Pinschers in particular. We will conduct activities and fundraisers, to support our local community and its other charitable organizations, in furtherance of the above purposes, and to otherwise preserve and protect the reputation of the Doberman Pinscher breed, doing all things possible to abolish the negative stereotypes associated with the breed. MCDRR will produce, publish, and distribute to the general public educational materials about responsible Doberman pinscher ownership such as the proper care, treatment, breeding, health, development and training of the breed. The Mississippi Coast Doberman Rescue and Rehab (MCDRR) plans to provide support while promoting study and research on the history, character, breeding, genetics and particular health problems of the Doberman Pinscher, and will assist the Doberman Pinscher Club (DPCA) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) in their mission to establish a National Data Base of resource materials about the Doberman Pinscher and the integrity of its genealogy and the breed at large. We will proactively advertise our resources to the animal welfare community, and to the general public, and offer them an alternative to euthanasia, abuse or abandonment, accepting any Doberman who is in need, regardless of age, health or behavior. This will be accomplished with multi-media marketing, sponsorships, and an annual project list to include the hosting/organization of several fundraising activities, and local events. MCDRR plans to provide wholesome, educational, family/pet friendly activities to its community that will raise awareness and funds in support of our efforts to rescue Doberman Pinschers at risk while promoting our success stories to the public in the hope of changing the general opinion of the breed itself. We will offer educational presentations in schools, libraries, and other public venues as well as utilizing social media channels and a website to provide facts, statistics, and other related data on causes, current efforts and solutions to eradicating the epidemic of abused and abandoned dogs, specifically the Doberman. Our programs will include seizure, housing, feeding, training medical attention including spay/neuter and micro-chipping, any costs that may incur to provide the best quality of life for the Dobermans we rescue, and rehabilitate. We will consult with a certified K-9 handler as to the training requirements of each dog upon intake and again before placement. There will be an application process to qualify potential adoptive families and each family will be required to submit to an initial general questionnaire, in home interview, and any other questioning/investigating deemed necessary by the board to complete the adoption, including a rehoming fee which will be used to cover the costs of executing the above projects. To maximize our impact on current efforts, we may seek to collaborate with other non-profit organizations which fall under the 501(c) (3) section of the internal revenue code and are operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. At times, per the discretion of the board of directors, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities which shall provide opportunities for involvement in said activities and programs in order to have a greater impact for change.
