Feline Behavior Solutions Do you want to prevent or resolve behavior issues with your cat? I help cats and their people enjoy happy and healthy lives through practical education.

Feline Behavior Solutions (FBS) provides services that result in happy, healthy relationships between cats and their people. I consult with clients via in-home visits (generally SW Washington and the Portland area) or scheduled phone/Skype conversations (available nation-wide), if appropriate. I have a number of types of consultations including 1) resolving cat behavior issues, 2) a "paws-on" trai

ning session with cats and their people, and 3) a home evaluation to ensure that your cat is happy and healthy, and to prevent behavior issues from starting as the result of common mistakes. These consultations come with customized plans and follow-up support. Additionally, I offer educational services to new and existing cat guardians in an effort to both reduce the likelihood of behavioral issues from developing, and to better address the needs of domestic cats. I offer classes for new cat guardians (i.e., "Cats 101"), creating the optimal litterbox setup to prevent problems, caring for senior cats, and other topics. Classes are in-person in a variety of settings. Finally, FBS supports local cat rescue organizations through partnerships that mutually benefit all parties involved.

Hi everyone! Please take a minute to check out this article on the dangers of avian bird flu to our cats.

If you have an indoor/outdoor cat, and avian bird flu has shown up in your area, it's best to keep your cat indoors for a while. You can ease the stress on them and you with a few simple tips:

1. More play - especially if your cat is a hunter - you want to replicate that hunting experience with a wand toy. Think about what this critter would do if it were in your living room trying to escape from your cat. Then make the lure at the end of the wand do those kinds of moves. This will help it feel like real hunting.

2. More mental enrichment - this doesn't have to take a lot of your time. Food puzzles, hiding treats around the room, Cat TV, even a little training session is great.

3. If your cat is vocalizing and wants to go out, wait for them to take a short break from that vocalizing. Then redirect them to an activity to help burn off that energy.

Here are two articles from our very good friends at Preventive Vet on mental enrichment and how to transition your outdoor cat to indoors.

The disease is carried by wild birds and if cats are infected it is often deadly.
