Did you know, that for each dog adopted, our average expense is about $350 MORE than our average adoption fee collected?

We depend on donations to provide the proper vet care many of our rescued cockers need. Some dogs come to us because their owners cannot afford their dogs' care due to job loss or divorce while some have lost their owner after a sudden unexpected death of their owner. In 2024 we are currently rescuing not only from Colorado, but also New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, KANSAS and MISSOURI (that's us folks!) That is a SEVEN state area, and we are able to do this because of volunteers and donors like YOU!

Precious came to RMCR just a few short weeks ago. A very loving Cocker girl in New Mexico, surrendered her to RMCR because she needs specialized surgery that is not available where she lived. Please help by DONATING TODAY>>https://tinyurl.com/5n8rymur

This beautiful, precious soul was rescued by a by loving Good Samaritan from a very bad situation in California, where her humans were not able to meet her needs. Precious spent most of her early life in a diaper, was never bathed or seldom and often untouched. Precious developed Osteoarthritis, Luxating Patellas, and Bilateral Hip Dysplasia that remained untreated. Her diseased hips have caused her so much pain and discomfort that her hind legs have atrophied and she cannot run or even walk like a normal dog. The Good Samaritan who rescued Precious, took her to several specialists for evaluations and learned there are no qualified vets in the area that could offer any successful treatment options.

At just 5.5 years old, Precious has been given the opportunity to come into rescue and get the love and care she wants and justly deserves. After arriving to RMCR, Precious has been evaluated by an Orthopedic Surgeon, an Ophthalmologist AND a Neurologist to determine treatment plans. All the RMCR volunteers want her to have the best life and will proceed with her total hip replacement (THR). This is estimated to cost approx $20k. RMCR is determined to provide the much needed surgery.

Precious has settled in quite well with her foster dad. She acts and behaves like any other Cocker, but her hind legs just do not cooperate. She often falls on her hiney or her hind legs will slip out from under her. She has adapted and just picks herself up and keeps going. She is in pain, even though she is on pain medication. She has lived with this so long, that she tolerates the wink limbs and pain. She came with a huge pile of toys and loves to play with them by picking them up and shaking them violently. She has two new girlfriends who live behind her. She walks with them twice a day. She is always happy to see them and their mom. The walking and socializing are good for her health and sprit.

This cute little girl is a 2 year old Cocker/Cavalier mix. According to our records, her birthday was December 1st. 🥳 Please wish Cindy the happiest of birthdays. Cindy was at one time a breeder's dog. Now, she gets to live the life of a dog. Sadly, her adoptive parent passed away and their family was not able to keep her.

Her foster mom describes her as one who gives the best hugs and loves to cuddle. She is such a good girl and just loves being around her foster mom. Cindy loves walks and car rides. Her foster mom tells us she is food motivated and that they are working on her manners.

Cindy was scheduled to be spayed, but the DVM detected a heart murmur and recommended to have it looked at by a specialist. The specialist reported the mummer is what is termed functional. All that means is her little heart sings a bit louder than those of other dogs. Cindy will have to wait for her spay as the went into heat and her surgery is put off until the beginning of 2025.

Look at that beautiful face and those crystal clear eyes. How can you not fall in love with this beautiful 9 years young lady. Nova has adapted well to her foster home since coming into rescue. She is very observant of what is going on around her. She loves being part of human activity because she prefers them over dogs. When she desires the loving touch of her foster mom, she will come to her and ask for it. That can often involve a belly rub! Nova prefers being the only dog in the house. She also loves her home to be quiet with mellow soft spoken adults. Her foster mom and dad tell us that Nova has a little bit of a racy side to her. She loves car rides.

Nova wasn't always like this. When she came to RMCR, it was obvious that she had suffered some trauma. It does not appear to be physical. Quick movements and loud noises will startle her. If she feels there is too much activity, she will retreat to her safe place at her foster's home. This beautiful creature is waiting for her soul mate.

Today is Giving Tuesday and RMCR would like to share a little bit about Casper. He is a member of our Compassionate Care Program which provides long term care for dogs with special needs. Casper came to RMCR 2 days before Christmas in 2023. He is a rather handsome 14 year old gentleman who has brought a lot of joy to his foster family. We are told he is a bit shy and prefers that humans move slowly around him. He is described as being sweet and is more trusting of women, but will warm up to men.

Casper loves being in the company of other dogs. He is learning from other dogs how to enjoy the gift of being a dog. Being around them gives him confidence as he will mimic their behavior. His dog friends have shown him that the touch of a human can be gentle and loving. He loves to have his belly rubbed.

When Casper arrived, he was vastly underweight. He has put on 5 lbs and as can be seen by the pictures, he looks to be quite a healthy weight. Good food and health care are essential for Casper. Part of his health care involves taking him for walks, which he really loves. He also loves napping.

When Casper was undergoing his intake exam, he was discovered to have a heart murmur. He's also gets the occasional ear infection. But, that just goes with being a Cocker Spaniel with floppy ears. 🥰

This is Mama Lady (aka formerly mama Tinker) posing with her here are Josie (aka formerly Gypsy) and Mr Darcy (aka formerly Fenian). We had a litter of four that all had Irish Gypsy names.

This gorgeous bunch or red heads were fostered by the Newberry family and several of the adoptions of this litter remained in the same family!

Check out this precious soul Miss TINSEL (a.k.a. Miss Tenpenny)! She is a gorgeous chocolate and tan Cocker girl with white chest markings who is only 9 months old! Tinsel was surrendered from a breeder closure in western Kansas to RMCR CO. She is a spitfire with a sassy and funny personality who has a significant head start on her house manners and training. Tinsel is extremely smart and learns so fast!

Tinsel was recently in to see the vet and she was sick with a virus and had to rest and recuperate before we could move forward with her spay surgery and updating her basic vetting. Tinsel's expenses approached $400 for her care. This included her spay surgery, medications needed, bloodwork, testing and microchip.
