Second Chances Farm 1st Anniversary Celebration
Yesterday, over 35 returning citizens joined the leadership team at Second Chances Farm to celebrate the first anniversary of moving into The Opportunity Center, our 47,500 sq. ft. building, in the Riverside community last September 4, 2019.
We asked Veronica Castaneda from Veronica's Kitchen to cater some delicious Mexican food for about 40 people. At this celebration, we were able to welcome 20 new returning citizens who are joining us Cohort 3 this coming Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
We invited our returning citizens to share their journey to Second Chances Farm. Please listen to these unedited videos of some of their journeys and it will give you an insight into why Second Chances Farm is making a different in the lives of formerly incarcerated citizens by creating a pathway to entrepreneurship.
We are thrilled to invite Chef Eric D. Aber as Executive Chef of Second Chances Farm for an initial period of 16 weeks. Eric will be working with Evan M Bartle and Todd Erickson to create recipes featuring our produce and herbs. In addition, he will be help us create a collection of YouTube videos showcasing recipes made by and for kids as part of our upcoming Eating Healthy series.
When you consider that on January 1, 2020, we didn't have a single returning citizens and Farm 1 didn't exist, it is truly a miracle that we survived COVID-19 and will 38 returning citizens working at The Opportunity Center over 7 days in a split shift schedule that will run from 8 am to 7 pm.
The returning citizens range in age from 70 to 23. 25 of them are male while 13 are females.The breakdown racially is 20 black, 16 white and 2 hispanic. A truly diverse group
