Join us and our friends Michelson Found Animals] at the next Better Neighbor Project Pet Wellness Day, on Saturday, August 20 from 10am-2pm at the East LA Civic Center! In partnership with LA County Supervisor , this event provides FREE resources to the community such as pet food, hygiene, and wellness services for pets. The Pet Food Pantry is open to the public with no appointment needed; however, appointments are required for all wellness and hygiene services. To make an appointment, visit the link in our bio.

This is an X-ray of a dog’s bent front leg. See that tiny white spec? That’s a microchip! It has migrated down the leg....far from where it was inserted, between the dog’s shoulders. This is actually quite common.....

When lost pets are scanned, the entire body SHOULD be scanned to catch any that have migrated. But, as an owner, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AT THEIR YEARLY VET EXAM, to ask for a quick scan to make sure that: (1) the chip is still working, (2) the location of the chip is good, and (3) that the chip info is correct.

Remember microchips save lives and reunite families with their pet.... just have it checked regularly!

Heat Stroke Alert for all "flat faced" dog breeds: This diagram says it all. Dogs thermoregulate by panting. Brachycephalic breeds, i.e. Bulldogs, Pekingese, Pugs, are at tremendous risk for heat stroke on even a warm day. Once they start panting, if they cannot cool down in a timely manner, they pant harder, they get hotter, and then they pant harder, and then they get hotter..... And then fluid fills their lungs and their brains herniate. Please play attention to your pets.
