Debbie's 4 Dogs Mission: To help first time or seasoned dog parents, my caring training is mostly for the humans. 🐾 If it doesn’t feel right to you, it’s not.
(55)

When it comes to connecting and building trust with your new puppy older dog or rescue, Debbie's 4 Dogs is not founded on the belief of "one size fits all" approach. Instead, my positive coaching philosophy instills that every one-of-a-kind dog should have a one-of-a-kind program. The one thing you will find is always the same for all is behavior modification or training done with kindness, caring

, respect and a true love for the dogs. Be their advocate always. Truly the training is for the humans

They can be–just ask an emergency doctor or veterinarian how many retractable leash injuries they see every year.

Remember to show your veterinarians and their team how much you love and appreciate them!!!❤️

You cannot put a price on the value of humane, practical training approaches. But the cost of employing somebody who harms your pet is unfathomable!

In Dr. Susan Friedman's words, behavior doesn't "flow like a fountain" without the need for outcomes. Behavior is "a tool to produce consequences." (This is backed by sixty-plus years of unequivocal scientific evidence!) A mountain of evidence from decades of research has demonstrated that positive reinforcement – i.e., rewards – makes relationships better and never worse.

Yes. So terrible.
I saw a small dog blinking blinking and thought oh noooo. Looked up to a man repeatedly pressing a shock collar, ugh. This in anticipation of what the dog might do or had done in the past. How awful.
Dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t.
Inducing pain into a life is quite cruel and inhumane.
💔

Jerking Your Dogs Leash
Many dog owners use a leash jerk to stop a dog barking, try to get a dogs attention, or to try and stop a dog pulling. In fact they may jerk a lead for a variety of reasons.
The anatomy of a dogs neck is remarkably similar to our own and one can only imagine how many times a human could take a leash jerk before needing to see a specialist.
Often when leashes are je**ed dogs are seen to lip lick and head turn, they may also start blinking heavily, a sign that the leash jerk has caused the dog to feel stressed, as let’s face it leash jerks cause discomfort. Studies have shown that cause laryngeal damage, whiplash and there’s a clear correlation between leash jerks and cervical damage. I’ve also spoken to a canine massage therapist who could feel rotation in the cervical vertebrae of a dog who’d been leash je**ed. Dogs don’t always respond to pain in the way we think they should. It’s not all about yelping and vocalising. A dog with neck pain may have a low head carriage and find it difficult to give eye contact or turn around.
Leash jerks can also ruin your training by poisoning your cues. For example if the handler is asking the dog for a sit and it doesn’t comply fast enough the handler may leash jerk the dog to try and get a faster result, however to the dog the word sit now means something unpleasant is going to happen.
Leash jerking may appear to work in stop some behaviours, however it doesn’t tell the dog what we do want from them or help them feel better about a situation they may be finding aversive.

CRUELTY CASES
According to Shelley-Grielen (2019), when cruelty cases appear across social media or in local news outlets, “it is not the everyday but the horrendous incidents that get media attention, e.g. the death of a dog by strangling during a nail trim in San Mateo, California (CBS SF Bay Area, 2016), a dog fatally mauled at a dog day care in Florida (Newby, 2017), multiple summer time deaths from heat stroke in a Florida grooming van (Birch, 2016), 23 dogs dying after being left overnight without cooling or ventilation in an Arizona boarding facility (Mitchell, 2016), abuses such as placing shock collars on dogs without owner knowledge at a Chicago day care to stop barking (Ludwig, 2017), or baked to death at a day care after falling unnoticed under a kiddie pool in South Carolina (Jacobs, 2016). After a covert video exposed a trainer at a Long Island, New York day care repeatedly jabbing a rod into a crated dog to stop him from growling was publicized (among other abusive practices at the site), New York State Senator Todd Kaminsky introduced a bill in late 2016 for licensing requirements for dog trainers.” (At the time of publishing, Kaminsky’s bill had not passed. Meanwhile, in June 2019, a bill sponsored by New Jersey Assembly Members Carol Murphy and Valerie Huttle requiring the licensure of dog trainers was introduced. At the time of publishing, that had not passed either.

Help me to help others like me for my birthday. ❤️🐾
It’s not always easy when you see things that you can’t unsee.
Sometimes it’s hard to accept that you can’t save every dog from a path which they themselves, if given a choice, would never pick.
Thank you so much.

Happy birthday to my beautiful and unique twins.
Stella is no longer with us here but I know that she hugs us all often and always looks out for her Fitzy boy. He didn’t like being left behind. No one ever does.
So here’s to these littermates who had a tough beginning and did their best. It’s all any one of us can ever do.
Fitzy, I’ve got you buddy.❤️
Pumpkin cake later. 🎉🥰🐾

What Sets PPG Apart?
The Pet Professional Guild is the only international membership association representing multiple disciplines that subscribes to the view that aversive methods, those that cause pain, fear, or harm, should not be used—or even deemed necessary—as part of a strategic training or behavior modification program. Nor should they be used by pet care professionals.

This means that PPG members agree to operate within our Guiding Principles.

PPG members are “Informed by Science, Guided by Empathy, Governed by Ethics”™

As an organization, we stand up for what we believe in and advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves. We support the management, training and care of pets humanely and ethically.

We promote ongoing advocacy initiatives and back up our positions with the latest scientific research and peer-reviewed studies.

As a proud PPG member, you are standing up for what you believe in and are surrounded by hundreds of your peers who support you in your endeavors.

I always educate clients on staying away from a head halter. I wrote my own paper on them years ago after researching in my Applied Animal Behavior classes.
This article by my fabulous colleague is so informative and should be read by anyone who considers using a head halter.

Hello friends and fam, dog lovers and human lovers,
November is my birthday month 🎉.
Please help me celebrate by donating to this cause close to my heart. ❤️🐾
Helping dog professionals who get down over situations that they see, who have a hard time when they realize that we can’t save or help them all, or for whatever reason they need an ear or a shoulder.
Many burn out. PAC is a place where they can go to get some help and feel heard.

Just back from the Arizona Humane Society where I took part in The Pet Professional Guild ‘s 4 day Summit!
Wish you all could have joined me.
Being surrounded by humans who truly want only the best for dogs and talk about welfare, care and kindness, giving dogs choices, letting them feel heard, is truly lovely.
Not “fixing “ dogs but helping their humans to better understand them and be their advocate is who I am!
❤️🐾

C’mon people, this dog is SWEET!!!!Waiting for his family. Just a nice boy whose family left him. 😞He’s waiting. ❤️
