Husky is a generic word for a dog that is predominantly and specifically used as a sled dog in the polar areas. It refers to a typical northern variety that is known for its cold endurance and overall hardiness.

Despite the fact that canines like the AKC/CKC-registered Alaskan Malamute do not include the word "Husky" in their official name, the term nevertheless applies to dogs of their breed. Modern racing huskies with arctic breed characteristics (also known as Alaskan huskies) are a constantly evolving crossbreed of the quickest dogs.

Huskies are still utilized in sled dog racing, adventure and trip tour organizations, and as a mode of transportation in remote areas.

Huskies are also kept as pets, and groups work to find new pet homes for retired racing and adventure-trekking dogs.

About the Siberian Husky
A thickly coated, compact sled dog of medium size and exceptional endurance, the Siberian Husky was intended to work in packs, pulling light loads at moderate speeds across huge ice stretches. Siberian people are courteous, meticulous, and respectful. The almond-shaped eyes of the graceful, medium-sized Siberian Husky can be brown or blue, or a combination of both, and communicate a discerning but pleasant and even mischievous attitude.

Siberians are recognized for their powerful but seemingly easy pace, which makes them quick and nimble-footed. They are notably smaller and lighter than their robust relative, the Alaskan Malamute, weighing no more than 60 pounds. They enjoy family life and get along with other dogs because they were born as pack dogs. Because of their inherent friendliness, Sibes make poor watchdogs. These are high-energy canines who can't stop chasing tiny animals, therefore ample running space is essential. Sibes are naturally clean, with little doggy odor, which is an appealing trait of the breed.

Siberian huskies are the quintessential northern dog. They are brilliant, but they are also stubborn and independent. They thrive in human company, but they require strong, compassionate training from the time they are puppies. These are dogs bred to run, and their desire to run may sometimes outweigh their affection for their guardians.
