In other news, meet Krista Justice, Fur on Fleek’s newest staff member! Krista is a groomer’s apprentice and training under the rest of us to eventually be able to groom dogs on her own. For now, she’s learned washing, drying, nail trims and desheds, but she’s moving on to tidy ups and shave downs soon! She adores dogs, especially the giants, so book with her today!!

Happy New Year friends!! A few announcements for the year 2024:

Last year we had to raise our prices due to the rising cost of supplies, increased shop rent, sharpening services, etc… Thank you to those who understand and didn’t complain. We were WAY undercharging before. We raised prices to match the average of what other similar businesses charge in our area. That being said, this year my pick up/drop off service will chance to $1 per mile instead of a flat fee. I’m losing money by offering this service at $10. Also, boarding rates have increased to $30 per night for one dog, $15 for each additional pet. My competitors charge this and the the dogs only get a couple of outside potty breaks and a small area where they are kennelled alone the rest of the time. I offer a home environment with unlimited play time and social interaction, so I feel as though it’s worth it. Please don’t think I’ve made these decisions out of greed. I have big plans for Fur on Fleek, and in order to bring them to fruition I must continue to make this business a profitable one. Happy New Year and blessings to all!!!

Merry Christmas, from Sparky!! (Groom by Geneva Reynolds)

We are officially OUT for the holidays! We groomed 77 dogs this week and we are BEAT! We'll be unplugging for the next few days to enjoy the holidays with our families, so please be patient! All calls, messages, and appointment requests will be answered on Tuesday when we're back in the shop!!

Santa Claus is coming to town for four lucky children who were blessed by you this Christmas! The final total for our Christmas fundraiser (including the few who haven’t picked up their stockings yet) was $620! I am so blessed to know so many people with big, open, loving hearts like yours. This is the last week to purchase a stocking for your dog! As of right now, we have raised $345 for a family with four children who would otherwise receive no gifts. We all know presents are not what Christmas is about, but being a miracle and experiencing the joy of giving most definitely is! If you ordered a stocking and haven't picked it up yet, they are at the shop! Please pick them up this week, as I will be surprising this family with their blessings this weekend! If you'd like to make a monetary donation or drop off a gift, you can do so at the shop during working hours! These kids have asked for the following items:

UPDATE: Fur on Fleek will be closed today (Thursday) due to the ongoing power outage. It looks like they’re still going to be working on it for awhile: I’m sorry everyone!!

Good morning puppy people! When I arrived at the shop today there were nine KU trucks and a police officer in the parking lot. I was told we would be without power for 3-4 hours. I’ve attempted to contact everyone who had appointments early this morning, but if I was unable to reach you and you didn’t receive my messages I am so sorry! We’ll be back in at 11 and hopefully the power will be back on!

Also, we’ve not chosen a family to bless with these donations yet because no one has nominated anyone! So please, if you know of a family struggling, message me privately about them so we can help them out a little this year! We’re looking for someone who is legitimately trying their best, someone who is fighting and working and doing what needs to be done to provide for their family but maybe just fell on some hard times and could use a hand. If we don’t choose a family, donations will be given to spay/neuter efforts to help control the pet overpopulation. Either way, it’s for a good cause!

We don’t groom many cats here at Fur on Fleek… but Jezebel was one of them. She had such a sweet nature, she never bit or scratched me a single time, which is uncommon for a cat being submerged in water lol. She lived quite a life, even had her leg amputated after being attacked by a Saint Bernard and lived to tell the tale. She passed away last night at 18 years old. We’ll miss you Jezzy.

I’ve been dreading making this post for awhile now. I first met Polly when she ran away from home a couple years ago and ended up at my house (dogs have always found their way to me). Polly and I spent the afternoon together while I tried to find her owner, who happened to live two streets up from me. When I returned her to her owners we started talking and when she found out I was a dog groomer she booked an appointment with me ❤️ Over the last couple of years I have taken care of Polly when her people were out of town and took care of her grooming every six weeks. I would stop by her house to pick her up on my way to work and she would throw the glass door open and just about bust my nose every time. She sure did love to go for a ride. Polly was diagnosed with inoperable cancer around six months ago, and every time I’ve groomed her since then I wondered if it was the last time. I just recieved the information that Polly had to be euthanized due to the advancing cancer in her body. She was only four years old. It never gets easier, losing one of my bonus dogs. Each and every one leaves its own unique place in my heart. I’ll never forget you Polly ❤️

Now taking orders for Christmas stockings!

As most of you know, every year Fur on Fleek raises funds to sponsor one family’s Christmas. You can choose the amount you wish to donate to the cause and we will put together a Christmas stocking for your dog with toys and treats totaling that amount. All the profits go toward the selected family!

That being said, we are also accepting nominations for families who need a little extra help this Christmas! Please message me privately to keep the families anonymous, explaining why you think this family could benefit most from our fundraiser and our staff will choose from those families. Today, as always, I am thankful for all of YOU for not only your business, but for the relationships that have grown out of that business. Almost every single person I know in Georgetown is through their dogs, and I have met so many wonderful people and made so many friends who I care about and who care about me. I am so blessed to have you all in my life ❤️
And this year I am thankful for Amber, the amazing groomer who could find work anywhere but chooses to work for me instead… and for Lacy, who began as a receptionist but has gone above and beyond doing so much more since day one so that I don’t even know what to call her anymore lol… these ladies make work so much more fun. I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving!!

The downside to getting to know and love so many dogs is that your heart breaks over and over again as they pass on. I’ve groomed Maya for a long time and she’s a frequent boarder at my house. She was a super anxious girl, always running back and forth like she was looking for something. She would ignore my dog door and reach up to the door handle to open it with her paw. I can’t count the times I came downstairs in the morning to find that she’d left the door wide open overnight. She loved to play fetch more than anything. She’d bring every single toy from the toy box, one by one, and literally throw it at you until you threw one. Once I threw a ball over and over again just to see how long she’d play before she got tired…. I tapped out before she did. Rest easy, sweet Maya. May there be never ending tennis balls at the bridge.
