🐾⚠️A muzzled dog is not a bad dog! ⚠️🐾
Muzzles are tools that help keep everyone safe, including your dog. Just because a dog is wearing a muzzle doesn’t necessarily mean they have bitten in the past.
Muzzle training can prevent unwanted behaviors like eating something harmful or to protect during vet visits or training sessions. It’s about being responsible and proactive, not labeling a dog as dangerous. Every dog deserves to be understood, respected, and loved—muzzle or not!

🐾 Meet the Breed Monday: Vizsla 🐾
🐶 Personality:
▪️ Vizslas are affectionate, energetic, and highly social dogs. They thrive on human companionship and are often described as “velcro dogs” because of their strong attachment to their owners.
🎾 Activity Level:
▪️ Vizslas are high-energy dogs that require plenty of exercise—at least 1-2 hours daily. They excel in activities like running, hiking, and retrieving.
🩺 Health:
▪️ Vizslas are generally healthy, but they can be prone to hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and certain eye conditions.
📓 Training:
▪️ Vizslas are intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train.
💇 Coat Care:
▪️ Vizslas have a short, smooth coat that requires minimal grooming. Regular brushing will keep their coat shiny, and they only need occasional baths.

🐾 8 Mistakes to Avoid When Introducing Two Dogs 🐾
Introducing your dog to a potential new friend can be exciting, but it’s crucial to navigate the process with care and attention. Here are 8 common mistakes to steer clear of:
1️⃣ Meeting in a non-neutral area:
Familiar environments can trigger territorial behavior. Choose a neutral location for introductions to minimize tension.
2️⃣ On-leash face-to-face meetings:
Humans don’t appreciate when random people come into our personal space, and it’s no surprise that many dogs don’t like this either. Tension from the leash can escalate when dogs feel restrained.
3️⃣ Ignoring body language:
Dogs communicate through their body language. Pay close attention to their cues to gauge their comfort levels and advocate for both dogs to avoid a stressful situation.
4️⃣ Forcing interactions:
Respect each dog’s pace and comfort level. Avoid forcing interactions by taking your time and listening to what both dogs are telling you. If either dog is uncomfortable, stop and try at a later time.
5️⃣ Letting them off-leash too soon:
Take a gradual approach and maintain control until trust is established. Both dogs should have a solid recall before trying this step.
6️⃣ Just letting them figure it out:
Dogs need guidance and structure during introductions. Don’t rely solely on instinct; be present and proactive.
7️⃣ Having toys or food out freely:
Competition over resources can trigger conflicts. Remove toys and food bowls during introductions to minimize any issues.
8️⃣ Leaving them unsupervised:
Supervision is key to ensure safety and intervene if tensions arise. Always be nearby to monitor their interactions, especially for new house guests. If you must step away, put the dogs in separate rooms or crates.
Remember, by taking your time to introduce the two dogs properly, you can help build trust and potentially foster a new friendship! 🐶💕

1️⃣ Water and Collapsible Bowl:

⛈️ Thunderstorm anxiety can affect many dogs, especially as they age. Here are 5 tips to help calm your dog during a thunderstorm:
1️⃣ Give a Safe Space:
▪️This can be a crate, closet, or any space as long as they feel comfortable.
2️⃣ Don’t Coddle Them:
▪️Remember the saying “what you pet, is what you get.” By petting them and telling them it will be okay, you could unintentionally be reinforcing the fearful behavior.
3️⃣ Start a Desensitization/Counterconditioning Program:
▪️Work with your dog as much as possible BEFORE a storm to help desensitize them.
4️⃣ Try Natural Remedies:
▪️You can try calming chews, CBD Oil, anxiety wraps, or Adaptil pheromone sprays to help sooth your dog.
5️⃣ Ask Your Vet:
▪️If your dog’s anxiety is severe, and they refuse food or try to harm themselves, talk to your vet about medication options.

Personally, I prefer not to have my dogs interact with other dogs on trails—not because of aggression or distrust, but because I prioritize their safety and the comfort of those we meet. It’s about mutual respect for everyone using the trail. If your dog isn’t always reliable in coming back to you when there are distractions, simply, they should not be off-leash. While many people I’ve encountered recently have been respectful of this, there are still those who allow their dogs too much freedom without considering the potential risks. 🥾 Let’s all work together to ensure that everyone—humans and dogs alike—can enjoy the outdoors safely. 🐕 Did you know that Bobbie, a Scotch Collie/English Shepherd mix became famous in the 1920s after traveling over 2,500 miles to return home after getting lost on a family trip. 🐾 In August 1923, Bobbie and his family took a road trip from their home in Oregon to visit family in Indiana. Once they were close to their destination, the family stopped at a gas station for a quick rest, and Bobbie hopped out of the car to stretch his legs, but was suddenly chased away by a local pack of dogs. 😥His family searched for him for days, and even put up fliers, but unfortunately they never found him and were forced to return home without their beloved dog. 🙌🏻 6 months later, in February 1924, one of the family’s daughters had stepped outside of the family owned cafe, and miraculously saw Bobbie walking down the main street. 🐶He was in rough shape, but against all odds, had made it home! ❤️His astonishing story of loyalty and perseverance earned him national fame, his nickname became Bobbie the Wonderdog! Here’s how to do it in 7 steps: 1️⃣ Start with a sit: ▪️Begin with your dog in a sitting position. 2️⃣ Use a treat: ▪️Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose and slowly lift it upwards, slightly out of reach. This should encourage your dog to lift their front paws off the ground. 3️⃣ Reward the effort: ▪️As soon as your dog starts to lift their paws off the ground, praise them and give them the treat. 4️⃣ Repeat and Increase Duration: ▪️Repeat this several times, gradually increasing the duration they hold the position. 5️⃣ Add a verbal cue: ▪️Introduce a verbal cue like ‘sit pretty’ or ‘beg’ as your dog lifts their paws. Say the cue just before they start the movement. 6️⃣ Introduce a Hand Signal and Fade the Lure: ▪️Turn the lure into a hand signal by gradually extending your hand farther from their nose to prompt the behavior. 7️⃣ Practice makes perfect: ▪️Practice the ‘sit pretty’ command regularly, but keep sessions short to prevent fatigue. Before I became a trainer, I will never forget the panic when my untrained dog dashed off-leash and was gone for over an hour. 😱 Many owners are too quick to take their dogs off-leash without proper training. It is an exhilarating experience, but it’s a big responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Before you let your pup explore the world leash-free, here are 4 things you should consider. 1️⃣ Be Alert to On-Leash Dogs and Recall Yours When you encounter other dogs (especially if they are on-leash), it’s important to recall your dog and leash them up. This respects the space of the other dog, which may be reactive or not friendly. 2️⃣ Respect People’s Space and Comfort with Dogs Not everyone is comfortable with a strange dog approaching them, especially an off-leash one. Whenever you see other people, recall your dog and keep them close until you’ve passed. This is particularly important with children, who could get scared or knocked over. 3️⃣ Assess the Environment, and be mindful of your surroundings Wildlife, small animals, or livestock can entice even the most well-trained dogs. Ensure your dog always stays within eyesight to prevent accidents. 4️⃣ Understand and Abide by Local Leash Laws Familiarize yourself with local leash laws. These laws are in place for everyone’s safety. Never let your dog wander onto private property without permission. 🐾 If your dog cannot be recalled under high distraction, they should NOT be off-leash yet! 🐾 You will get there, but until you do, there is no shame in keeping them on leash until they are ready. Do you know about social learning? Dogs are highly observant animals and can learn a lot by watching other dogs and humans. It’s great for Walnut to observe my older dogs in situations like this. Social learning is an amazing way for our pets to develop skills and behaviors.
