Fun Fact Friday: Can Dogs Watch TV? 📺

Did you know dogs can watch TV—but not quite the same way we do? While their vision is limited to blues and yellows, they’re great at picking up fast movements, which makes modern HDTVs much more exciting for them than old-school screens!

Some dogs get super into shows with animals, while others couldn’t care less. It really depends on their personality!

🚫 Are you playing with your dog using a laser pointer?

While it might seem like harmless fun, laser pointers can actually have a negative impact on your dog’s well-being. Here’s why you should think twice before using them:

1️⃣ Frustration & Anxiety

Dogs have an instinct to chase and catch. Chasing a laser pointer’s elusive red dot with no reward at the end can lead to frustration, anxiety, and even obsessive-compulsive behaviors.

2️⃣ No Closure

Unlike toys they can physically catch, the laser offers no “win.” This lack of closure can cause some dogs to become fixated on chasing shadows, reflections, or any moving light—even outside of playtime.

3️⃣ Eye Safety Risks

Accidental exposure to the laser beam, even briefly, can cause retinal damage or vision impairment for both your dog and you.

🔄 Healthier Alternatives

Instead of laser pointers, try engaging your dog in activities that satisfy their natural instincts and provide physical and mental stimulation. Great options include:

• A fun game of fetch
• Tug-of-war
• Flirt poles
• Puzzle toys for problem-solving

Your dog will thank you for providing play that’s both safe and fulfilling! 🐾

🐾 Meet the Breed: English Bulldog 🐾

🐶 Personality:

▪️ English Bulldogs are known for their affectionate and charming nature. They are loyal companions who thrive on attention and love to lounge with their families. Despite their serious expression, they have a fun-loving and goofy personality, making them a favorite among dog lovers.

🎾 Activity Level:

▪️ Bulldogs have a low to moderate activity level. Short walks and gentle play sessions are enough to keep them healthy and happy. They’re not built for intense exercise or hot weather, so keeping activities low-impact and in cooler conditions is best for their well-being.

🩺 Health:

▪️ English Bulldogs can be prone to certain health issues, including brachycephalic syndrome (breathing difficulties due to their flat face), hip dysplasia, and skin infections in their folds. Keeping them cool, maintaining a healthy weight, and routine vet visits are essential for their care.

📓 Training:

▪️ Bulldogs are intelligent but can be a bit stubborn, which requires patience and consistency during training. Early socialization is key to ensuring they grow into confident, well-behaved companions.

💇 Coat Care:

▪️ Bulldogs have a short, smooth coat that is easy to maintain with weekly brushing. Pay special attention to cleaning their facial wrinkles to prevent irritation or infection, and check their ears and paws regularly for cleanliness.

🐕 Ever wish your dog could stay calm and out of the way when guests arrive or during busy moments at home? Teaching the place command can be a total lifesaver!

Here’s how to get started:

1️⃣ Choose a designated spot like a dog cot, bed, or even a specific rug.

2️⃣ Use a treat to guide your dog to the spot. Once they step on it, ask them to lie down and reward them generously. You can also use a leash to guide them if needed.

3️⃣ Repeat several times, rewarding each time they go on the cot.

4️⃣ Once they are happily going to the spot, add the word “place” right before they step on the cot.

5️⃣ Gradually increase the time they stay there, rewarding calm behavior and releasing them with a specific cue like ‘okay’ or ‘free.’

Pro tip: Practice in low-distraction environments before using it in real-life situations, like when you’re answering the door or eating dinner. Soon, your dog will see their place as their safe and relaxing spot!

Have you started working on the place command yet? Share your progress or ask questions below!

🐾 Meet the Breed Monday: Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen 🐾

🐶 Personality:

▪️ Grand Basset Griffon Vendéens (GBGVs) are cheerful, outgoing, and independent. These hounds are known for their friendly and sociable nature, making them excellent companions for active families. They have a strong prey drive but are also affectionate and love to be part of the pack.

🎾 Activity Level:

▪️ GBGVs are energetic dogs who thrive on regular exercise. They love long walks, outdoor adventures, and games that engage their sense of smell, like scent tracking. Their hunting heritage means they enjoy being active and require plenty of mental and physical stimulation.

🩺 Health:

▪️ GBGVs are generally a healthy breed, but they can be prone to conditions such as ear infections, hip dysplasia, and some eye conditions. Routine vet visits, proper nutrition, and keeping their ears clean are important for their well-being.

📓 Training:

▪️ GBGVs are intelligent but can be stubborn and independent, so patience and consistency are key. Early training and socialization help channel their natural instincts and make them well-mannered companions.

💇 Coat Care:

▪️ GBGVs have a coarse, wiry coat that is easy to maintain with weekly brushing to remove dirt and loose hair. They shed minimally but may need occasional professional grooming. Regular attention to their ears is crucial to prevent infections.

Note that the fabulous colorful tail is not part of the standard GBGV 🤣

🚀🤯🙌✨This past week at The Blox Grad School has been nothing short of transformative.

I’m leaving with renewed focus, fresh ideas, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to build something extraordinary.

A huge thank you to for creating a community like no other and to the incredible coaches who poured their time, expertise, and passion into us. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by such badass people who support and encourage one another every step of the way.

I’m flying home with a full heart, a clearer vision, and some game-changing tools in my pocket. This experience reminded me that growth happens not only in the work we do but also in the connections we forge along the way.

The best is yet to come. Let’s build something amazing! 🚀💡

🐾 Happy Fun Fact Friday! 🐾

Do you know which organ is present in humans but absent in dogs?

An Appendix!

Instead, dogs have a similar organ called a cecum.

The Cecum helps break down tough plant parts like fiber, and also plays a role in water absorption and maintaining electrolyte balance! 💦
