Did you know.....cats can go into their first heat at 4 months of age?..cats can go into heat every 2 weeks?..our partnering clinics spay/neuter cats as young as 3 months of age?..shelters and rescues have long waiting lists of cats because of the overwhelming number of cats in our communities?

Time is of the essence - prevent more kittens from being born into a life of homelessness or neglect. There are not enough good homes for them all. Not even close.

Visit our website to read about our spay/neuter program options,
www.happypawshappyhomes.org Or send us a PM and we'll get you started.

Animal shelters are full. Rescue organizations are full. How can you help? Make sure you have a conversation with everyone you know about the importance of spay/neuter. Do it even if it's an awkward or uncomfortable conversation. There are not enough homes for all companion animals out there and we can each do our part to control pet overpopulation.
Already did that? Consider a donation to our spay/neuter program, which relies on donations to continue serving the public. You can use our Paypal Giving Fund link right now to make a donation of any size: paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1473858
We appreciate you!
Low-cost resources are available through Happy Paws Happy Homes' spay/neuter program: www.happypawshappyhomes.org
Thank you for your support of our program and for spreading the word about the importance of spay/neuter.

We're excited to be able to add a new option to our spay/neuter program offerings!
We're selling vouchers useable at All Pets Veterinary Wellness Clinic in State College for cats. These vouchers cover the cost of routine spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, first distemper vaccine and pain meds for a reduced cost off of what the clinic would normally charge. Vouchers are $90 for male cats and $120 for female cats.
If you are interested in an appointment with All Pets Veterinary Wellness Clinic, contact them at 814-308-8175. A voucher needs to be bought through Happy Paws Happy Homes at least 4 weeks in advance of an appointment. Send us a PM, email ([email protected]), or call 814-360-7383 for instructions on how to receive a voucher.
A huge thank you to All Pets for working with us on this special deal!
We'll be adding this option to our list of options on our website soon, www.happypawshappyhomes.org Please pass the word to a friend, relative, neighbor, co-worker about spay/neuter for dogs and cats in our area.

We receive calls almost daily from folks who are looking to rehome dogs, even though our organization does not have a physical facility to house animals or a foster network. Shelters and rescues everywhere are full, so often folks try to find homes for their dogs on their own. While we return these calls even though we can only crosspost altered animals needing rehoming, there is no 'quick fix' for this situation. Rehoming a dog responsibly takes time because responsible rehoming involves research (see #2 below).

If you need to rehome your dog, this is a great article about how to do so responsibly. We found 2 quotes extremely important:

#1 "Just like dogs shouldn’t be purchased or rescued on impulse, it’s important to approach rehoming with the same thought and care."
#2 "If you are placing your dog in a new home, be sure to do a home check, charge an adoption fee, and check references for the new family to ensure the home will be a good fit for your dog."

We hope these tips help someone out there who needs to rehome their dog.

If your life circumstances change and you're no longer able to care for your dog, there are ethical ways to find a new home for them.

Spay/Neuter has far more benefits than preventing unwanted litters.

Let our spay/neuter program help connect you and your pets with low-cost spay/neuter resources in our area (Blair/Huntingdon counties, PA).

Send us a PM to get started or check out our website, www.happypawshappyhomes.org.

Altering your pet has more benefits than just preventing reproducing.

Did you know that female animal can develop a deadly uterine infection called pyometra?

Pyometra is a serious and life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus.

Most pet parents are unable to afford the cost, but it's cheaper than an emergency vet bill or a lawsuit (and saves you money in the long run).

90% of pets are rehomed due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented.

Spaying/neutering saves lives!

Today is the day to do something great for your dog or cat!

- Make that spay/neuter appointment now! Check out our website for options and contact us to talk. Even if an appointment seems too far in the future for you, schedule it anyway (because appointments ARE scheduling several months out).
- Check your records and make sure your pet's vaccinations are current. Not current? Make an appointment.
- Is your pet's microchip registered and is that information accurate? Microchips only bring pets home if the information is up-to-date.

Do you know about Happy Paws Happy Homes' Fix-A-Bull Program for pit bulls? This low-cost spay/neuter initiative was started in 2010 to help combat the fact that only 1 in 500 pit bulls find a home for life and at least 25% of animal shelter populations consists of pit bulls. While we offer a spay/neuter program for all dogs and cats, pit bulls need extra help due to the statistics.

Have a pit bull? Check out the information about Fix-A-Bull on our website, www.happypawshappyhomes.org. Getting started is as easy as sending us a PM.

Don't have a pit bull? Share this information with someone who does.

Let's make our communities better places for companion animals. Together, we can combat the pet overpopulation crisis and responsibly care for the companion animals in our area.

Have a safe and happy Independence Day!

⚠️ More pets get lost on July 4th than any other day of the year. 🎆
Are you prepared for the holiday this Thursday? Some helpful tips:

🐾 Exercise your pets early in the day and make sure they have plenty to do before the festivities begin.
🐾 Ensure your pet is wearing proper ID and that their microchip information is up to date should they become lost.
🐾 Keep your pets inside in the air conditioning. Lower the blinds, close the windows. You can even turn a fan on or the television for some light background noise.

If your pet needs medication to help them cope with the stress of the noise and excitement, call us, we can help!
While we will be closed on Thursday, we are here during normal business hours today and tomorrow.

Shelters everywhere are struggling with high surrender rates and stray intakes.

Please ensure you are not contributing to the pet overpopulation crisis by spaying and neutering your pets. Even if you think you have found homes for all of the puppies and kittens of a litter, there are just not enough homes for all of the companion animals that exist in this world. This means some companion animals will not find homes. It's simple math.

Please check out the information about our spay/neuter program to see how we can help you. Our options include:
- transport days for pets (between Huntingdon, Tyrone and the Allegheny Spay and Neuter Clinic/Animal Welfare Council of the Alleghenies in Woodland)
- money-saving vouchers useable at select clinics in Centre and Clearfield Counties
- the Fix-A-Bull Program (for pit bulls)
