Today we said “farewell for now” to one of our THVS team, Jill. For the past 2 years, Jill has been an integral part of the day to day grind at THVS and quickly became family. Many of you have talked to Jill on the phone, seen her at spay/neuter drop off or met her at your farm for a therapeutic laser treatment.
Jill is embarking on an exciting new adventure into the human medicine field. We wish her the best of luck! We will miss her giggly presence in the office!

Great guesses everyone! The answer to how many spays and neuters for 2024 is…1137.
That was 592 spays and 545 neuters.
Thank you to everyone that brought cats this year!

As 2024 comes to a close, we have finished up our spay/neuter clinic days. We had 38 total surgery days.

Is your horse eating enough hay? Now that winter temperatures are here to stay, it is important to make sure that your horse has plenty of good quality hay to eat, especially overnight. The process of the hind gut digesting/fermenting forage generates a lot of heat and in turn keeps the horse warm. But if the horse runs out of hay in the middle of the night, by morning he may be a little cold and shivering until you throw him more hay. Consider using a nibble net or a hay box with a grate to slow down his hay intake so it lasts longer throughout the cold night.

Nellie says “Saratoga is a wrap!” Dr. Kate and Katelin (and of course Nellie) spent a few days in Saratoga Springs NY attending the 2024 NAEP Saratoga Equine Practitioners Conference learning about current research and the up and coming approaches to gastric ulcers, musculoskeletal issues, hoof asymmetry, sleep deprivation and much more. Everyone’s brains are tired 😃

Pennsylvania now has an interactive map to track rabies cases! We try to do our part to prevent rabies through the vaccination of our pets and livestock but cases do still occur in unvaccinated domestic and wild animals.
