Pets have always been in my life and a part of my soul. Working from home since 2000 as a free-lancer in writing and advertising, I have the fortune of being free and flexible with my time. I began offering pet-sitting services to my neighbors. From referrals, my business grew to surrounding neighbors. After just a few years, it has become a full-time business! Ruby's Pet Retreat offers pet-sittin
g services to cats, dogs, and rabbits, and any other pet you may have as a companion, with the exception of snakes. I am fully trained in administering any medications your pet requires, including administering fluids and vaccinations. For cats or any other pets, such as bunnies, fish, etc., I will go to your home within a 5 to 10 mile radius from my home as many times per day as needed. While at your home, I will bring in your mail, pick up your newspaper, and water your plants, if needed. And, I will of course, scoop the litter box and replace litter, if needed. I ask that you leave your regular veterinary information and also emergency veterinary information. If your pet appears to become ill while you're away, I will contact you with symptoms shown and ask if you'd like for me to take them to the veterinarian for an exam or to the emergency veterinarian, if needed. Also, while you're away, I will send you updated information via email about how your furry one is doing. I will also take pictures and send them to you for your keepsake. Price range:
Dogs:
-Please message me for dog care in your home or dog-walking
Cats/Bunnies/Ferrets/Gerbils/Hamsters/Etc:
-$20 per day for one visit (at your home)
-$35 per day for two visits (at your home)
-$10 per each additional visit per day (at your
home)
If there are any special circumstances or requests regarding your pets that are not listed here, please just ask me! We're very flexible! I have an extensive list of excellent references on hand that I will send upon request. If you have any questions, whatsoever, please feel free to call or email. Please, everyone...I have adopted several senior dogs and they are just the best. Please open your heart and your home to Boss. He will be forever grateful...and, so will you.
💔 Senior Dog Struggling In The Shelter 💔
Boss is a 15-year-old Boxer/Black-Mouth Cur that came to us via our HERO Outreach Team.
Boss is dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and kid-friendly. But unfortunately, the national pet overpopulation crisis results in amazing dogs like Boss staying in the shelter too long due to the sheer number of pets in the system. Shelters nationwide are caring for 245,000 more companion animals than they did in 2022, according to the The Humane Society of the United States. Meaning more time in the shelter, an overall decline in the mental health of shelter pets, and more animals like Boss waiting for their forever home.
We are offering Boss' adopters six months of Hills Science Diet food, toys, treats, leash and harness that will go home with him free of charge.

Friends, Urbavore Urban Farm needs your help and support.
The City, in its infinite wisdom and due to the complaints of a few horrible neighbors (sound familiar?) are harassing Urbavore's companion business, Compost Collective KC. I know most of you are environmentally conscientious and know how important composting is as opposed to toxic landfills.
Urbavore is going in front of the BZA January 9th and are in need of notarized letters of support and if possible, physical supporters the day of the hearing at City Hall to SAVE THEIR LIVELYHOOD.
I am sick and tired of home-based small businesses being harassed just for EARNING A LIVING and PAYING TAXES all because of a few uptight as****es.
Please go to Urbavore Urban Farm page and/or website and find out how to support them, OFFICIALLY, in writing.
They are going through the exact same thing I did two years ago with vengeful neighbors and the City. These "neighbors" are harassing them, surveilling them, and harassing their customers. Nobody should have to live like this. I feel their pain, greatly.

Yes, in the illustration on the right, that is a person holding a hypodermic needle, preparing to euthanize the dogs who have been in the shelter the longest, the elderly dogs, and the ones who are health compromised. They are there through no fault of their own.

I had THE MOST FUN watching this trio for the last two and a half weeks! Oscar, Inky, and Henry. Oscar, the extraverted lover boy, Inky, the dark and handsome sweetie who eventually warmed up to me and purred, and Henry, who by the end of my visit, was getting closer and closer to me. I'm confident I can eventually earn his trust...I certainly hope so.

I had the pleasure of taking care of some of my regulars this past week, sans Maddie, who was with her humans.
But, Howard, Evie, and Sonja were a delight. Howard's my boyfriend. He greets me at the door each time I visit, follows me around while doing all of my tasks, and rolls over on his back for me to rub his tummy. He gets very jealous when I give attention to his housemates. So, I just have to give Howard a little extra attention and that is perfectly fine with me.

The Fourth of July week is always very busy with lots of furry friends. The last day of my visits is always sad. I hate saying goodbye, especially to sweet Dids. Until next time, sweetie!

Happy National Puppy Day! This is the most recent puppy in my care. Meet Georgia! Sweet Georgia Brown is what I call her or Georgia On My Mind. I've been caring for Georgia for three months starting when she was just 8 weeks old. She has grown so much! I go to her house several times per day to feed her, play with her, and walk her. She is a character! She LOVES sticks!!! We love you, Georgia!!! <3
Miss Pearl!
Meet Miss Pearl, one of my newest kitty clients! Pearl has had a very interesting life, traveling all over the world. I told her humans that her life story would make a great children's story. Pearl is advanced in years, but you would never know it. She gets around just fine. She does sleep a lot, but most kitties do. It's what they do! Both, Miss Pearl and her humans are simply delightful. I am grateful for the opportunity to care for her. Thank you so much! <3

What a whirlwind weekend! While The Retreat may not be permitted to care for dogs in our home any longer, it certainly didn't keep us from the kitties' homes over the Thanksgiving weekend! We were KRAZY FOR KITTIES! Let us begin with sweet Diddle, a.k.a "Dids." Dids loves to chat and butt heads with me. He also loves drinking from the faucet. Be sure to notice his beautiful azure eyes.

The Retreat needs your help!!!! Friends...my next door neighbor, out of pure spite, has reported Ruby's Pet Retreat to the Kansas City Zoning Commission claiming that this is a commercial boarding facility. You all know it is indeed, NOT a commercial boarding facility. I have recorded evidence below that proves his two beagles who bark, howl, and bay, are louder than my personal AND guest dogs combined. PLEASE...tomorrow, Thursday, August 19th at 1pm, there is a public hearing via Zoom where I am appealing and defending my pet-sitting services to the Board of Zoning Adjustment. Your vocal support is very much appreciated. To participate in this hearing, click on the link below and then click on "Participate in the August 19th Special Hearing." Or, you can view only via You Tube. In-home dog-sitting services are under attack and we need to hear from YOU so we can continue caring for your dogs in our homes and NOT in cold, unsupervised commercial boarding facilities and kennels.
