Andi is now a frequent visitor to the Retreat for day-sitting. She is an 11 year old Schnauzer mix who fits in just perfectly with my two small, senior doggies. She's like part of the family!

UPDATE! Lana has found a home!
Please read Lana's story below. I am posting for a friend of the owner.
I have adopted many adult and senior dogs in my lifetime. They are so wonderful. Lana will suffer if she has to go to a shelter.
Please give her a loving home. She is already grieving her loss. Yes, they DO grieve.

These fur babies spent time at the Retreat over the holidays...Trixie, one of our regulars, and new guest, Charli.
Charli and Trixie had lots of fun together, with Charli not being able to take her eyes of off Trixie.
Welcome, Charli! We can't wait to have you back!
And, I visited my regular kitties, Finnie and Taki, always a delight, and Noel, not pictured, as she is always elusive, .

It's been an interesting year at the Retreat. We are grateful that the zoning laws are now in our favor and that we are able to have doggies back with us. We have some returning and some new, and we welcome both.

Decent humans always win...remember that. Doing the right thing and being a good person is a winning combination, always.
It may not seem like that, but in the long run, you can look yourself in the mirror and know what's right.

We thank you so much for your patronage this past year.

From yesterday...

Can't let the day end without wishing everyone a Happy Festivus!

However, instead of donating to "The Human Fund, Money for People," we at The Retreat are asking that you donate to your FAVORITE ANIMAL CHARITY OF CHOICE this holiday season!

The Retreat's Favorites are:
-Chain of Hope-Kansas City local charity
-Pet Resource Center of Kansas City, formerly Spay/Neuter of KC,
also a local KC charity
-The Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislations, a.k.a. The Alliance or
MAAL, a non-profit lobbying group working to create animal
welfare laws throughout the state of Missouri and surrounding
areas.

Whatever you give is so appreciated, whether it's money, food, supplies, or time.

We encourage you to ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!

Also, if you DO donate to people charities, we at The Retreat feel very strongly about donating to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
And, I would be remiss not mentioning Kansas City's own Children's Mercy Hospital.

It's all about the voiceless and those who cannot help themselves...animals and children.

There are many commercial boarding facilities that separate dogs into groups of large, medium, and small.
That's not always a wise move.
Little Shiva loves playing with bigger dogs and they seem to love playing with him. Shiva can hold his own, that's for sure. Shiva loved playing with my beloved German Shepherd, Zafra, and vice-versa.
Shiva's human told me that before she discovered The Retreat, she had taken Shiva to a commercial boarding facility that separate the dogs as I described. She said that one day, she checked in on Shiva through video cameras and saw that Shiva was cornered by a pack of small dogs and nobody had gone to help Shiva for about 10 minutes. The next time she took Shiva there, which was the last time, she said that Shiva was shivering and resistant to go to the door. That experience traumatized him.
But, when Shiva comes to my house, he runs up to the front porch, tail wagging, paws on the glass storm door, excited to be here!
That is one of the greatest testimonials ever. And, it's not just Shiva.
Trixie does the same thing as have several dogs in the past.
Ruby's Pet Retreat is NOT a commercial boarding facility. We are a home-based pet-sitter; a home away from home for your dog-children.
Don't forget that I go to your house for your kitties!

Would you just look at this little sweetie pie???
Introducing Casper!
Casper is a new addition to the household of Lila and Lance below.
All three are varieties of the Sphinx breed of "hairless" kitties, although, they're not truly hairless, they just appear that way.
I've taken care of Lila and Lance before, Lila being the shy girl and Lance, the hilarious and lovey one.
Casper just joined the family recently. He is a kitten and was born deaf. He doesn't know he's deaf and does just fine with his new siblings. He is very vocal and plays a lot, just like any other kitten does. Watch for video later...
And, look at those blue eyes! They kind of remind me of Barbra Streisand's eyes. Don't they??? :-)
I just had the best time taking care of this little one. Who doesn't love a kitten????
