Last but not least, a cat carrier comes in handy when traveling with your cat.

I have tried them all. And there is not one that works for all cats and occasions.

Carriers come in all shapes, sizes and materials. From $20 to $200.

✅ If your cat is terrified of the carrier, you may want to try a different model and work on carrier training.

🚨 For many cats the carrier is a discriminative stimulus for bad things to happen. Just the sight or sound of a carrier coming out makes them disappear.

🐈‍⬛ In my experience, carrier training and desensitization and counter conditioning ONLY work if the cat does not have another bad experience at the vet once you invested all the time and effort. One bad experience at the vet can tank all your efforts with a new carrier.

🍁🍁Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂🍂

When it’s Thanksgiving Day, a winter storm is roling in and the injured cat you tried to trap for days finally goes into your trap at the crack of dawn.

I never trap without a plan or vet appointment. But in this case I didn’t want to take a chance Tinker doesn’t get help in time.

I don’t have a spare room left and my garage is not heated. I prepped the drop trap in my furnace room. He has a warm bed, food and water and is safe until tomorrow morning.

He climbed the big boy cat tree all on his own - no harness, security net or whiskers needed!

Using a litter that is dust free and non tracking can make all the difference.

Cats and owners appreciate litter that is dust free and doesn’t track everywhere. My favorite is the unscented version of CATITs pea husk litter.

😻😻 Alfie and Bert are the cutest. Gaining weight, getting comfortable and growing their hair back.

They look like twins. I am having a hard time keeping them apart. Today, I noticed a small but very important difference. One looks not like the other.

If you travel by car and have room in the playpen for food and water, use the “bowl in bowl” method to avoid spills.

Little Alfi still wants a bottle. And that’s what he gets. Not all kittens of a litter develop equally fast and learn at the same pace. It’s important to weigh them often and see if one needs more support during the weaning period.

If you are traveling by car, creating a safe and cozy place for your cat can make the trip less stressful.

One of my cats is terrified of the carrier. I use the playpen even for shorter trips.

The playpen has space for food, water and a small litter box.
You can add your cats favorite blanket and some toys.

Harness training may be a good option for you and your cat if you are planning a longer trip.

It definitely takes a while to get your cat used to a harness. Especially when they are older and have never worn a harness.

And there is a risk your cat may slip out of it. Practice in the safety of your home. Go slow and reward every single step. Don’t force it.
