When you see a dirty cat.
This is important information to know about why cats look dirty.

Cats can tolerate hunger for up to a week on average, but cannot go no more than 2-3 days without water.

Cats are usually very clean, they groom themselves several times a day. If you see a cat that does not look clean, it is DEHYDRATED and has been so for many days.

Their saliva glands are not functioning properly because they require moisture to groom their fur.

If you see a stray cat that looks dirty, DO NOT turn the other way or see it as disgusting, because it is suffering and probably hasn't had anything to eat or drink in a long time.

Find kindness in your heart to give it food and WATER. The life of a homeless animal is not an easy one. It lives in constant fear of other animals and humans, and it has never known the comfort of a soft bed or a restful night’s sleep.

Helping a less fortunate being is the opportunity for you to become a better person and to make this a better world.

PROTECT YOUR PETS FROM JULY 4th FIREWORKS!
• Keep pets safely confined indoors on July 4th and the days leading up to it when people may be inclined to set off fireworks.
• It’s best to leave your pets safely indoors, preferably with a radio or TV on at normal volume (too loud makes things worse) to dampen jarring noises. Pets usually kept outdoors should be brought inside as an extra measure of safety.
• Invest in a Thundershirt.
• Ensure your pet is wearing a collar and identification tag with current contact information so you can be reunited quickly if your pet does escape.
• Microchip your pet
• Never leave your pet in a parked car, even at night during a fireworks display.
• Stay Positive. Your pet takes cues from you!

The annual reminder that your pets may not want to drink city water in March.

No Ammonia in Water & Annual Flushing of Water Distribution System from March 1 to March 30

Raleigh Water will temporarily stop adding ammonia to its water treatment disinfecting process on March 1 at 10 a.m. The City will resume adding ammonia to the water treatment process on March 30 at 10 a.m.

To promote optimal disinfection throughout the water distribution system, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality recommends Raleigh Water and all other public water systems using chloramine disinfection switch to chlorine-only disinfection for a minimum of three (3) consecutive weeks every year. This switch to chlorine-only disinfection can produce a temporary “chlorine taste and odor” in some cases.

Raleigh Water also conducts flushing of the water distribution system during this period to hasten the change of chloramines to chlorine residual disinfectant. This flushing may cause some temporary discoloration in the water. The water is absolutely safe. However, as a precaution, customers may want to check to see if their water is discolored before laundering white clothes.

Raleigh Water conducts extensive water quality testing throughout the water distribution system to ensure our drinking water meets all State and Federal drinking water requirements. View this data.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of traveling to The Doghouse in Camden, SC to pick up this adorable gal and bring her to her new FURever home. Folks, let me tell you, she has hit the big time! From a stray on the streets to being adopted by the most wonderful FURever family a doggo could wish for!! It wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of Danny & Ron’s Rescue who pulled her from the shelter just in the nick of time.

It’s no surprise to many of you that and this particular rescue organization is near and dear to my heart. If you are looking for a new best friend or want to know more about Danny & Ron’s Rescue, watch their documentary or reach out to me. I’m always happy to help.

Welcome home, Sophie! Your Hoof and Paws Pet Care family already adores you too!!

Happy 30th Birthday Dottie!! 🥳🎉

For almost a decade I have cared for this sweet and silly gal alongside her humans and it has been a real honor. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is consulting and caring for my geriatric clients. I love customizing care for all life stages but the geriatric phase can be quite challenging for humans and pets alike. Grateful for clients who go above and beyond to cater to the special needs of aging fur kids.

Dot, you are well ❤️ by all of us! 🥰

In the coming months many people will be vacationing on the North Carolina beaches. If your plans include visiting Currituck County, take time to read this excellent article. The Corolla Wild Horses are beautiful to admire but we need to keep our distance from them. If you have friends who plan to vacation in that area, feel free to share this information with them also.
