COURTESY POST - This poor indoor kitty was just tossed outside. Unfortunately, he became homeless when his guardian went to rehab. He has taken refuge under a deck and he is being fed, but he needs a home. Especially with Halloween and winter approaching, his safety is a concern. Since we currently have no space in our foster homes, we are posting on behalf of a Good Samaritan. If you may be able to foster or adopt, send Allen Balfour Geiner a message or call 6142881660. If you cannot foster/adopt him, please share this post!

The kitty is located in Delaware County, and his name is Inky. He’s described as a sweet domestic short hair male that is about 6-7 years old. It’s reported that he is neutered, and he’s current on vaccines, and he has been treated for fleas. It’s said he approaches people with caution, which is likely due to his recent trauma of being displaced. We’re told Inky enjoys head scratches and will give small and distant head-butts. It seems he wants to be a companion kitty again and is looking for that person he can just do the “flop and role” for.

At first glance, did you notice them at all? No? Neither did we.

These community cat shelters were placed by colony caretakers in a busy, open area. The caretakers wanted to make sure that the shelters would blend into the environment as much as possible and not attract attention. To that end, they used donated white styrofoam boxes and painted them to blend into the environment. The volunteers carefully tucked them among the trees and brush and loaded them down with whatever they could find in the area so they wouldn't be noticeable and wouldn't blow away during a storm. They did a really good job, didn't they? We're sure those community cats really appreciate their efforts! 🐈🐈

When cats reach their senior years, it's recommended that you increase wellness visits from once a year to twice a year. It may seem expensive at first but keep in mind that it could make a difference in early detection of a problem.

Instead of focusing only on behaviors you don't like, be sure to acknowledge and reward all those good behaviors. Behavior that's rewarded stands a greater chance of being repeated.

COURTESY POST - Katie, Noah, and Simone were rescued by a Good Samaritan, and they are seeking adoptive homes! If interested in meeting/adopting Katie, Noah, and/or Simone, submit an application at https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to their rescuer. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected]. Please share this post to help them find forever homes!

Katie is a playful, quiet girl. She isn't shy, but very calm; she loved working the camera for her photo session! Don't let that calmness fool you, though -- she is also quite playful, often wrestling with her brother and sister and batting around her toys. Her plush, gray coat is just gorgeous.

Simone is the smallest of the trio. This little lap cat might seem a tiny bit shy at first, but she warms up very quickly once you start to pet her. Although little in comparison to her brother and sister, that doesn't stop her from joining in some play wrestling and fun with her siblings.

Noah is such a handsome boy, with his black tuxedo and prominent white whiskers! And what about those black toes on his front paw? He is the most outgoing of his litter; nothing fazes him. Noah is very loving and really enjoys being petted. He is super playful and one very curious kitten.

Katie, Noah, and Simone are currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area, and they are 2 months old. They will receive initial vaccinations and be tested for FIV/FeLV this week. Mom (Paris) has already tested negative. If not spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption, a certificate will be provided for the procedures to be performed by a local veterinarian.

COURTESY POST - Grumpy and Happy were hand-reared by a local veterinarian, and they are the last remaining kittens of the Seven Dwarves litter that are still seeking adoptive homes! If interested in meeting/adopting Grumpy and/or Happy, submit an application at https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to her. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected]. Please share this post to help them find forever homes!

Don't let Grumpy's name fool you; she is anything but that! Grumpy absolutely loves people. While she is very playful with her sister and other cats in the foster's household, she loves to be in a lap whether the person is watching tv, working on their computer, or just relaxing. She's a very sweet-natured, calm girl who adores being petted.

Happy’s favorite pastime is to carry around small felt or furry toys. She loves to leave the toys in her foster parents' dog's dish! She is very playful and reminds you of a little black panther. She is very energetic and doesn't know a stranger.

Grumpy and Happy have tested negative for FIV/FeLV. They are current on vaccinations, and they are scheduled to be spayed/microchipped soon. They are currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area, and they are about 4 months old now. They both get along well with the other kitties and dogs in the home.

COURTESY POST - Otter is still available for adoption! Some of her siblings have already been adopted, and she’s hoping to be next! Please share this post to help her find a home! If interested in meeting/adopting Otter, submit an application via https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to the Good Samaritan that rescued her. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected].

Otter has been told she somewhat resembles a French bulldog in the face; we're not sure how she feels about that! Otter is also a lap kitty and loves to doze off while being held! She's very smart and also laid back; while she enjoys playing with her brothers and sisters, she really adores being cuddled. Her foster mom thinks with a gradual introduction, she would acclimate well in a home with cats, dogs, and/or kids.

Otter is about 10 weeks old, and she and her siblings were found under a porch, along with their mother, Mustela. Otter and her siblings and mama are all currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area. Otter has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She is current on vaccinations, and if she isn’t spayed/microchipped prior to adoption, a certificate will be provided for the spay/microchip procedures with a local veterinarian.

COURTESY POST - Little Ermine hasn’t received any applications yet! His brother and sisters seem to be getting all of the attention. Please share this post to help him find a home! If interested in meeting/adopting Ermine, fill out an online adoption application at https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to the Good Samaritan that rescued him. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected].

Ermine is about 10 weeks old, and he and his siblings were found under a porch, along with their mother, Mustela. Ermine and his siblings and mama are all currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area. Ermine has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. He is current on vaccinations, and if he isn’t neutered/microchipped prior to adoption, a certificate will be provided for the neuter/microchip procedures with a local veterinarian.

Ermine is one of the smallest kittens of the litter, but he makes up for it with a big personality! He’s active and loves to wrestle with the other kittens, but he also enjoys being petted. Climbing up a leg to get into someone's lap and then falling asleep is a favorite activity. His foster mom thinks with a gradual introduction, he would acclimate well in a home with cats, dogs, and/or kids.

COURTESY POST - Paris was rescued by a good Samaritan, and she’s now seeking a forever home! If interested in meeting/adopting Paris, submit an application at https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to the rescuer. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected]. Please share this post to help her find a forever home!

Paris is a loving, young cat who just raised a litter of 3 kittens. Paris has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She’s current on vaccinations, and she’s scheduled to be spayed in the first week of October. She is currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area, and her age is estimated between 1-2 years. Upon meeting/seeing the resident dogs and cats in her foster home, she reacted well, and with gradual introductions, her foster mom thinks she would acclimate well in a home with dogs or other cats.

Paris is a very energetic girl, always on the move, until she spies an open lap! Then she loves to sit in your lap, or be with you to get petted. She can be very vocal, and she has the best purr. Paris loves to sit near a window and watch the world go by. This strikingly marked girl would love to be part of your family!

Unbelievable! After surviving this, she deserves the best home! It’s amazing to see how much better she already looks after just a week. It’s hard to understand how/why her condition reached this point. Remember, if you see something, say something! Animals have no voice, and you have to speak up for them!

COURTESY POST - Mustela has received zero applications! Please help by sharing this post so she can find a forever home! If interested in meeting/adopting Mustela, submit an application at https://www.forgotten4paws.com/adopt-adoptform and we will forward it to the rescuer. If you have any questions, send an email to [email protected].

Mustela is a loving, young lap cat who just raised a litter of 5 kittens. She is currently living in a foster home in the Columbus area. Her age is estimated between 1-2 years. She is very petite and should put on some weight now that her babies are weaned. For as tiny as she is, she is vocal and has the loudest purr. Mustela has lived a hard life and is now ready to be treated like the princess she is!

Mustela has tested negative for FIV/FeLV. She’s current on vaccinations, and she’s scheduled to be spayed around the middle of September. Upon meeting the resident dogs and cats in her foster home, Mustela was totally unfazed. Her foster mom thinks she would acclimate well in a home with cats, dogs, and/or kids.

Poor thing lost her paw, but she still managed to raise a litter of kittens. She and the kittens have finally been caught. Unfortunately, she isn’t highly adoptable. Due to her lack of socialization, Shady Owl Ranch is open to considering a barn home, but we’ll bet she could make progress with the right person as an indoor kitty. Sadly, there are so many risks for outdoor kitties, especially when they have a disadvantage like a missing limb. Hoping someone with patience and experience with ferals or semi-ferals sees this and is willing to give her a chance as an indoor kitty!

Chocolate contains two compounds—theobromine and caffeine—both of which are toxic to cats. Chocolate contains a higher amount of theobromine than caffeine. Theobromine poisoning is the primary concern at lower doses of chocolate ingestion, while both theobromine and caffeine poisoning can occur at higher doses.

Theobromine and caffeine poisoning target several major organ systems within a cat, including the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems.

Mild signs of chocolate poisoning in cats from theobromine are usually seen within a few hours, although the full extent of more severe signs may not appear until 12 hours after ingestion.

The caffeine in chocolate is usually absorbed within one hour, and at high enough doses can cause clinical signs to start within one to two hours.

Mild chocolate poisoning results in gastrointestinal symptoms and possible hyperactivity, while moderate chocolate poisoning in cats results in overstimulation of the cardiovascular system.

The type and severity of symptoms your cat may develop depends on the amount and type of chocolate that is ingested.
Severe poisoning in cats can cause overstimulation of the nervous system. Symptoms of chocolate poisoning can last from 24 to 96 hours depending on their severity.

Cats with pre-existing medical conditions may be at a higher risk for theobromine and caffeine poisoning. If your cat also ingests a chocolate wrapper, there’s a risk for foreign body obstruction.

Symptoms of Chocolate Poisoning in Cats
The type and severity of symptoms your cat may develop depends on the amount and type of chocolate that is ingested.
Cocoa powder and baker’s chocolate contain a much higher amount of theobromine, whereas milk chocolate and white chocolate contain a much lower amount, so the symptoms that may appear will likely differ even if the same amount is ingested.

Common symptoms a cat may experience after consuming chocolate include:
* Vomiting
* Diarrhea
* Hyperactivity or agitation
* Increased drinking and urination
* High heart rate
* Abnormal heart rhythm
* Difficulty walking
* Tremors
* Seizures
What To Do if Your Cat Ate Chocolate
Call your veterinarian or Pet Poison Helpline, a 24/7 animal poison control center, at 855-764-7661, as soon as you realize your cat has consumed chocolate.

Since there is no safe way to induce vomiting in cats at home, do not attempt this—just seek veterinary care immediately. If possible, bring any relevant packaging with you to the clinic.
As with all poisoning cases, early intervention is key to successful treatment. No matter how much chocolate your cat ate, even if a small amount, it’s better to be safe.

Treatment of Chocolate Poisoning in Cats
Depending on when your cat ingested the chocolate and the health of your pet, your veterinarian may try to induce vomiting to help remove the toxin from your cat’s system before it is absorbed.
The vet may also give activated charcoal to minimize absorption of any remaining toxin from the gastrointestinal tract.

Additional care includes fluid support and medications to treat your cat’s symptoms, such as sedation for agitation, as well as medication to manage any heart rate and rhythm abnormalities. If your cat develops symptoms, home treatment is often ineffective and veterinary care is needed.

To ensure your cat gets the proper treatment and observation they need, be prepared to have your cat stay in the hospital through the day, if it’s a mild case, and possibly for a few days in severe cases.

The good news is that with early treatment and effective management of symptoms, the prognosis for chocolate poisoning in cats is usually favorable, with no negative long-term effects.

Prevention of Chocolate Poisoning in Cats
Because chocolate is toxic to both cats and dogs, all sources of chocolate and their packaging should be kept in closed cabinets or the refrigerator if there are any pets in the home. You can also add pet locks to your cabinets if your cat has a knack for opening pantry doors.

Cats are especially adept at jumping high on top of furniture, so placing chocolate candy, baked goods, or other human favorites on countertops is generally not enough to keep kitties safe.

Always be sure to keep chocolate away from pets during major holiday seasons when it is abundant in the home, such as at Halloween, Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. Wrapping up chocolate as presents and placing them under the Christmas or Yule tree is a bad idea if there are pets at home, as is leaving out Easter baskets. Cats can easily rip and shred wrapping paper and ribbons to get to the chocolate, and ingestion of wrapping paper, ribbons, or Easter basket grass can present additional risks to your cat for a foreign body obstruction.

Making your home a chocolate-safe environment and taking swift action in case of ingestion are crucial steps to safeguard your cat’s well-being. Staying vigilant and keeping those sweet treats safely out of reach will help minimize the potential for pet poisoning.

Make the carrier less intimidating by not having it be exclusively associated with veterinary visits. Leave the carrier out all the time so it loses its fear factor. If you use a kennel-type carrier, line it with a towel, and leave it out as a cozy hideaway for your cat. Get some totally irresistible treats and periodically place a treat near the carrier. Every once in a while toss a treat closer and closer until you’re eventually placing the treat inside the carrier.

365 days and still waiting for his forever, meet Echo located in Ohio

Echo is a puppy mill survivor. In the early weeks of his life, the "breeder" found out he had a heart issue and that was that! While the breder tossed him aside for his "fault", it also punched his ticket to the safety of rescue.

After an echocardiogram, it was determined that Echo has Mild SAS. What is SAS you ask? It is a congenital (inherited) heart defect. It consists of abnormal tissue located just below the aortic valve that creates an obstruction the heart has to overcome to pump blood out to the body.

At this time he requires NO medications and the cardiologist believes he will live a normal life (barring no changes). Annually, he will need to have a cardiogram to check everything out. All dogs with SAS are at an increased risk for developing infections of their aortic valve (endocarditis) and should receive antibiotics when they have wounds or are undergoing surgery or dental procedures. Under the advisement of Echo's cardiologist, we had him neutered, earlier than normal. This was done to reduce risk to his heart while under anesthesia, as he ages surgery risks increase for dogs with Mild SAS. We are requesting the annual echocardiogram be provided to the NCA for research purposes for their on-going Health Challenge Study on heart issues in Newfies.

Echo is a typical puppy, always pushing the limits and getting himself into trouble. He will keep you in a cycle of smiles and "drop thats" that we all know and love about the puppy stage. He is crate trained and house trained. He loves humans of different ages and loves other dogs. Cats, you need to use caution with him, as he doesn't want to hurt them. He just loves a good chase... which brings us to chickens, he likes to make them fly. His foster is currently working on his leash manners. Echo has tried to chase a few cars on his walk but does very good when redirected. This guy is the best kind of blank slate! He has not had a life of not being loved and cared for, he is just waiting to be your best friend.

If you think Echo is your guy please apply below. We will be happy to answer any questions you have about Mild SAS. Don't let this scare you from finding the perfect dog in Echo.

As always please share you never know who might be looking. We adopt anywhere in the United States and Canada. If approved you must come to the location the dog is at for pickup .
