Joseph is helping the director of Hilton Head Humane work today! This cutie pie has been our office dog for a few months now, and he is a born entertainer. He loves to play fetch and tries desperately to get our office cat, Dublin, to be his buddy. We just can"t get enough of little Joseph!

Dogs and the beach...two things that make sense. Our community in the Lowcountry is dog welcoming over dog friendly, with some local restaurants going as far as providing a canine menu! Dogs are invited to join their owners on the beach before 9am and after 5pm during the summer months. But it's safe to say that while there's fun to be had, we offer a word of caution when it comes to exposing your pet to salt water.
Over the weekend we saw at least two cases of severe salt toxicity. Most don't think of this as a danger to their pet but salt water can lead to extreme fluid imbalance promoting the perfect environment for dehydration.

When a dog ingests salt water, the excess salt draws water from the blood into the intestines, leading to diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and potentially injury to the kidneys.

It is imperative to seek out medical attention if you suspect your pet ingested salt water. In ideal cases, the water and electrolyte balance will be restored within 24-48 hours with hospitalization, IV fluid therapy and supportive medications.

By keeping an eye on your pets and having control over their investigative instincts, you can easily enjoy a wonderful evening or morning on the beach exploring with your pet! The look on their face when they see where they are is priceless.

If you find yourself needing veterinary intervention, a doctor and technicians are on staff 6pm-8am every weeknight and 12pm Saturday-8am Monday.

Missy has been looking out the window every day for her new family. She would do best as a "one and only" kitty. MIssy is almost 12 years old and is one of the only cats from the original, Tabby House.
Missy deserves to spend her senior years with a family of her own. Call us at 843 681 8686 for more information.

Charlotte is a wonderful place to visit and also a wonderful pup! This sweet, chocolate treat was transferred to HHHA when her owner could no longer care for her. She has been treated for Heartworm and is gradually increasing her exercise. We are happy to help this 6 year old find a place of her own. Charlotte weighs 86 pounds so she may "not" qualify to be a lap dog!!!
Call the Hilton Head Campus for more information! We can be reached at 843 681 8686

He's looking for a home...

Christian is 3 years old and lost his home through no fault of his own. He is loving and sweet. Christian would best be suited as a one and only cat, we would love for Christian to find a home soon as having a bunch of cats for roommates is not his favorite thing!
Please call us at 843 681 8686 for more information!!

Randy has those big brown eyes that all Beagles have! What a guy! Randy was found as a stray and sadly had Heartworm! His straying days are over and his H/W treatment has been completed. Randy is 6 years old and weighs 35 pounds. We cannot wait to see what the second half of his life is going to turn out like. Randy was treated for a skin condition but his hair is growing back nicely.

Call us at 843 681 8686 for more information on Randy!
